5 Mose 31

1 Und Mose ging hin und redete folgende Worte zu dem ganzen Israel

Moses went and spoke these words to all Israel.

2 und sprach zu ihnen: Ich bin nun hundertundzwanzig Jahre alt und kann daher nicht mehr aus- und einziehen; auch hat mir Jahwe gesagt: Du sollst den Jordan da nicht mit überschreiten!

He said to them, “I am now one hundred twenty years old; I can no more go out and come in; Yahweh has said to me, 'You will not go over this Jordan.'

3 Jahwe, dein Gott, zieht selbst vor dir hinüber und wird selbst diese Völker vor dir vertilgen, so daß du in ihren Besitz eintreten kannst. Josua wird dein Anführer sein, wie Jahwe angeordnet hat.

Yahweh your God, he will go over before you; he will destroy these nations from before you, and you will dispossess them. Joshua, he will go over before you, as Yahweh has spoken.

4 Jahwe wird mit ihnen verfahren, wie er bei der Vernichtung der Amoriterkönige Sihon und Og und ihres Landes verfahren ist.

Yahweh will do to them as he did to Sihon and to Og, the kings of the Amorites, and to their land, which he destroyed.

5 Jahwe wird sie euch preisgeben, und ihr werdet mit ihnen genau nach dem Befehle verfahren, den ich euch gegeben habe.

Yahweh will give you victory over them when you meet them in battle, and you will do to them all that I commanded you.

6 Seid mutig und stark; fürchtet euch nicht und erschreckt nicht vor ihnen! Denn Jahwe, dein Gott, zieht selbst mit dir; er wird dich nicht loslassen, noch dich im Stiche lassen.

Be strong and of good courage, fear not, and do not be afraid of them; for Yahweh your God, he it is who goes with you; he will not fail you nor forsake you.”

7 Hierauf berief Mose Josua und sprach zu ihm in Gegenwart von ganz Israel: Sei mutig und stark! Denn du wirst dieses Volk in das Land bringen, dessen Verleihung an sie Jahwe ihren Vätern eidlich verheißen hat, und du wirst es auch unter sie verteilen.

Moses called to Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel, “Be strong and of good courage, for you will go with this people into the land that Yahweh has sworn to their ancestors to give them; you will cause them to inherit it.

8 Jahwe aber wird selbst vor dir herziehen; er wird mit dir sein, dich nicht loslassen, noch dich im Stiche lassen. Sei ohne Furcht und unverzagt!

Yahweh, he it is who goes before you; he will be with you; he will not fail you nor abandon you; do not be afraid, do not be discouraged.”

9 Und Mose schrieb dieses Gesetz nieder und übergab es den Priestern, den Söhnen Levis, die die Lade mit dem Gesetze Jahwes zu tragen hatten, und allen Vornehmsten Israels;

Moses wrote this law and gave it out to the priests, the sons of Levi, who carried the ark of the covenant of Yahweh; he also gave copies of it to all the elders of Israel.

10 und Mose gab ihnen folgende Anweisung dabei: Nach Ablauf von sieben Jahren, im Erlaßjahr, am Laubhüttenfeste,

Moses commanded them and said, “At the end of every seven years, at the time fixed for the cancellation of debts, during the Festival of Shelters,

11 wenn ganz Israel, um das Angesicht Jahwes, deines Gottes, zu sehen, an die Stätte kommt, die er erwählen wird, sollst du dieses Gesetz ganz Israel laut vorlesen.

when all Israel has come to appear before Yahweh your God in the place that he will choose for his sanctuary, you will read this law before all Israel in their hearing.

12 Versammle dazu das Volk, - die Männer, die Weiber und die Kinder, sowie die zu dir gehörenden Fremdlinge, die sich an deinen Wohnorten aufhalten, damit sie es hören und lernen, Jahwe, euren Gott, zu fürchten und alle Worte dieses Gesetzes wohl zu befolgen.

Assemble the people, the men, the women, and the little ones, and your foreigner who is within your city gates, so that they may hear and learn, and so that they may honor Yahweh your God and keep all the words of this law.

13 Und diejenigen von ihren Kindern, die es noch nicht kennen gelernt haben, sollen es hören, damit sie lernen, Jahwe, euren Gott, zu fürchten während der ganzen Zeit, die ihr in dem Lande lebt, in das ihr über den Jordan hinüberzieht, um es in Besitz zu nehmen.

Do this so that their children, who have not known, may hear and learn to honor Yahweh your God, as long as you live in the land that you are going over the Jordan to possess.”

14 Jahwe aber sprach zu Mose: Der Zeitpunkt deines Todes ist nun herbeigekommen; rufe Josua und tretet in das Offenbarungszelt, damit ich ihm meine Befehle geben kann! Da gingen Mose und Josua hin und traten in das Offenbarungszelt;

Yahweh said to Moses, “Look, the day is coming when you must die; call Joshua and present yourselves in the tent of meeting, so that I may give him a command.” Moses and Joshua went and presented themselves in the tent of meeting.

15 darauf erschien Jahwe im Zelt in einer Wolkensäule, und die Wolkensäule stand an der Thüre des Zeltes.

Yahweh appeared in the tent in a pillar of cloud; the pillar of cloud stood over the door of the tent.

16 Da sprach Jahwe zu Mose: Du wirst dich nun bald zu deinen Vorfahren legen; dann wird sich dieses Volk erheben und in seiner Mitte mit den ausländischen Göttern Abgötterei treiben in dem Land, in das es einzieht, und wird mich verlassen und den Bund mit mir, den ich mit ihm geschlossen habe, brechen.

