5 Mose 28
1 Wenn du getreulich der Stimme Jahwes, deines Gottes, gehorchst und wohl darauf acht hast, alle seine Gebote, die ich dir heute gebe, zu halten, so wird dich Jahwe, dein Gott, hoch über alle Völker der Erde erheben,
And it shall be, if thou wilt, hearken, unto the voice of Yahweh thy God, to observe to do all his commandments which I am commanding thee to-day, then will Yahweh thy God set thee on high, above all the nations of the earth;
2 und es werden alle die nachfolgenden Segnungen über dich kommen und sich an dir verwirklichen, wenn du auf die Stimme Jahwes, deines Gottes, hörst:
and all these blessings shall come in upon thee, and reach thee, —because thou dost hearken unto the voice of Yahweh thy God: —
3 Gesegnet bist du in der Stadt und gesegnet auf dem Felde.
Blessed shalt, thou be in the city, —and blessed shalt thou be in the field:
4 Gesegnet ist deine Leibesfrucht und deine Feldfrucht und die Frucht deines Viehs, der Wurf deiner Rinder und die Tracht deiner Schafe.
Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground and the fruit of thy cattle, —the young of thy kine, and the ewes of thy flock:
5 Gesegnet ist dein Korb und deine Backschüssel.
Blessed, shall be thy basket and thy kneading-trough:
6 Gesegnet bist du, wenn du eingehst, und gesegnet bist du, wenn du ausgehst.
Blessed, shalt thou be when thou comest in, —and, blessed, shalt thou be when thou goest out:
7 Jahwe wird deine Feinde, die sich wider dich erheben, vor dir niederstrecken; auf einem Wege werden sie gegen dich zu Felde ziehen, aber auf sieben Wegen vor dir fliehen.
Yahweh will deliver thine enemies who rise up against thee, to be routed before thee, —one way, shall they come out against thee, and seven ways, shall they flee before thee:
8 Möge Jahwe dich vom Segen begleiten lassen in deinen Speichern und bei allem, was deine Hand unternimmt, und dich segnen in dem Lande, das dir Jahwe, dein Gott, verleiht!
Yahweh will command to be with thee the blessing, in thy storehouses and in all whereunto thou settest thy hand, —and will bless thee in the land which Yahweh thy God is giving unto thee:
9 Möge dich Jahwe zu einem heiligen Volke für sich herrichten, wie er dir geschworen hat, falls du die Gebote Jahwes, deines Gottes, halten und in seinen Wegen wandeln wirst,
Yahweh will confirm thee unto himself for a holy people, as he sware unto thee, —because thou dost keep the commandments of Yahweh thy God, and dost walk in his ways.
10 damit alle Völker der Erde sehen, daß du nach dem Namen Jahwes genannt bist, und sich vor dir fürchten!
And all the peoples of the earth shall see that, the name of Yahweh, hath been called upon thee, —and shall be afraid of thee.
11 Dann wird dir auch Jahwe durch die Frucht deines Leibes, die Frucht deines Viehs und die Frucht deines Landes Überfluß geben an Gütern in dem Lande, dessen Verleihung an dich Jahwe deinen Vätern eidlich verheißen hat.
And Yahweh will cause thee to abound in that which is good, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle and in the fruit of thy soil, —upon the soil which Yahweh sware unto thy fathers, to give unto thee:
12 Jahwe wird seine reiche Schatzkammer, den Himmel, für dich aufthun, um deinem Lande den Regen zu geben zu seiner Zeit und um alles Thun deiner Hand zu segnen, so daß du vielen Völkern wirst leihen können, ohne selbst je entlehnen zu müssen.
