1 Und eines von den Weibern der Prophetenjünger schrie Elisa also an: Mein Mann, dein Knecht, ist gestorben, und du weißt, daß dein Knecht allezeit Jahwe fürchtete; nun kommt der Gläubiger und will sich meine beiden Knaben zu Sklaven nehmen!
And one of the wiues of the sonnes of the Prophets cryed vnto Elisha, saying, Thy seruant mine husband is dead, and thou knowest, that thy seruant did feare the Lord: and the creditour is come to take my two sonnes to bee his bondmen.
2 Elisa aber sprach zu ihr: Was soll ich für dich thun? Sage mir, was hast du im Hause? Sie antwortete: Deine Magd hat gar nichts im Hause als ein Salbgefäß mit etwas Öl.
Then Elisha saide vnto her, What shall I do for thee? tell mee, what hast thou at home? And she sayd, Thine handmayd hath nothing at home, saue a pitcher of oyle.
3 Da sprach er: geh und borge dir draußen von der ganzen Nachbarschaft leere Gefäße, aber nicht zu wenige;
And he sayde, Goe, and borowe thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, emptie vessels, and spare not.
4 dann gehe hinein, verschließe die Thüre hinter dir und deinen Söhnen und gieße in alle diese Gefäße ein, und wenn eines voll ist, so setze es beiseite!
And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the doore vpon thee and vpon thy sonnes, and powre out into all those vessels, and set aside those that are full.
5 Da ging sie von ihm hinweg und that also. Sie verschloß die Türe hinter sich und ihren Söhnen; diese langten ihr zu und sie goß beständig ein.
So shee departed from him, and shut the doore vpon her, and vpon her sonnes. And they brought to her, and she powred out.
6 Als nun die Gefäße voll waren, sprach sie zu ihrem Sohne: Lange mir noch ein Gefäß her! Er erwiderte ihr: Es ist kein Gefäß mehr da! Da floß das Öl nicht weiter.
And when the vessels were full, shee sayde vnto her sonne, Bring mee yet a vessel. And hee said vnto her, There is no moe vessels. And the oyle ceased.
7 Als sie nun kam und es dem Gottesmanne berichtete, da sprach er: Gehe hin, verkaufe das Öl und bezahle deine Schuld; von dem Übrigen aber magst du und deine Söhne leben.
Then shee came and tolde the man of God. And he saide, Goe, and sell the oyle, and pay them that thou art in debt vnto, and liue thou and thy children of the rest.
8 Eines Tags nun ging Elisa hinüber nach Sunem. Daselbst wohnte eine reiche Frau; die nötigte ihn, bei ihr zu speisen. So oft er nun vorüberkam, kehrte er dort ein, um zu speisen.
And on a time Elisha came to Shunem, and there a woman of great estimation constrained him to eate bread: and as he passed by, he turned in thither to eate bread.
9 Da sprach sie einst zu ihrem Manne: Sieh', ich merke, daß es ein heiliger Gottesmann ist, der da immer bei uns vorüberkommt.
And she sayde vnto her husband, Beholde, I know now, that this is an holy man of God that passeth by vs continually.
10 Laß uns doch ein kleines ummauertes Obergemach herstellen und ihm Bette, Tisch, Stuhl und Leuchter hineinsetzen, damit er, wenn er zu uns kommt, daselbst einkehre.
Let vs make him a litle chamber, I pray thee, with walles, and let vs set him there a bed, and a table, and a stoole, and a candlesticke, that hee may turne in thither when hee commeth to vs.
11 Eines Tags nun kam er auch hin, kehrte in dem Obergemach ein und legte sich dort zum Schlafen nieder.
And on a day, hee came thither and turned into the chamber, and lay therein,
12 Darauf befahl er seinem Diener Gehasi: Rufe die Sunamitin da! Da rief er sie und sie trat vor ihn.
And sayd to Gehazi his seruant, Call this Shunammite: and when hee called her, she stood before him.
13 Da befahl er ihm: Sprich doch zu ihr: Sieh', du hast unsertwegen alle diese Unruhe gemacht; was kann man für dich thun? Brauchst du Fürsprache beim König oder beim Feldhauptmanne? Sie antwortete: ich wohne sicher inmitten meiner Geschlechtsgenossen!
Then he sayd vnto him, Say vnto her now, Beholde, thou hast had all this great care for vs, what shall we doe for thee? Is there any thing to bee spoken for thee to the King or to the captaine of the hoste? And shee answered, I dwell among mine owne people.
