2 Samuel 3
1 Während sich nun der Krieg zwischen dem Hause Sauls und dem Hause David lange hinzog, wurde David immer mächtiger, das Haus Sauls aber immer schwächer.
Now there was a long war between the house of Saul and the house of David. David grew stronger and stronger, but the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker.
2 In Hebron wurden David Söhne geboren: sein Erstgeborener war Amnon, von Ahinoam aus Jesreel,
Sons were born to David in Hebron. His firstborn was Amnon, by Ahinoam from Jezreel.
3 sein zweiter Kileab, von Abigail, dem Weibe des Karmeliters Nabal, der dritte Absalom, der Sohn Maachas, der Tochter des Königs Thalmai von Gesur,
His second son, Kileab, was born to Abigail, the widow of Nabal from Carmel. The third, Absalom, was son of Maacah, daughter of Talmai, king of Geshur.
4 der vierte Adonia, der Sohn Haggiths, der fünfte Sephatja, der Sohn Abitals,
David's fourth son, Adonijah, was the son of Haggith. His fifth son was Shephatiah son of Abital,
5 der sechste Jitream, von Davids Weibe Egla. Diese wurden David in Hebron geboren.
and the sixth, Ithream, was the son of David's wife Eglah. These sons were born to David in Hebron.
6 Während nun der Krieg zwischen dem Hause Sauls und dem Hause Davids währte, stand Abner dem Hause Sauls kräftig zur Seite.
It came about during the war between the house of Saul and the house of David that Abner made himself strong in the house of Saul.
7 Nun hatte Saul ein Kebsweib, Namens Rizpa, eine Tochter Ajas, gehabt. Da fragte Sauls Sohn Esbaal Abner: Warum bist du zu meines Vaters Kebsweib gegangen?
Saul had a concubine whose name was Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah. Ishbosheth said to Abner, “Why have you slept with my father's concubine?”
8 Über diese Frage Esbaals erzürnte sich Abner heftig und er rief: Bin ich denn ein judäischer Hundskopf? Heute übe ich Liebesdienste an dem Hause deines Vaters Saul gegenüber seinen eigenen Angehörigen und Freunden und habe dich nicht in Davids Hände geraten lassen - und heute machst du mir Vorwürfe um eines Weibes willen!
Then Abner was very angry at the words of Ishbosheth and said, “Am I a dog's head that belongs to Judah? Today I am showing faithfulness to the house of Saul, your father, to his brothers, and to his friends, by not delivering you into the hand of David. But now you accuse me of an offense concerning this woman?
9 Gott tue Abner dies und das - was Jahwe David zugeschworen hat, werde ich an ihm erfüllen:
May God do so to me, Abner, and more also, if I do not do for David as Yahweh has sworn to him,
10 ich werde das Königtum dem Hause Sauls abnehmen, um Davids Thron über Israel und Juda aufzurichten von Dan bis Beerseba!
to transfer the kingdom from the house of Saul and set up the throne of David over Israel and over Judah, from Dan to Beersheba.”
11 Jener vermochte Abner aus Furcht vor ihm kein Wort zu erwidern.
Ishbosheth could not answer Abner another word, because he feared him.
12 So schickte denn Abner Gesandte zu David nach Hebron mit der Botschaft: Wem gehört das Land? Damit wollte er sagen: Schließe einen Vertrag mit mir, so werde ich dir Beistand leisten, daß du ganz Israel auf deine Seite bringst!
Then Abner sent messengers to David to speak for him saying, “Whose land is this? Make a covenant with me, and you will see that my hand is with you, to bring all Israel to you.”
13 Jener gab zur Antwort: Gut, ich schließe einen Vertrag mit dir; nur stelle ich dabei eine Forderung an dich, nämlich: du trittst mir nicht unter die Augen, ohne daß du Sauls Tochter Michal mitbringst, wenn du herkommst, um mir unter die Augen zu treten.
David answered, “Good, I will make a covenant with you. But one thing I require from you is that you cannot see my face unless you first bring Michal, Saul's daughter, when you come to see me.”
14 Aber David schickte Gesandte an Sauls Sohn Esbaal mit der Forderung: Gieb mein Weib Michal heraus, das ich mir um den Preis von hundert Philistervorhäuten gefreit habe!