Yahweh will open unto thee his rich storehouse—the heavens, to give the rain of thy land in its season, and to bless every work of thy hand, so shalt thou lend unto many nations, but thou, shalt not borrow:
13 So wird dich Jahwe zum Haupte machen und nicht zum Schwanze, und du wirst immer nur höher steigen, und nie wird es mit dir abwärts gehen, wenn du den Geboten Jahwes, deines Gottes, die ich dir heute gebe, gehorsam sein wirst, daß du sie beobachtest und hältst
And Yahweh, will give thee, to be the head, and not the tail, and thou shalt be only above, and shalt not be beneath, —because thou dost hearken unto the commandments of Yahweh thy God, which I am commanding thee, to-day, to observe and to do;
14 und von allem, was ich euch heute gebiete, weder zur Rechten noch zur Linken abweichst, um anderen Göttern nachzufolgen und zu dienen.
and dost not turn side from any of the words which I am commanding you to-day, to the right hand or to the left, —to go after other gods, to serve them,
15 Wenn du aber der Forderung Jahwes, deines Gottes, nicht gehorchst, nach der du alle seine Gebote und Satzungen, die ich dir heute vorlege, genau befolgen sollst, so werden alle die nachfolgenden Flüche über dich kommen und sich an dir verwirklichen:
But it shall be, if thou do not hearken unto the voice of Yahweh thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I am commanding thee to-day, then shall come in upon thee all these curses and shall reach thee: —
16 Verflucht bist du in der Stadt und verflucht auf dem Felde.
Cursed, shalt thou be in the city, —and cursed, shalt thou be in the field:
17 Verflucht ist dein Korb und deine Backschüssel.
Cursed, shall be thy basket, and thy kneading-trough:
18 Verflucht ist die Frucht deines Leibes und die Frucht deines Feldes, der Wurf deiner Rinder und die Tracht deiner Schafe.
Cursed, shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground—the young of thy kine and the ewes of thy flock:
19 Verflucht bist du, wenn du eingehst, und verflucht bist du, wenn du ausgehst.
Cursed, shalt thou be, when thou comest in, —and, cursed, shalt thou be, when thou goest out:
20 Jahwe wird gegen dich entsenden den Fluch, die Bestürzung und die Verwünschung bei allen Geschäften, die deine Hand in Angriff nimmt, bis du wegen der Schlechtigkeit deiner Thaten, darum, daß du mich verlassen hast, schleunigst vertilgt und zu Grunde gerichtet bist.
Yahweh will send upon thee cursing, confusion and rebuke, in all whereunto thou settest thy hand that thou mayest do it, —until thou be destroyed and until thou perish quickly, because of the wickedness of thy doings, whereby thou hast forsaken me.
21 Jahwe wird machen, das sich die Pest an dich heftet, bis sie dich aus dem Lande ausgetilgt hat, in das du einziehst, um es in Besitz zu nehmen.
Yahweh will cause to cleave unto thee—the pestilence, —until he hath consumed thee from off the soil which thou art entering to possess.
22 Jahwe wird dich mit Schwindsucht, Fieber, Entzündung und Hitze, mit Trockenheit, Getreidebrand und Vergilbung schlagen; die sollen dich verfolgen, bis du zu Grunde gerichtet bist.
Yahweh, will smite thee, with consumption and with fever, and with inflammation and with violent heat and with the sword, and with blight and with mildew, —and they shall pursue thee, until thou perish.
23 Der Himmel über deinem Haupte soll Erz und der Boden unter dir Eisen sein.
And thy heavens which are over thy head shall become bronze, —and the earth which is under thee iron.
24 Jahwe wird den Regen für dein Land in Staub und Sand verwandeln; die sollen vom Himmel auf dich herabfallen, bis du zu Grunde gerichtet bist.
Yahweh will cause the rain of thy land to be powder and dust, —out of the heavens, shall it come down upon thee, until thou be destroyed.
25 Jahwe wird dich vor deinen Feinden zu Boden strecken; auf einem Wege wirst du gegen sie zu Felde ziehen, aber auf sieben Wegen vor ihnen fliehen. So wirst du für alle Königreiche der Erde zu einem Schreckbilde werden,
Yahweh will give thee up to be routed before thine enemies, one way, shalt thou go out against them, and, seven ways, shalt thou flee before them, —and thou shalt become a terror unto all the kingdoms of the earth.
