Hesekiel 31
1 Und im elften Jahr, im dritten Monat, am ersten des Monats, da erging das Wort Jahwes an mich folgendermaßen:
And it came to pass in the eleventh year, in the third month, on the first [day] of the month, the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
2 Menschensohn, sprich zum Pharao, dem Könige von Ägypten und zu seinem Gepränge: Wem gleichst du in deiner Größe?
Son of man, say to Pharao king of Egypt, and to his multitude; To whom hast thou compared thyself in thy haughtiness?
3 Fürwahr, eine Ceder stand auf dem Libanon, schön von Astwerk und schattenspendender Belaubung und hoch an Wuchs, und zwischen den Wolken war ihr Wipfel.
Behold, the Assyrian was a cypress in Libanus, and was fair in shoots, and high in stature: his top reached to the midst of the clouds.
4 Wasser hatte sie groß gemacht, die Flut sie hochgebracht; mit ihrer Strömung umzog sie rings die Stätte, wo jene gepflanzt war, und entsandte ihre Rinnsale zu allen Bäumen des Gefilds.
The water nourished him, the depth made him grow tall; she led her rivers round about his plants, and she sent forth her streams to all the trees of the field.
5 Daher überragte ihr Wuchs alle Bäume des Gefilds; es mehrten sich ihre Zweige, und es verlängerten sich ihre Äste von dem reichlichen Wasser.
Therefore was his stature exalted above all the trees of the field, and his branches spread far by the help of much water.
6 In ihren Zweigen nisteten allerlei Vögel des Himmels, und unter ihren Ästen gebaren alle Tiere des Feldes, und in ihrem Schatten wohnten alle die vielen Völker.
All the birds of the sky made their nests in his boughs, and under his branches all the wild beasts of the field bred; the whole multitude of nations dwelt under his shadow.
7 Und sie war schön in ihrer Größe, durch die Länge ihrer Zweige, denn ihre Wurzel war an reichlichem Wasser.
And he was fair in his height by reason of the multitude of his branches: for his roots were amidst much water.
8 Cedern verdunkelten sie nicht im Garten Gottes; Cypressen glichen ihr nicht mit ihren Zweigen. Platanen kamen ihr nicht gleich mit ihren Ästen; kein Baum im Garten Gottes glich ihr an Schönheit.
And such cypresses [as this] were in the paradise of God; and there were no pines like his shoots, and there were no firs like his branches: no tree in the paradise of God was like him in his beauty,
9 Schön hatte ich sie gemacht in der Fülle ihrer Zweige, und es beneideten sie alle Bäume Edens, die im Garten Gottes standen.
because of the multitude of his branches: and the trees of God's paradise of delight envied him.
10 Darum spricht der Herr Jahwe also: Weil sie hoch ward an Wuchs und ihren Wipfel zwischen Wolken streckte, und weil ihr Sinn hochfahrend war infolge ihres Hochwachsens,
Therefore thus saith the Lord; Because thou art grown great, and hast set thy top in the midst of the clouds, and I saw when he was exalted;
11 darum gab ich sie in die Gewalt eines Starken unter den Völkern, der sollte verfahren mit ihr nach seiner Bosheit, bis ich ihn vertrieben haben würde.
therefore I delivered him into the hands of the prince of the nations, and he wrought his destruction.
12 Und es fällten sie Fremde, grausamste Völker, und warfen sie hin. Auf die Berge und in alle Thäler fielen ihre Zweige, und ihre Äste lagen zerbrochen in allen Bachthälern des Landes, und alle Völker der Erde zogen fort aus ihrem Schatten und ließen sie liegen.
And ravaging strangers from the nations have destroyed him, and have cast him down upon the mountains: his branches fell in all the valleys, and his boughs were broken in every field of the land; and all the people of the nations are gone down from their shelter, and have laid him low.
13 Auf ihrem gefällten Stamme wohnten alle Vögel des Himmels, und an ihre Äste kam alles Getier des Feldes,
All the birds of the sky have settled on his fallen trunk, and all the wild beasts of the field came upon his boughs:
14 damit keinerlei Bäume am Wasser wieder hoch an Wuchs würden und ihren Wipfel zwischen die Wolken streckten, und ihre gewaltigen nicht stolz daständen in ihrer Höhe, alle Wasser trinkenden. Denn sie alle sind dem Tode preisgegeben, daß sie hinab müssen in die Unterwelt, inmitten der Menschenkinder, zu den in die Gruft Hinabgestiegenen!
in order that none of the trees by the water should exalt themselves by reason of their size: whereas they set their top in the midst of the clouds, yet they continued not in their high state in their place, all that drank water, all were consigned to death, to the depth of the earth, in the midst of the children of men, with them that go down to the pit.
15 So spricht der Herr Jahwe: An dem Tage, da sie hinabfuhr in die Unterwelt, da ließ ich trauern über sie die Flut und hielt ihre Strömung zurück, und gehemmt wurden die reichlichen Wasser; in Schwarz hüllte ich ihretwegen den Libanon, und alle Bäume des Feldes waren ihretwegen verschmachtet. Thus saith the Lord God; In the day wherein he went down to Hades, the deep mourned for him: and I stayed her floods, and restrained her abundance of water: and Libanus saddened for him, all the trees of the field fainted for him. (Sheol h7585)
16 Durch das Getöse ihres Falls machte ich die Völker erzittern, als ich sie in die Unterwelt hinabstieß zu den in die Gruft Hinabgestiegenen, und es trösteten sich in der Unterwelt alle Bäume Edens, die auserlesenen und besten des Libanon, alle Wasser trinkenden. (Sheol h7585)
At the sound of his fall the nations quaked, when I brought him down to Hades with them that go down to the pit: and all the trees of Delight comforted him in the heart, and the choice of [plants] of Libanus, all that drink water. (Sheol h7585)
17 Auch sie fuhren mit ihr hinab in die Unterwelt zu den vom Schwert Erschlagenen, die in ihrem Schatten gewohnt hatten, inmitten der Völker. (Sheol h7585)
For they went down to hell with him among the slain with the sword; and his seed, [even] they that dwelt under his shadow, perished in the midst of their life. (Sheol h7585)
18 Wem konntest du verglichen werden an Herrlichkeit und Größe unter den Bäumen Edens? Aber mit den Bäumen Edens wirst du hinabgestoßen werden in die Unterwelt; inmitten Unbeschnittener wirst du liegen bei den vom Schwert Erschlagenen: das ist der Pharao und all' sein Gepränge, ist der Spruch des Herrn Jahwe.
To whom art thou compared? descend, and be thou debased with the trees of paradise to the depth of the earth: thou shalt lie in the midst of the uncircumcised with them that are slain by the sword. Thus shall Pharao be, and the multitude of his host, saith the Lord God.
