Apostelgeschichte 27
1 Wie es aber beschlossen ward, daß wir nach Italien abfahren sollten, übergab man den Paulus und einige andere Gefangene einem Hauptmann Namens Julius von der Augusteischen Cohorte.
When it was determined that we should sail for Italy, they delivered Paul and certain other prisoners to a centurion named Julius, of the Augustan band.
2 Wir bestiegen aber ein Adramyttenisches Schiff, welches an die Plätze von Asia fahren wollte, und giengen unter Segel in Begleitung des Makedoniers Aristarchus von Thessalonike.
Embarking in a ship from Adramyttium, which was about to sail to places on the coast of Asia, we put to sea; Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica, being with us.
3 Und am folgenden Tage fuhren wir nach Sidon, und Julius, der den Paulus menschenfreundlich behandelte, gestattet ihm zu den Freunden zu gehen und sich pflegen zu lassen.
The next day, we landed at Sidon. Julius treated Paul kindly, and gave him permission to go to his friends and refresh himself.
4 Und von dort giengen wir wieder unter Segel, fuhren unter Kypros hin, weil uns die Winde entgegen waren,
Putting to sea from there, we sailed under the lee of Cyprus, because the winds were contrary.
5 durchfuhren das Meer von Kilikia und Pamphylia, und gelangten nach Myrrha in Lykia.
When we had sailed across the sea which is off Cilicia and Pamphylia, we came to Myra, a city of Lycia.
6 Und da der Hauptmann hier ein Alexandrinisches Schiff fand, das nach Italien gieng, brachte er uns auf dasselbe.
There the centurion found a ship of Alexandria sailing for Italy, and he put us on board.
7 Nach vielen Tagen langsamer Fahrt aber kamen wir mühsam nach Knidos; und da uns der Wind nicht beilegen ließ, fuhren wir unter Kreta in der Gegend von Salmone,
When we had sailed slowly many days, and had come with difficulty opposite Cnidus, the wind not allowing us further, we sailed under the lee of Crete, opposite Salmone.
8 und nur mit Schwierigkeit gelang es uns, von der Küste abzuhalten und einen Ort zu gewinnen, die schönen Häfen genannt, in der Nähe der Stadt Lasaia.
With difficulty sailing along it we came to a certain place called Fair Havens, near the city of Lasea.
9 Da aber so geraume Zeit hingegangen und die Fahrt schon gefährlich war, denn schon war auch die Fastenzeit vorüber, ermahnte sie Paulus
When much time had passed and the voyage was now dangerous, because the Fast had now already gone by, Paul admonished them,
10 und sagte zu ihnen: ihr Männer, ich sehe, daß die Fahrt mit Ungemach und großem Schaden vor sich gehen wird, nicht nur für Ladung und Schiff, sondern auch für unser Leben.
and said to them, "Sirs, I perceive that the voyage will be with injury and much loss, not only of the cargo and the ship, but also of our lives."
11 Der Hauptmann aber vertraute dem Steuermann und dem Schiffsherrn mehr als den Reden des Paulus.
But the centurion gave more heed to the master and to the owner of the ship than to those things which were spoken by Paul.
12 Da aber der Hafen nicht gut zum Ueberwintern taugte, so neigte die Mehrzahl dazu, von dort abzufahren, um wo möglich nach Phoinix zum Ueberwintern zu gelangen, einem kretensischen Hafen, der nach Südwest und Nordwest sieht.
Because the haven was not suitable to winter in, the majority advised going to sea from there, if by any means they could reach Phoenix, and winter there, which is a port of Crete, looking northeast and southeast.
13 Da aber ein leichter Südwind wehte, dachten sie ihrer Absicht sicher zu sein, lichteten und fuhren ganz nahe an Kreta hin.
When the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their purpose, they weighed anchor and sailed along Crete, close to shore.
14 Bald darauf aber brach ein Sturmwind, der Nordost genannt, über die Insel herein,
But before long, a stormy wind beat down from shore, which is called Euraquilo.
15 das Schiff wurde fortgerissen und vermochte nicht gegen den Wind zu halten, so mußten wir zusehen, wie wir getrieben wurden.
When the ship was caught, and could not face the wind, we gave way to it, and were driven along.
16 Als wir dann eine kleine Insel Namens Klauda unterliefen, vermochten wir kaum das Boot zu bemeistern,
Running under the lee of a small island called Cauda, we were able, with difficulty, to secure the boat.
17 das man lichtete, um das Schiff künstlich zu unterbinden. Aus Furcht, in die Syrte zu geraten, zogen sie die Segel ein und trieben so hin.
After they had hoisted it up, they used cables to help reinforce the ship. Fearing that they would run aground on the Syrtis, they lowered the sea anchor, and so were driven along.
18 Da uns der Sturm hart bedrängte, warfen sie am folgenden Tage die Schiffslast aus,
As we labored exceedingly with the storm, the next day they began to throw things overboard.
19 und am dritten mit eigener Hand das Schiffsgerät.
On the third day, they threw out the ship's tackle with their own hands.
20 Mehrere Tage aber sah man nicht Sonne noch Stern, der Sturm tobte, und alle Hoffnung auf Rettung schwand,
When neither sun nor stars shone on us for many days, and no small storm pressed on us, all hope that we would be saved was now taken away.
21 da auch großer Nahrungsmangel eintrat. Da trat Paulus unter sie und sprach: ihr Männer, ihr hättet mir folgen sollen und nicht von Kreta unter Segel gehen, und dieses Ungemach und Schaden auf euch ziehen.
When they had been long without food, Paul stood up in the middle of them, and said, "Sirs, you should have listened to me, and not have set sail from Crete, and have gotten this injury and loss.