26 und deine Leichname werden allen Vögeln des Himmels und den wilden Tieren zum Fraße dienen, und niemand wird sie wegscheuchen.
And thy dead body shall become food for every bird of the heavens, and for the beast of the earth, —with none to fright them away.
27 Jahwe wird dich schlagen mit dem ägyptischen Geschwür, mit Pestbeulen, Krätze und Grind, die unheilbar sind.
Yahweh, will smite thee, with the burning sores of Egypt and with the hemorrhoids, and with scab, and with itch, —of which thou canst not be healed.
28 Jahwe wird dich schlagen mit Wahnsinn und Blindheit und Geistesverwirrung.
Yahweh, will smite thee, with madness and with blindness, —and with terror of heart;
29 Du wirst am hellen Mittag herumtappen, wie der Blinde in der Dunkelheit herumtappt, und wirst bei deinen Unternehmungen kein Glück haben; du wirst immerfort nur unterdrückt und beraubt sein, ohne daß dir jemand zu Hilfe käme.
and thou shalt he groping about in noonday brightness, as the blind man gropeth in thick darkness, and thou shalt not make thy ways prosper, —but shalt be only oppressed and spoiled all the days with none to save.
30 Du verlobst dir ein Weib, aber ein anderer Mann beschläft sie; du baust ein Haus, wirst aber nicht darin wohnen; du pflanzest einen Weinberg, wirst aber seine Früchte nicht genießen.
A wife, shalt thou betroth, and, another man shall lie with her. A house, shalt thou build, and shalt not dwell therein, —A vineyard, shalt thou plant, and shalt not throw it open;
31 Dein Ochse wird vor deinen Augen geschlachtet, du aber bekommst nichts davon zu essen; dein Esel wird dir vor deinem Angesichte weggeraubt und kehrt nie mehr zu dir zurück; deine Schafe werden deinen Feinden ausgeliefert und niemand kommt dir zu Hilfe.
Thine ox slaughtered before thine eyes, and thou shalt not eat thereof, Thine ass stolen from before thee, and shall not be restored to thee, —Thy flock given to thine enemies, and thou shalt have none to save.
32 Deine Söhne und deine Töchter werden einem fremden Volk als Sklaven überliefert: deine Augen müssen es ansehen und verschmachten vor Sehnsucht nach ihnen, aber du bist machtlos dagegen.
Thy sons and thy daughters given to another people, thine eyes looking on, and failing for them all the day, thine own hand being powerless.
33 Die Frucht deines Landes und alles, was du mit saurer Arbeit erworben hast, wird ein Volk verzehren, das dir unbekannt ist, und du wirst immerfort nur unterdrückt und zerschlagen sein
The fruit of thy soil, and all thy toilsome produce, shall a people whom thou knowest not, eat up, —and thou shalt be only oppressed and crushed, all the days;
34 und wirst wahnsinnig werden beim Anblick dessen, was deine Augen sehen müssen.
so that thou shalt be mad, —for the sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see.
35 Jahwe schlägt dich an Knieen und Schenkeln mit unheilbaren, bösartigen Geschwüren, von der Fußsohle bis zum Scheitel.
Yahweh, will smite thee, with a grievous boil, upon the knees and upon the legs, of which thou canst not be healed, —from the sole of thy foot even unto the crown of thy head.
36 Jahwe wird dich und deinen König, den du über dich setzen wirst, zu einem Volke wegführen, das dir und deinen Vätern unbekannt war; dort wirst du andere Götter verehren, hölzerne und steinerne.
Yahweh will bring thee and thy king whom thou wilt set up over thee, unto a nation which thou hast not known, thou nor thy fathers, —and thou shalt serve there other gods of wood and of stone.