14 Als er nun fragte: Was läßt sich denn für sie thun? antwortete Gehasi: Ja doch, sie hat keinen Sohn, und ihr Mann ist alt!
Againe he sayde, What is then to be done for her? Then Gehazi answered, In deede she hath no sonne, and her husband is olde.
15 Da befahl er: Rufe sie! Als er sie nun gerufen hatte, und sie in die Thüre trat,
Then said he, Cal her. And hee called her, and shee stoode in the doore.
16 da sprach er: Übers Jahr um diese Zeit wirst du einen Sohn herzen! Sie aber sprach: Ach nein, Herr, du Mann Gottes, belüge doch deine Magd nicht!
And he said, At this time appointed, according to the time of life, thou shalt embrace a sonne. And she sayd, Oh my Lord, thou man of God, doe not lye vnto thine handmayd.
17 Und die Frau ward schwanger und gebar um dieselbe Zeit im folgenden Jahr einen Sohn, wie Elisa ihr verheißen hatte.
So the woman conceiued, and bare a sonne at that same season, according to the time of life, that Elisha had sayd vnto her.
18 Als nun der Knabe heranwuchs, ging er eines Tags zu seinem Vater hinaus zu den Schnittern.
And when the childe was growen, it fell on a day, that he went out to his father, and to the reapers.
19 Da klagte er seinem Vater: Mein Kopf, mein Kopf! Er aber befahl dem Diener: Trage ihn zu seiner Mutter!
And he sayde to his father, Mine head, mine head. Who sayd to his seruant, Beare him to his mother.
20 Da nahm er ihn auf und brachte ihn hinein zu seiner Mutter; und er saß bis zum Mittag auf ihrem Schoße, dann starb er.
And hee tooke him and brought him to his mother, and hee sate on her knees till noone, and dyed.
21 Da ging sie hinauf, legte ihn auf das Bette des Gottesmannes, schloß hinter ihm zu und ging hinaus.
Then shee went vp, and layed him on the bed of the man of God, and shut the doore vpon him, and went out.
22 Sodann rief sie ihren Mann und sprach: Schicke mir doch einen von den Dienern mit einer Eselin; ich will schnell zu dem Manne Gottes und wieder zurück!
Then she called to her husband, and sayd, Send with me, I pray thee, one of the yong men and one of the asses: for I will haste to the man of God, and come againe.
23 Er aber sprach: Warum willst du zu ihm? Ist doch heute weder Neumond noch Sabbat! Sie antwortete: Es hat nichts auf sich!
And he sayd, Wherefore wilt thou goe to him to day? it is neither newe moone nor Sabbath day. And she answered, All shalbe well.
24 Als sie nun die Eselin gesattelt hatte, befahl sie ihrem Diener: Treibe nur immer an! Halte mich nicht auf im Reiten, bis ich es dir sage!
Then she sadled an asse, and sayde to her seruant, Driue, and goe forward: staye not for me to get vp, except I bid thee.
25 Also zog sie hin und gelangte zu dem Manne Gottes auf den Berg Karmel.
So she went, and came vnto the man of God to mount Carmel. And when the man of God sawe her ouer against him, he sayd to Gehazi his seruant, Beholde, the Shunammite.
26 Laufe ihr sogleich entgegen und frage sie: Geht es dir wohl? Geht es deinem Manne wohl? Geht es dem Knaben wohl? Sie antwortete: Ja!
Runne nowe, I say, to meete her, and say vnto her, Art thou in health? is thine husband in health? and is the child in health? And she answered, We are in health.
27 Als sie aber zu dem Manne Gottes auf den Berg kam, umfaßte sie seine Füße. Da trat Gehasi herzu, um sie wegzustoßen. Aber der mann Gottes sprach: Laß sie, denn sie ist schwer bekümmert, und Jahwe hat mir's verborgen und nicht kundgethan!
And when shee came to the man of God vnto the moutaine, she caught him by his feete: and Gehazi went to her, to thrust her away: but the man of God said, Let her alone: for her soule is vexed within her, and the Lord hath hid it from me, and hath not told it mee.
28 Da sprach sie: Habe ich etwa meinen Herrn um einen Sohn gebeten? Sagte ich nicht, du sollest mich nicht täuschen?
Then she said, Did I desire a sonne of my lord? did I not say, Deceiue me not?
