2 Samuel 16

1 David hatte den Gipfel nur wenig überschritten, als ihm auf einmal Ziba, der Diener Meribaals, mit einem Paar gesattelter Esel entgegen kam, die zweihundert Brote, hundert Rosinentrauben, hundert Obstkuchen und einen Schlauch Wein trugen.

Now when David was a little past the top, look, Ziba the servant of Mippibaal met him with a couple of donkeys saddled, and on them two hundred loaves of bread, a hundred bunches of raisins, a hundred of summer fruits, and a container of wine.

2 Der König fragte Ziba: Was willst du damit? Ziba erwiderte: Die Esel sind für die königliche Familie zum Reiten, das Brot und das Obst, daß die Dienerschaft zu essen, und der Wein, daß die Ermatteten in der Steppe zu trinken haben!

And the king said to Ziba, "Why did you bring these things?" And Ziba replied, "The donkeys are for the king's household to ride on, and the bread and summer fruit for the young men to eat, and the wine is for those who get exhausted in the desert."

3 Da fragte der König: Wo ist aber der Sohn deines Herrn? Ziba erwiderte dem König: Er ist in Jerusalem geblieben, weil er dachte: Nun wird das Haus Israel mir das Reich meines Vaters zurückgeben!

Then the king said, "Where is your master's son?" Ziba said to the king, "Look, he is staying in Jerusalem, for he said, 'Today the children of Israel will restore to me the kingdom of my father.'"

4 Da sprach der König zu Ziba: So soll nun aller Besitz Meribaals dir gehören! Ziba rief aus: Ich werfe mich nieder! Mögest du mir gnädig gesinnt sein, mein königlicher Herr!

Then the king said to Ziba, "Look, all that pertains to Mippibaal is yours." Ziba said, "I humbly bow. May I find favor in the sight of my lord the king."

5 Als aber der König David bis Bahurim gelangt war, kam dort auf einmal ein Mann vom Geschlechte des Hauses Sauls, Namens Simei, Sogn Geras, heraus. Unter beständigem Fluchen kam er heraus

And when king David reached Bahurim, now look, a man of the family of the house of Saul came out, whose name was Shimei the son of Gera. He came out and cursed continuously as he approached.

6 und bewarf David und sämtliche Hofbeamte des Königs David mit Steinen, obwohl alles Volk und sämtliche Gibborim zu seiner Rechten und zu seiner Linken gingen.

And he threw stones at David and at all his servants, and all the people and all the soldiers at his right hand and at his left.

7 Und zwar schrie Simei folgende Flüche: Hinaus, hinaus, du Blutmensch, du Nichtswürdiger!

And Shimei said as he cursed, "Get out, get out, you man of blood, and worthless man.

8 Jahwe hat all das Blut des Hauses Sauls, an dessen Stelle du König geworden bist, über dich gebracht, und Jahwe hat das Königtum deinem Sohn Absalom übergeben, und nun bist du im Unglück, weil du ein Blutmensch bist!

Jehovah has returned on you all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose place you have reigned, and Jehovah has given the kingdom into the hand of your son Absalom. And look, your evil is upon you, because you are a man of bloodshed."

9 Da sprach Abisai, der Sohn der Zeruja, zum Könige: Weshalb soll dieser tote Hund meinem königlichen Herrn fluchen dürfen? Laß mich hinübergehen und ihm den Kopf abhauen!

Then Abishai the son of Zeruiah said to the king, "Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Please let me go over and take off his head."

10 Der König aber rief: Was habe ich mit euch zu schaffen, ihr Zerujasöhne? Wenn er flucht, und wenn Jahwe im geheißen hat: Fluche David! - wer darf dann fragen: Weshalb thust du so?!

The king said, "What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah? Because he curses, and because Jehovah has said to him, 'Curse David;' who then shall say, 'Why have you done so?'"