37 Du wirst ein Gegenstand des Entsetzens, des Spottes und Hohnes werden unter allen den Völkern, unter die Jahwe dich führen wird.
Thus shalt thou become a horror, a byword, and a mockery, among all the peoples whither Yahweh thy God will drive thee.
38 Vielen Samen führst du aufs Feld hinaus, aber wenig sammelst du ein; denn die Heuschrecken fressen es ab.
Much seed, shalt thou take out into the field, —and little, shalt thou gather in, for the locust shall consume it.
39 Weinberge wirst du pflanzen und bearbeiten, aber Wein hast du weder zu trinken noch einzukellern; denn der Wurm frißt ihn weg.
Vineyards, shalt thou plant, and dress, —but wine, shalt thou not drink, neither shalt thou gather the grapes, for the worm shall eat them.
40 Überall wirst du Ölbäume auf deinem Gebiete haben, aber mit Öl kannst du dich nicht salben, denn deine Oliven fallen ab.
Olive trees, shalt thou have in all thy bounds, —but with oil, shalt thou not anoint thyself, for thine olives, shall drop off.
41 Söhne und Töchter wirst du erzeugen, aber sie werden dir nicht angehören; denn sie wandern in Gefangenschaft.
Sons and daughters, shalt thou beget, and they shall not be thine, for they shall go into captivity.
42 Alle deine Bäume und deine Feldfrucht wird das Ungeziefer in Besitz nehmen.
All thy trees, and the fruit of thy ground, shall the grasshopper, devour.
43 Der Fremdling, der unter dir weilt, wird immer höher und höher über dich emporsteigen; mit dir aber wird es mehr und mehr abwärts gehen.
The sojourner who is in thy midst, shall mount up above thee higher and higher, —whereas, thou, shalt come down lower and lower:
44 Er wird dir leihen, du aber wirst ihm nichts zu leihen haben; er wird das Haupt, du aber wirst zum Schwanze werden.
he, shall lend to thee, but, thou, shalt not lend to him, —he, shall become head, and, thou, shalt become tail.
45 Alle diese Flüche werden über dich kommen, dich verfolgen und sich an dir verwirklichen, bis du hinweggetilgt bist, weil du der Stimme Jahwes, deines Gottes, nicht gehorcht, seine Gebote und Satzungen, die er dir auferlegte, nicht beobachtet hast,
Moreover, all these curses, shall come in upon thee, and pursue thee and overtake thee, until thou be destroyed, —because thou didst not hearken unto the voice of Yahweh thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he hath commanded thee;
46 und sie werden als Zeichen und Wunder dir und deinen Nachkommen ewiglich anhaften.
and they shall be upon thee, for a sign, and for a wonder, and upon thy seed, unto times age-abiding.
47 Weil du vor lauter Überfluß Jahwe, deinem Gotte, nicht mit Freuden und Herzenslust gedient hast,
Because thou servedst not Yahweh thy God, with rejoicing, and with gladness of heart, for abundance of all things,
48 so sollst du deinen Feinden, die Jahwe gegen dich entsendet, in Hunger und Durst, in Blöße und in äußerstem Mangel dienstbar sein, und er wird dir ein eisernes Joch auf den Hals legen bis er dich vertilgt hat.
therefore shalt thou serve thine enemies, whom Yahweh will send against thee, with hunger and with thirst and with nakedness, and with want of all things, —and he, will put a yoke of iron upon thy neck, until he hath destroyed thee.