Then David sent messengers to Ishbosheth, Saul's son, saying, “Give me my wife Michal, for whom I paid a price of one hundred Philistine foreskins.”
15 Da schickte Esbaal hin und ließ sie ihrem Gatten Paltiel, dem Sohne des Lais, wegnehmen.
So Ishbosheth sent for Michal and took her from her husband, Paltiel son of Laish.
16 Ihr Gatte gab ihr das Geleite und folgte ihr unter beständigem Weinen bis Bahurim. Hier rief Abner ihn an: Fort! Geh heim! Da kehrte er heim.
Her husband went with her, weeping as he went, and followed her to Bahurim. Then Abner said to him, “Return home now.” So he returned.
17 Nun hatte Abner mit den Vornehmsten in Israel Verhandlungen gepflogen und ihnen vorgehalten: Schon längst habt ihr David zum König über euch begehrt:
Abner spoke with the elders of Israel saying, “In the past you were trying to have David be king over you.
18 so führt es denn jetzt aus; denn Jahwe hat David zugesagt: Durch die Hand meines Knechtes David will ich mein Volk Israel aus der Gewalt der Philister und aller ihrer Feinde befreien.
Now do it. For Yahweh has spoken of David saying, 'By the hand of my servant David I will save my people Israel from the hand of the Philistines and from the hand of all their enemies.'”
19 Ebenso sprach sich Abner gegen die Benjaminiten aus und machte sich außerdem auf den Weg, um David in Hebron die Willensmeinung Israels und des ganzen Stammes Benjamin zu eröffnen.
Abner also spoke personally to the people of Benjamin. Then Abner went also to speak with David in Hebron to explain everything that Israel and the whole house of Benjamin desired to accomplish.
20 Als nun Abner in Begleitung von zwanzig Männern zu David nach Hebron kam, veranstaltete David für Abner und die ihn begleitenden Männer ein Gastmahl.
When Abner and twenty of his men arrived in Hebron to see David, David had a feast prepared for them.
21 Da sprach Abner zu David: Ich will mich auf den Weg machen und um den König, meinen Herrn, das ganze Israel scharen, daß es einen Vertrag mit dir schließt - dann kannst du König sein, soweit als du irgend Lust hast! Darnach entließ David Abner, und er ging unbehelligt hinweg.
Abner explained to David, “I will arise and gather all Israel to you, my master the king, so that they may make a covenant with you, so that you may reign over all that you desire.” So David sent Abner away, and Abner left in peace.
22 Plötzlich aber kamen Davids Krieger mit Joab von einem Streifzug heim und brachten reiche Beute mit, während Abner schon nicht mehr bei David in Hebron war, sondern jener ihn unbehelligt hatte ziehen lassen.
Then the soldiers of David and Joab came from a raid and brought much plunder with them. But Abner was not with David in Hebron. David had sent him away, and Abner had left in peace.
23 Als nun Joab mit der ganzen Truppe, die mit ihm gewesen war, heimkam, hinterbrachte man Joab: Abner, der Sohn Ners, hat den König besucht, und er hat ihn unbehelligt wieder ziehen lassen.
When Joab and all the army with him arrived, they told Joab, “Abner son of Ner came to the king, and the king has sent him away, and Abner left in peace.”
24 Da ging Joab zum König und sprach: Was hast du gethan! Also Abner hat dich besucht: warum hast du ihn denn wieder davon ziehen lassen?
Then Joab came to the king and said, “What have you done? Look, Abner came to you! Why have you sent him away, and he is gone?
25 Merkst du nicht, daß Abner, der Sohn Ners, nur gekommen ist, um dich zu hintergehen und dein Thun und Lassen und alles, was du unternimmst, zu erkunden?
Do you not know that Abner son of Ner came to deceive you and to discover your plans and learn everything you are doing?”
26 Und als Joab David verlassen hatte, schickte er Abner Boten nach; die holten ihn von Bor Hasira wieder zurück, ohne daß David darum wußte.
When Joab left David, he sent messengers after Abner, and they brought him back from the well of Sirah, but David did not know this.