22 Immerhin heiße ich euch jetzt getrost sein; es wird kein Leben von euch verloren gehen, nur das Schiff.
Now I exhort you to cheer up, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship.
23 Denn in dieser Nacht ist ein Engel des Gottes, dem ich gehöre, dem ich auch diene, zur mir getreten
For there stood by me this night an angel, belonging to the God whose I am and whom I serve,
24 und hat gesagt: fürchte dich nicht, Paulus, du sollst vor den Kaiser kommen, und siehe, Gott hat dir alle deine Schiffsgenossen geschenkt.
saying, 'Do not be afraid, Paul. You must stand before Caesar. And look, God has granted you all those who sail with you.'
25 Darum seid wohlgemut, ihr Männer, ich glaube Gott, daß es so kommt, wie zu mir gesprochen ward.
Therefore, sirs, cheer up. For I believe God, that it will be just as it has been spoken to me.
26 Wir müssen aber auf eine Insel stoßen.
But we must run aground on a certain island."
27 Wie es aber zum vierzehnten mal Nacht ward, seit wir in der Adria herumgetrieben wurden, vermuteten die Schiffsleute um Mitternacht die Nähe von Land.
But when the fourteenth night had come, as we were driven back and forth in the Adriatic Sea, about midnight the sailors surmised that they were drawing near to some land.
28 Und da man auswarf, fand man zwanzig Klafter, bei abermaligem Auswerfen aber nicht weit davon fünfzehn.
They took soundings, and found twenty fathoms. After a little while, they took soundings again, and found fifteen fathoms.
29 Und in der Furcht, wir möchten in Klippen geraten, warfen sie vier Anker vom Hinterteil aus und sehnten sich nach dem Anbruch des Tages.
Fearing that we would run aground on rocky ground, they let go four anchors from the stern, and wished for daylight.
30 Da aber die Schiffsleute aus dem Schiffe zu fliehen suchten und das Boot in See ließen unter dem Vorgeben vom Vorderteil aus Anker zu werfen,
As the sailors were trying to flee out of the ship, and had lowered the boat into the sea, pretending that they would lay out anchors from the bow,
31 sagte Paulus zu dem Hauptmann und den Soldaten: wenn sie nicht im Schiff bleiben, ist für euch keine Rettung.
Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, "Unless these stay in the ship, you cannot be saved."
32 Da kappten die Soldaten die Stricke des Boots und ließen dasselbe hinausfallen.
Then the soldiers cut away the ropes of the boat, and let it fall off.
33 Bis es aber Tag wurde, ermunterte Paulus alle, Nahrung zu nehmen, und sagte: heute sind es vierzehn Tage, daß ihr ohne Nahrung zuwartet und nichts zu euch nehmet.
While the day was coming on, Paul urged them all to take some food, saying, "This day is the fourteenth day that you wait and continue fasting, having taken nothing.
34 Darum ermahne ich euch, Nahrung zu nehmen; das kommt euch gut; es soll euch kein Haar vom Kopfe verloren gehen.
Therefore I urge you to take some food, for this is for your preservation; for not a hair will perish from any of your heads."
35 Als er dies gesagt, nahm er Brot, dankte Gott vor allen, brach es und begann zu essen.
When he had said this, and had taken bread, he gave thanks to God in the presence of all, and he broke it, and began to eat.
36 Es wurden aber alle wohlgemut und nahmen ebenfalls Nahrung zu sich.
Then they all cheered up, and they also took food.
37 Wir waren aber im ganzen im Schiff unser zweihundertsechsundsiebenzig Seelen.
In all, we were two hundred seventy-six souls on the ship.
38 Nachdem sie sich aber satt gegessen, erleichterten sie das Schiff durch Auswerfen des Proviants in das Meer.
When they had eaten enough, they lightened the ship, throwing out the wheat into the sea.
39 Als es aber Tag wurde, erkannten sie das Land nicht, sie nahmen aber eine Bucht wahr mit einem Hafen, in welchen sie wo möglich das Schiff zu retten beschlossen.
When it was day, they did not recognize the land, but they noticed a certain bay with a beach, and they decided to try to drive the ship onto it.
40 Und nachdem sie die Anker gekappt und in die See fallen gelassen, machten sie die Bande der Steuerruder los, stellten das Besansegel gegen den Wind und hielten auf den Strand.
Casting off the anchors, they left them in the sea, at the same time untying the rudder ropes. Hoisting up the foresail to the wind, they made for the beach.
41 Da sie aber auf eine Erdzunge gerieten, stießen sie mit dem Schiffe auf, und das Vorderteil bohrte sich ein und saß unbeweglich fest, das Hinterteil aber gieng durch den Anprall auseinander.
But coming to a place where two seas met, they ran the vessel aground. The bow struck and remained immovable, but the stern began to break up by the violence of the waves.
42 Die Soldaten aber wollten die Gefangenen töten, damit nicht einer durch Schwimmen davon komme.
The soldiers' counsel was to kill the prisoners, so that none of them would swim out and escape.
43 Der Hauptmann aber wollte den Paulus retten, und verhinderte sie an ihrem Vorhaben; er hieß die, welche schwimmen konnten, zuerst sich ins Wasser stürzen und das Land gewinnen,
But the centurion, desiring to save Paul, stopped them from their purpose, and commanded that those who could swim should throw themselves overboard first to go toward the land;
44 die andern sollten teils auf Brettern, teils auf Schiffstrümmern dahin kommen. Und so gelang es alle aufs Land zu retten.
and the rest should follow, some on planks, and some on other things from the ship. So it happened that they all escaped safely to the land.