49 Jahwe wird gegen dich von ferne, vom Ende der Erde her, ein Volk aufbieten, das wie ein Adler daherschwebt, ein Volk, dessen Sprache du nicht verstehst,
Yahweh will bring against thee a nation from afar, from the end of the earth, as darteth a bird of prey, —a nation whose tongue thou canst not understand;
50 ein Volk wilden Blickes, das keine Rücksicht kennt gegen den Greis und kein Erbarmen hat mit dem Knaben.
a nation of fierce countenance, —who wilt not respect an elder nor to the young, show favour;
51 Es verzehrt die Frucht deines Viehs und die Frucht deines Landes, bis du vernichtet bist; es läßt dir nichts übrig von Korn, Most und Öl, vom Wurf deiner Rinder und der Tracht deiner Schafe, bis es dich zu Grunde gerichtet hat.
then shall he eat the young of thy cattle and the fruit of thy ground until thou art destroyed, who will not leave for thee corn, new wine or oil, the young of thy kine, or the ewes of thy flock, —until he hath caused thee to perish.
52 Es belagert dich in allen deinen Wohnorten, bis überall in deinem Lande deine hohen und festen Mauern, auf die du dein Vertrauen setzest, eingestürzt sind; es belagert dich in allen deinen Wohnorten, überall in deinem Lande, das dir Jahwe, dein Gott, verleiht.
And he shall lay siege to thee in all thy gates, until thy high and fortified walls come down wherein thou wast trusting, in all thy land, —yea he will lay siege to thee in all thy gates, in all thy land which Yahweh thy God, hath given, unto thee.
53 In der Angst und Bedrängnis, in die dich dein Feind versetzt, wirst du deine Leibesfrucht verzehren, das Fleisch deiner Söhne und Töchter, die dir Jahwe, dein Gott, gegeben hat.
And thou wilt eat the fruit of thy body, the flesh of thy sons and of thy daughters, whom Yahweh thy God hath given unto thee—in the siege and in the straitness wherewith thine enemy will straiten thee.
54 Auch der weichlichste und am meisten verzärtelte unter dir wird sich mißgünstig zeigen gegen seinen Bruder und das Weib an seinem Busen und gegen die übrigen Kinder, die er noch übrig hat;
The man that is tender among you, and exceedingly delicate, his eye will be jealous of his brother and of the wife of his bosom, and of the remnant of his sons, whom be might leave behind;
55 keinem von ihnen giebt er etwas von dem Fleische seiner Kinder, das er verzehrt, weil ihm gar nichts anderes übrig geblieben ist, in der Angst und Bedrängnis, in die dich dein Feind in allen deinen Wohnorten versetzt.
so that he will not give to any one of them, of the flesh of his sons which he will eat, because he hath nothing at all left him, —in the siege and in the straitness wherewith thine enemy will straiten thee within all thy gates.
56 Die weichlichste und üppigste unter dir, die vor Verzärtelung und Weichlichkeit nie den Versuch gemacht hat, ihren Fuß auf die Erde zu setzen, auch sie wird sich mißgünstig zeigen gegen den Mann an ihrem Busen, gegen ihren Sohn oder ihre Tochter
The tender and delicate woman among you who hath never adventured the sole of her foot to set it upon the ground, through delicateness and through tenderness, her eye shall be jealous of the husband of her bosom, and of her own son, and of her own daughter;
57 und wird ihnen die Nachgeburt mißgönnen, die aus ihrem Schoße hervorgeht, und die Kinder, die sie zur Welt bringt; denn bei dem Mangel an allem wird sie dieselben insgeheim essen, in der Angst und Bedrängnis, in die dich dein Feind in deinen Wohnorten versetzt.
both as to her afterbirth that cometh forth from between her feet and as to her children which she shall bear, for she will eat them for want of all things secretly, —in the siege and in the straitness wherewith thine enemy will straiten thee within thine own gates.