27 Als nun Abner nach Hebron zurückkam, nahm ihn Joab beiseite in einen Winkel des Thors, um vertraulich mit ihm zu reden, und stach ihn hier in den Leib, daß er starb - zur Rache für das Blut seines Bruders Asahel.
When Abner returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside in the middle of the gate to speak with him quietly. There Joab stabbed him in the stomach and killed him. In this way, Joab avenged the blood of Asahel his brother.
28 Als David es nachträglich erfuhr, rief er aus: Ich und mein Königtum sind für immer unschuldig vor Jahwe an dem Blut Abners, des Sohnes Ners!
When David heard about this he said, “I and my kingdom are innocent before Yahweh forever regarding the blood of Abner son of Ner.
29 Möge es zurückfallen auf das Haupt Joabs und auf seines Vaters ganze Familie, und mögen in Joabs Familie kein Ende nehmen solche, die an Fluß und Aussatz leiden, Leute, die sich auf Krücken stützen, die durchs Schwert fallen oder denen es an Brot fehlt!
Let the guilt of Abner's death fall on the head of Joab and on all his father's house. May there never fail to be in the family of Joab someone who has a flowing sore or skin disease or who is lame and must walk with a staff or who is killed by the sword or who goes without food.”
30 Joab und sein Bruder Abisai hatten nämlich Abner ermordet, weil er ihren Bruder Asahel bei Gibeon im Kampfe getötet hatte.
So Joab and Abishai his brother killed Abner, because he had killed their brother Asahel at Gibeon in battle.
31 Und David gebot Joab und seiner gesamten Umgebung: Zerreißt eure Kleider, gürtet euch härene Gewänder um und geht wehklagend vor Abner her! Der König David aber schritt hinter der Bahre her,
David said to Joab and to all the people who were with him, “Tear your clothes, put on sackcloth, and mourn before Abner's body.” Now King David walked behind the body in the funeral procession.
32 und als man Abner in Hebron begrub, weinte der König gegen Abners Grab hin laut auf, und die Volksmenge weinte gleichfalls.
They buried Abner in Hebron. The king wept and cried loudly at the tomb of Abner, and all the people also wept.
33 Sodann dichtete der König auf Abner folgendes Klagelied: Mußte Abner den Tod eines Gottlosen sterben:
The king lamented for Abner and sang, “Should Abner die as a fool dies?
34 Deine Hände waren nicht gebunden, deine Füße nicht in Fesseln geschlagen - wie einer vor Ruchlosen fällt, bist du gefallen! Da weinte die Volksmenge noch mehr um ihn.
Your hands were not bound. Your feet were not shackled. As a man falls before the sons of injustice, so you have fallen.” Once more all the people wept over him.
35 Während es noch Tag war, kam dann die Volksmenge, um David zu nötigen, daß er etwas genieße. Aber David schwur: Gott thue mir dies und das, wenn ich vor Sonnenuntergang Brot oder irgend etwas sonst genieße!
All the people came to make David eat while it was still day, but David swore, “May God do so to me, and more also, if I taste bread or anything else before the sun goes down.”
36 Als dies die Volksmenge wahrnahm, gefiel es ihr wohl; überhaupt gefiel alles, was der König that, der Volksmenge wohl.
All the people took notice of David's grief, and it pleased them, as whatever the king did pleased them.
37 Damals überzeugte sich die Volksmenge und ganz Israel, daß die Ermordung Abners, des Sohnes Ners, nicht vom König ausgegangen war.
So all the people and all Israel understood that day that it was not the king's desire to kill Abner son of Ner.
38 Auch äußerte der König gegen seine Umgebung: Wisset ihr nicht, daß heute ein Fürst und Großer in Israel gefallen ist?
The king said to his servants, “Do you not know that a prince and a great man has fallen this day in Israel?
39 Ich aber bin heute, obwohl zum Könige gesalbt, schwach, während diese Leute, die Söhne der Zeruja, in ihrer Gewaltthätigkeit mir überlegen sind! Möge Jahwe dem, der den Frevel begangen hat, seinem Frevel gemäß vergelten!
Now I am weak today, though I am an anointed king. These men, the sons of Zeruiah, are too brutal for me. May Yahweh repay the evildoer by punishing him for his wickedness, as he deserves.”
