2 Samuel 10
1 Darnach ereignete es sich, daß der König der Ammoniter starb, und sein Sohn Hanun an seiner Stelle zur Regierung kam.
It came about later that the king of the people of Ammon died, and that Hanun his son became king in his place.
2 David dachte: Ich will mich gegen Hanun, den Sohn de Nahas, freundlich erzeigen, wie sich sein Vater mir gegenüber freundlich erzeigt hat. So schickte denn David hin, um ihn durch Leute seiner Umgebung wegen seines Vaters Trost zusprechen zu lassen. Als nun Davids Hofbeamte ins Land der Ammoniter kamen,
David said, “I will show kindness to Hanun son of Nahash, as his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent his servants to comfort Hanun concerning his father. His servants entered the land of the people of Ammon.
3 sagten die Fürsten der Ammoniter zu ihrem Herrn Hanun: Glaubst du denn, daß David, indem er dir Tröster zusendet, deinem Vater eine Ehre erzeigen will? Sicher hat David seine Beamten nur zum Zweck der Erforschung der Stadt an dich gesandt, um sie auszukundschaften und dann zu zerstören!
But the leaders of the people of Ammon said to Hanun their master, “Do you really think that David is honoring your father because he has sent men to comfort you? Has not David sent his servants to you to look at the city, to spy it out, in order to overthrow it?”
4 Da ließ Hanan die Beamten Davids ergreifen, ließ ihnen den Bart halb abscheren und die Kleider halb abschneiden, bis ans Gesäß, und schickte sie dann fort.
So Hanun took David's servants, shaved off half their beards, cut off their garments up to their buttocks, and sent them away.
5 Als man dies David meldete, sandte er ihnen entgegen - denn die Männer waren schwer beschimpft -, und der König ließ ihnen sagen: Bleibt in Jericho; erst wenn euch der Bart wieder gewachsen ist, kommt zurück!
When they explained this to David, he sent to meet with them, for the men were deeply ashamed. The king said, “Stay at Jericho until your beards have grown back, and then return.”
6 Als nun die Ammoniter merkten, daß sie sich bei David verhaßt gemacht hatten, schickten die Ammoniter hin und erkauften sich die Aramäer von Beth Rehob und die Aramäer von Zoba, 20000 Fußsoldaten, sowie den König von Maacha, Istob mit zwölftausend Mann.
When the people of Ammon saw that they had become a stench to David, the people of Ammon sent messengers and hired the Arameans of Beth Rehob and Zobah, twenty thousand foot soldiers, and the king of Maacah with a thousand men, and the men of Tob with twelve thousand men.
7 Als David davon hörte, schickte er Joab mit dem ganzen Heere, den Gibborim, hin.
When David heard of it, he sent Joab and all the army of soldiers.
8 Aber die Ammoniter rückten aus und stellten sich vor dem Stadtthor in Schlachtordnung auf, während die Aramäer von Zoba und Rehob, sowie Istob und Maacha für sich auf freiem Felde standen.
The Ammonites came out and formed a line of battle at the entrance to their city gate, while the Arameans of Zobah and of Rehob, and the men of Tob and Maacah, stood by themselves in the open fields.
9 Als nun Joab sah, daß ihm sowohl von vorn, wie von hinten ein Angriff drohe, traf er eine Auswahl aus allen Erlesenen Israels und stellte sich den Aramäern gegenüber.
When Joab saw the battle lines facing him both in front and behind, he chose some of Israel's best fighters and arranged them against the Arameans.
10 Den Rest des Kriegsvolks hingegen über gab er der Führung seines Bruders Abisai, damit er sich den Ammonitern gegenüber stelle.
The rest of his people he put into the hand of Abishai his brother, and he set them out in position to fight against the army of Ammon.
11 Dabei ordnete er an: Wenn die Aramäer mir überlegen sind, so mußt du mir zu Hilfe kommen; sind aber die Ammoniter dir überlegen, so werde ich herkommen, dir zu helfen.
Joab said, “If the Arameans are too strong for me, then you, Abishai, must rescue me. But if the army of Ammon is too strong for you, then I will come and rescue you.
12 Sei mannhaft und laß uns mannhaft auftreten für unser Volk und für die Städte unseres Gottes - Jahwe aber möge thun, was ihm wohlgefällt!
Be strong, and let us show ourselves to be strong for our people and for the cities of our God, for Yahweh will do what is good for his purpose.”
13 So rückte denn Joab mit den Truppen, die er bei sich hatte, zum Kampfe gegen die Aramäer vor, und sie flohen vor ihn.
So Joab and the soldiers of his army advanced to the battle against the Arameans, who were forced to flee before the army of Israel.
14 Als aber die Ammoniter bemerkten, daß die Aramäer flohen, flohen sie vor Abisai und zogen sich in die Stadt zurück. Joab aber ließ von den Ammonitern ab und kehrte nach Jerusalem zurück.
When the army of Ammon saw that the Arameans had fled, they also fled from Abishai and went back into the city. Then Joab returned from the people of Ammon and went back to Jerusalem.
15 Als nun die Aramäer sahen, daß sie von den Israeliten geschlagen worden waren, sammelten sie sich,
When the Arameans saw that they were being defeated by Israel, they gathered themselves together again.
16 und Hadadeser sandte hin und ließ die Aramäer von jenseits des Stromes ausrücken. Sie kamen nach Helam mit Sobach, dem Feldherrn Hadadesers, an der Spitze.
Then Hadarezer sent for Aramean troops from beyond the Euphrates River. They came to Helam, and Shobak, the commander of Hadarezer's army, went before them.
17 Als das David hinterbracht wurde, bot er ganz Israel auf, überschritt den Jordan und gelangte nach Helam. Die Aramäer stellten sich David entgegen und lieferten ihm eine Schlacht.
When David was told this, he gathered all Israel together, crossed the Jordan, and arrived at Helam. The Arameans arranged themselves in battle lines against David and fought him.
18 Aber die Aramäer flohen vor den Israeliten und David tötete den Aramäern 700 Wagenpferde und 40000 Mann; auch ihren Feldherrn Sobach verwundete er so, daß er dort starb.
The Arameans fled from Israel, and David killed seven hundred of their men in chariots and forty thousand horsemen. Shobak the commander of their army was wounded and died there.
19 Als aber sämtliche Hadadeser untergebenen Könige sahen, daß sie von den Israelliten geschlagen waren, schlossen sie Frieden mit den Israeliten und unterwarfen sich ihnen, und die Aramäer fürchteten sich, den Ammonitern ferner noch Hilfe zu leisten.
When all the kings who were servants of Hadarezer saw that they were defeated by Israel, they made peace with Israel and became their subjects. So the Arameans were afraid to help the people of Ammon anymore.