11 Und David sprach zu Abisai und zu seinem ganzen Hofe: Wenn mein Sohn, der von meinem Leibe gekommen ist, mir nach dem Leben steht - wieviel mehr dann dieser Benjaminit? Laßt ihn, er mag fluchen, denn Jahwe hat es ihm geheißen!

Then David said to Abishai and to all his servants, "Look, my son who came from my body seeks my life. So also now this Benjamite. Leave him alone and let him curse, for Jehovah has told him to.

12 Vielleicht wird Jahwe mein Elend ansehen und wird Jahwe mir wieder Glück geben an Stelle des Fluchs, der mich heute trifft.

Perhaps Jehovah will look on my affliction and return good to me for his cursing today."

13 So zog David mit seinen Leuten seines Wegs, Simei aber ging an der Seite des Bergs neben ihm her und fluchte im Gehen, bewarf ihn mit Steinen und besprengte ihn mit Erdschollen.

So David and his men went by the way; and Shimei went along on the hillside opposite him, and cursed as he went, threw stones at his flank, and threw dirt.

14 Darauf gelangte der König mit allem Volke, das er bei sich hatte, erschöpft nach dem Jordan; dort erholte er sich.

Now the king and all his people arrived weary at the Jordan, and he refreshed himself there.

15 Absalom aber war mit allen Männern Israels nach Jerusalem gelangt; auch Ahitophel war bei ihm.

Now Absalom and all the men of Israel arrived in Jerusalem, and Ahithophel was with him.

16 Als nun Davids Freund, der Arkiter Husai, bei Absalom eintraf, rief Husai Absalom zu: Es lebe der König! Es lebe der König!

And it came about when David's friend Hushai the Archite came to Absalom, that Hushai said to Absalom, "Long live the king. Long live the king."

17 Absalom fragte Husai: Ist das deine Liebe zu deinem Freunde? Warum bist du nicht mit deinem Freunde gegangen?

So Absalom said to Hushai, "Is this your loyalty to your friend? Why did you not go with your friend?"

18 Husai erwiderte Absalom: Nein, sondern wen Jahwe erwählt hat und dieses Volk und alle Israeliten, - dem gehöre ich an und bei dem bleibe ich!

Then Hushai said to Absalom, "No, but whom Jehovah and this people and all the men of Israel have chosen, his will I belong, and with him I will stay.

19 Und zweitens: Wem thue ich Dienst? - doch bei dem Sohn? Wie ich bei deinem Vater Dienst gethan habe, so werde ich zu deiner Verfügung sein!

Again, whom should I serve? Shouldn't I serve in the presence of his son? As I have served in your father's presence, so will I be in your presence."

20 Darauf sprach Absalom zu Ahitophel: Gebt euren Rat, was wir thun sollen!

Then Absalom said to Ahithophel, "Give your counsel. What should we do?"

21 Ahitophel erwiderte Absalom: Begieb dich zu den Kebsweibern deines Vaters, die er dagelassen hat, den Palast zu bewachen: dann wird ganz Israel hören, daß du dich bei deinem Vater in Verruf gebracht hast, und alle deine Anhänger werden dadurch ermutigt werden.

Ahithophel said to Absalom, "Go in to your father's secondary wives, that he has left to care for the palace. Then all Israel will hear that you have made yourself a stench to your father. Then those on your side will be motivated to support you."

22 Da schlug man Absalom auf dem Dach ein Zelt auf; dann ging Absalom vor den Augen des ganzen Israel zu den Kebsweibern seines Vaters hinein.

So they set up a tent for Absalom on the roof, and Absalom went in to his father's secondary wives in the sight of all Israel.

23 Ein Rat nämlich, den Ahitophel erteilt hatte, galt zu jener Zeit, wie wenn jemand das Gotteswort befragte, - so galt jeder Rat Ahitophels bei David, wie bei Absalom.

Now in those days the counsel that Ahithophel gave was as if one inquired of the word of God. So was all the counsel of Ahithophel both to David and to Absalom.
