5 Mose 10

1 Damals befahl mir Jahwe: Haue dir zwei steinerne Tafeln zurecht, wie die früheren waren, und steige herauf zu mir auf den Berg; auch verfertige dir eine hölzerne Lade!

At that time the LORD said to me, “Cut two stone tablets like the first, and come up to me onto the mountain, and make an ark of wood.

2 Ich will auf die Tafeln die Worte schreiben, die auf den früheren Tafeln standen, die du zerbrochen hast, und dann sollst du sie in die Lade legen.

I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets which you broke, and you shall put them in the ark.”

3 Als ich demgemäß eine Lade aus Akazienholz verfertigt und zwei steinerne Tafeln, wie die früheren, zurechtgehauen hatte, stieg ich mit den beiden Tafeln in der Hand hinauf auf den Berg.

So I made an ark of acacia wood, and cut two stone tablets like the first, and went up onto the mountain, having the two tablets in my hand.

4 Da schrieb er die zehn Worte, die er am Tage der Versammlung auf dem Berg aus dem Feuer heraus zu euch geredet hatte, in der gleichen Schrift, wie zuvor, auf die Tafeln. Sodann übergab sie mir Jahwe.

He wrote on the tablets, according to the first writing, the ten commandments, which the LORD spoke to you on the mountain out of the middle of the fire in the day of the assembly; and the LORD gave them to me.

5 Da stieg ich wieder vom Berge herab und, wie mir Jahwe befohlen hatte, legte ich die Tafeln in die Lade, die ich verfertigt hatte, und sie blieben daselbst.

I turned and came down from the mountain, and put the tablets in the ark which I had made; and there they are as the LORD commanded me.

6 Und die Israeliten zogen von Beeroth Bene Jaakan nach Mosera. Dort starb Aaron und wurde dort begraben, und sein Sohn Eleasar wurde an seiner Statt Priester.

(The children of Israel travelled from Beeroth Bene Jaakan to Moserah. There Aaron died, and there he was buried; and Eleazar his son ministered in the priest’s office in his place.

7 Von da zogen sie nach Gudgoda und von Gudgoda nach Jotha, einer Gegend, wo sich Wasserbäche finden.

From there they travelled to Gudgodah; and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land of brooks of water.

8 Damals sonderte Jahwe den Stamm Levi dazu aus, daß er die Lade mit dem Gesetze Jahwes trage, vor Jahwe als sein ständiger Diener stehe und in seinem Namen segne, wie es bis heute geschieht.

At that time the LORD set apart the tribe of Levi to bear the ark of the LORD’s covenant, to stand before the LORD to minister to him, and to bless in his name, to this day.

9 Darum fiel Levi kein Anteil noch Erbbesitz zu, wie seinen Brüdern; Jahwe ist sein Erbbesitz, wie Jahwe, dein Gott, ihm verheißen hat.

Therefore Levi has no portion nor inheritance with his brothers; the LORD is his inheritance, according as the LORD your God spoke to him.)

10 Ich aber blieb, wie das erste Mal, vierzig Tage und vierzig Nächte auf dem Berg, und Jahwe erhörte mich auch diesmal: Jahwe wollte dich nicht verderben.

I stayed on the mountain, as at the first time, forty days and forty nights; and the LORD listened to me that time also. The LORD would not destroy you.

11 Und es befahl mir Jahwe: Auf, geh, um an der Spitze des Volks aufzubrechen, daß sie hinkommen und von dem Lande Besitz nehmen, das ich ihnen kraft des ihren Vätern geleisteten Eides verleihen will.

The LORD said to me, “Arise, take your journey before the people; and they shall go in and possess the land which I swore to their fathers to give to them.”

12 Und nun, Israel, was fordert Jahwe, dein Gott, von dir, außer daß du Jahwe, deinen Gott, fürchtest und demgemäß immerdar auf seinen Wegen wandelst, daß du ihn liebst und Jahwe, deinem Gotte, von ganzem Herzen und von ganzer Seele dienst,

Now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, and to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul,

13 indem du die Gebote und Satzungen Jahwes, die ich dir heute gebiete, zu deinem Besten beobachtest?

to keep the LORD’s commandments and statutes, which I command you today for your good?

14 Denn obwohl Jahwe, deinem Gotte, der Himmel bis zu seinen höchsten Höhen, die Erde und alles, was auf ihr ist, gehört,

Behold, to the LORD your God belongs heaven, the heaven of heavens, and the earth, with all that is therein.

15 hat sich doch Jahwe zu deinen Vätern allein geneigt, sie zu lieben, und hat nachher euch, ihre Nachkommen, aus allen Völkern erwählt, wie sich jetzt zeigt.

Only the LORD had a delight in your fathers to love them, and he chose their offspring after them, even you above all peoples, as it is today.

16 So beschneidet nun die Vorhaut eures Herzens und zeigt euch fernerhin nicht mehr halsstarrig!

Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiff-necked.

17 Denn Jahwe, euer Gott, ist der Gott der Götter und der Herr der Herren, der große, mächtige und furchtbare Gott, der keine Parteilichkeit kennt und keine Bestechung annimmt,

For the LORD your God, he is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, the mighty, and the awesome, who doesn’t respect persons or take bribes.

18 der Waisen und Witwen Recht schafft und den Fremdling liebt, daß er ihm Brot und Kleider giebt.

He executes justice for the fatherless and widow and loves the foreigner in giving him food and clothing.

19 Und ihr sollt den Fremdling lieben, denn ihr seid auch Fremdlinge in Ägypten gewesen.

Therefore love the foreigner, for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt.

20 Jahwe, deinen Gott, sollst du fürchten, ihn verehren, ihm anhangen und bei seinem Namen schwören!

You shall fear the LORD your God. You shall serve him. You shall cling to him, and you shall swear by his name.

21 Er ist dein Gott, der an dir jene großen und furchtbaren Dinge gethan hat, die du mit eigenen Augen gesehen hast.

He is your praise, and he is your God, who has done for you these great and awesome things which your eyes have seen.

22 In der Zahl von siebzig Seelen zogen deine Väter nach Ägypten, und jetzt läßt dich Jahwe, dein Gott, an Menge den Sternen des Himmels gleichen.

Your fathers went down into Egypt with seventy persons; and now the LORD your God has made you as the stars of the sky for multitude.