Yahweh said to Moses, “Look, you will sleep with your fathers; this people will rise up and act like a prostitute going after the strange gods that are among them in the land where they are going. They will forsake me and break my covenant that I have made with them.

17 Zu jener Zeit aber wird mein Zorn über sie entbrennen, und werde ich sie im Stiche lassen und mein Angesicht vor ihnen verbergen, und es wird der Vertilgung anheimfallen, und viele Übel und Drangsale werden es treffen. Zu jener Zeit wird es dann sprechen: Offenbar haben mich diese Übel deshalb betroffen, weil mein Gott nicht mehr in meiner Mitte ist.

Then, on that day, my anger will be kindled against them and I will abandon them. I will hide my face from them and they will be devoured. Many disasters and troubles will find them so that they will say on that day, 'Have these disasters not come upon us because our God is not in our midst?'

18 Ich aber werde zu jener Zeit mein Angesicht gänzlich verbergen wegen all des Bösen, das es gethan hat, indem es sich anderen Göttern zuwandte.

I will surely hide my face from them on that day because of all the evil that they will have done, because they has turned to other gods.

19 So schreibt euch nun das nachfolgende Lied auf und lehre es die Israeliten; lege es ihnen in den Mund, damit mir dieses Lied zum Zeugen gegen die Israeliten diene.

Now therefore write this song for yourselves and teach it to the people of Israel. Put it in their mouths, so that this song may be a witness for me against the people of Israel.

20 Denn ich bringe sie in das Land, das ich ihren Vätern eidlich verheißen habe, das von Milch und Honig überfließt, und sie werden essen, satt und fett werden und sich dann anderen Göttern zuwenden und ihnen dienen; mich aber werden sie verschmähen und den Bund mit mir brechen.

For when I will have brought them into the land that I swore to give to their ancestors, a land flowing with milk and honey, and when they have eaten and become satisfied and fat, then they will turn to other gods and they will serve them and they will despise me and they will break my covenant.

21 Wenn sie dann von vielen Übeln und Drangsalen betroffen werden, soll dieses Lied - denn es wird unvergessen im Mund ihrer Nachkommen bleiben - vor ihnen Zeugnis ablegen; denn ich kenne ihre Gedanken wohl, mit denen sie schon heute umgehen, noch ehe ich sie in das Land gebracht habe, das ich ihren Vätern eidlich verheißen habe!

When many evils and troubles come upon this people, this song will testify before them as a witness (for it will not be forgotten from the mouths of their descendants). For I know the plans that they are forming today, even before I have brought them into the land that I promised them.”

22 Und Mose schrieb an jenem Tage das nachfolgende Lied nieder und lehrte es die Israeliten.

So Moses wrote this song the same day and taught it to the people of Israel.

23 Und er gab Josua, dem Sohne Nuns, seine Befehle, indem er sprach: Sei mutig und sei stark! Denn du wirst die Israeliten in das Land hineinführen, das ich ihnen eidlich verheißen habe, und ich werde mit dir sein.

Yahweh gave Joshua son of Nun a command and said, “Be strong and of good courage; for you will bring the people of Israel into the land that I swore to them, and I will be with you.”

24 Als Mose die Aufzeichnung der Worte dieses Gesetzes in ein Buch ganz zu Ende geführt hatte,

It happened that when Moses had finished writing the words of this law in a book,

25 gab Mose den Leviten, die die Lade mit dem Gesetze Jahwes zu tragen hatten, folgenden Befehl:

that he commanded the Levites who carried the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, and he said,

26 Nehmt dieses Gesetzbuch und legt es neben die Lade mit dem Gesetze Jahwes, eures Gottes, daß es dort als Zeuge gegen dich diene!

“Take this book of the law and put it by the side of the ark of the covenant of Yahweh your God, so that it may be there as a witness against you.

27 Denn ich kenne deine Widerspenstigkeit und deine Halsstarrigkeit wohl. Seid ihr doch schon jetzt, wo ich noch als Lebender unter euch weile, widerspenstig gegen Jahwe gewesen; wieviel mehr wird es der Fall sein nach meinem Tode!

For I know your rebellion and your stiff neck; look, while I am still alive with you even today, you have been rebellious against Yahweh; how much more after my death?

28 Versammelt zu mir alle Vornehmsten eurer Stämme und eure Amtleute, daß ich ihnen diese Worte laut verkündige und den Himmel und die Erde zu Zeugen gegen sie nehme.

Assemble to me all the elders of your tribes, and your officers, so that I may speak these words in their ears and call heaven and earth to witness against them.

29 Denn ich weiß: Nach meinem Tode werdet ihr so ganz verderbt handeln, daß ihr von dem Wege, den ich euch gewiesen habe, abgehen werdet; so wird euch dann in der Folgezeit das Unglück treffen, weil ihr thut, was Jahwe mißfällt, indem ihr ihn durch eure Handlungen erzürnt.

For I know that after my death you will utterly corrupt yourselves and turn aside out of the path that I have commanded you; disaster will come on you in the following days. This will happen because you will do what is evil in the sight of Yahweh, so as to provoke him to anger through the work of your hands.”

30 Hierauf sprach Mose laut vor dem ganzen versammelten Israel die Worte des nachfolgenden Liedes bis zu Ende:

Moses recited in the ears of all the assembly of Israel the words of this song until they were finished.