58 Wenn du nicht acht darauf hast, alle Worte dieses Gesetzes, die in diesem Buche geschrieben stehen, zu befolgen, indem du diesen glorreichen und furchtbaren Namen, Jahwe, deinen Gott, fürchtest,
If thou wilt not take heed to do all the words of this law, which are written in this scroll, —to revere this glorious and reverend name, Yahweh thy God,
59 so verhängt Jahwe über dich und deine Nachkommen außerordentliche Plagen, gewaltige und anhaltende Plagen und bößartige und anhaltende Krankheiten
then will Yahweh make thy plagues wonderful, and the plagues of thy seed, —plagues great and lasting, and diseases grievous and lasting;
60 und bringt wieder über dich alle ägyptischen Seuchen, vor denen du Grauen empfindest, daß sie dir anhaften.
and he will bring back on thee all the sickness of Egypt, because of which thou wast afraid, —and they shall cleave unto thee;
61 Dazu wird Jahwe Krankheiten und Plagen aller Art, von denen in diesem Gesetzbuche nichts geschrieben steht, über dich kommen lassen, bis du vernichtet bist.
even every disease and, every plague, which are not written in this scroll of the law, will Yahweh bring up against thee, until thou art destroyed,
62 Statt daß ihr vorher den Sternen des Himmels an Menge gleichkamt, werdet ihr nur wenige Mann stark übrig bleiben, weil du der Stimme Jahwes, deines Gottes, nicht gehorcht hast.
And ye shall be left men few in number, whereas ye had become as the stars of the heavens for multitude, —because thou hast not hearkened unto the voice of Yahweh thy God.
63 Und wie Jahwe vorher Freude daran hatte, euch glücklich und zahlreich zu machen, so wird dann Jahwe Freude daran haben, euch zu Grunde zu richten und zu vertilgen, so daß ihr herausgerissen werdet aus dem Land, in das du einziehst, um es in Besitz zu nehmen.
And it shall come to pass that as Yahweh rejoiced over you to do you good and to multiply you, so, will Yahweh rejoice over you, to cause you to perish and to destroy you, —and ye shall be torn away, from off the soil, whither thou art going in to possess it;
64 Und zwar wird dich Jahwe unter alle Völker von einem Ende der Erde zum andern zerstreuen; dort wirst du andern Göttern dienen, die dir und deinen Vätern nicht bekannt waren; hölzernen und steinernen,
and Yahweh will scatter thee among all the peoples, from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth, —and thou wilt serve there other gods whom thou hast not known—thou nor thy fathers, —of wood and of stone.
65 und du wirst unter jenen Völkern keine Ruhe haben, noch wird es einen Ort geben, wo dein Fuß rasten kann. Vielmehr wird dir Jahwe daselbst ein bebendes Herz, vor Sehnsucht verschmachtende Augen und eine verzagte Seele geben.
And among those nations, shalt thou find no ease, neither shall there be a place of rest for the sole of thy foot, —but Yahweh will give unto thee there a trembling heart, and a failing of eyes and faintness of soul.
66 Dein Leben scheint dir wie an einem Faden vor dir hängend; du zitterst bei Tag und bei Nacht und glaubst dich niemals deines Lebens sicher.
And thy life will be hung up for thee in front, —and thou wilt be in dread by night and by day, and wilt not trust in thy life.
67 Am Morgen denkst du: wäre es doch erst Abend! und am Abend denkst du: wäre es doch erst Morgen! infolge der Angst, die dein Herz erfüllt, und bei dem Anblick dessen, was deine Augen sehen müssen.
In the morning, thou wilt say—Oh that it were evening! and in the evening, thou wilt say—Oh that it were morning! because of the dread of thy heart which thou wilt dread, and because of the sight of thine eyes which thou wilt see.
68 Jahwe wird dich zu Schiffe wieder nach Ägypten zurückbringen, auf dem Wege, von dem ich dir versprach: du sollst ihn nicht wieder sehen! Und dort werdet ihr euren Feinden als Sklaven und Sklavinnen feilgeboten werden, und es wird niemand geben, der euch kaufen mag.
And Yahweh will take thee back again to Egypt in ships, by the way whereof I said unto thee, Thou shalt not again any more see it. And ye will offer yourselves there for sale unto thine enemies as servants and as handmaids with no one to buy.