29 Da befahl er Gehasi: Gürte deine Lenden, nimm meinen Stab in die Hand und gehe hin - wenn du jemandem begegnest, so grüße ihn nicht, und wenn dich jemand grüßt, so danke ihm nicht! - und lege meinen Stab auf das Antlitz des Knaben.
Then he sayd to Gehazi, Gird thy loynes, and take my staffe in thine hand, and goe thy way: if thou meete any, salute him not: and if any salute thee, answere him not: and laye my staffe vpon the face of the childe.
30 Die Mutter des Knaben aber sprach: So wahr Jahwe lebt, und so wahr du lebst: ich verlasse dich nicht! Da machte er sich auf und folgte ihr.
And the mother of the childe sayde, As the Lord liueth, and as thy soule liueth, I will not leaue thee. Therefore he arose, and followed her.
31 Gehasi aber war ihnen vorausgegangen und hatte den Stab auf das Antlitz des Knaben gelegt; doch da war kein Laut noch Beachtung zu verspüren. Da kehrte er um, ging ihm entgegen und meldete ihm: Der Knabe ist nicht aufgewacht.
But Gehazi was gone before them, and had layed the staffe vpon the face of the childe, but he neither spake nor heard: wherefore hee returned to meete him, and told him, saying, The childe is not waken.
32 Als nun Elisa ins Haus kam, fand er den Knaben tot auf seinem Bette liegend.
Then came Elisha into the house, and beholde, the childe was dead, and layed vpon his bedde.
33 Da ging er hinein, verschloß die Thür hinter ihnen beiden und betete zu Jahwe.
He went in therefore, and shut the doore vpon them twayne, and prayed vnto the Lord.
34 Sodann stieg er auf das Bette hinauf und legte sich über den Knaben, und zwar that er den Mund auf seinen Mund, die Augen auf seine Augen und die Hände auf seine Hände und beugte sich über ihn; da erwarmte der Leib des Knaben.
After he went vp, and lay vpon the child, and put his mouth on his mouth, and his eyes vpon his eies, and his hands vpon his handes, and stretched himselfe vpon him, and the flesh of the child waxed warme.
35 Dann kam er wieder, ging im Hause einmal auf und ab, stieg hinauf und beugte sich abermals über ihn. Da nieste der Knabe siebenmal; darnach schlug der Knabe seine Augen auf.
And hee went from him, and walked vp and downe in the house, and went vp and spred himselfe vpon him: then the childe neesed seuen times, and opened his eyes.
36 Da rief er Gehasi und befahl: Rufe die Sunamitin da! Und als sie auf sein Rufen zu ihm eingetreten war, sprach er: Nimm deinen Sohn hin!
Then he called Gehazi, and sayd, Call this Shunammite. So he called her, which came in vnto him. And he said vnto her, Take thy sonne.
37 Da trat sie herzu, fiel ihm zu Füßen und verneigte sich bis auf den Boden; alsdann nahm sie ihren Sohn und ging hinaus.
And she came, and fell at his feete, and bowed her selfe to the ground, and tooke vp her sonne, and went out.
38 Elisa aber kam wieder nach Gilgal, währen die Hungersnot im Lande herrschte. Als nun die Prophetenjünger vor ihm saßen, befahl er seinem Diener: Setze den größten Topf zu und koche ein Gericht für die Prophetenjünger!
Afterward Elisha returned to Gilgal, and a famine was in the land, and the children of the Prophets dwelt with him. And hee sayd vnto his seruant, Set on the great pot, and seethe pottage for the children of the Prophets.
39 Da ging einer aufs Feld hinaus, um Kräuter zu pflücken, und als er auf dem Fled ein Rankengewächs fand, pflückte er davon wilde Gurken, sein ganzes Gewand voll, kam heim und schnitt sie in den Eßtopf, denn sie kannten sie nicht.
And one went out into the fielde, to gather herbes, and founde, as it were, a wilde vine, and gathered thereof wilde gourdes his garment ful, and came and shred them into the pot of pottage: for they knew it not.
40 Darauf schüttete man für die Männer aus, damit sie äßen. Sobald sie aber von dem Gerichte kosteten, schrieen sie auf und riefen: Der Tod ist im Topfe, du Mann Gottes! und vermochten es nicht zu essen.
So they powred out for the men to eate: and when they did eate of the pottage, they cryed out, and sayde, O thou man of God, death is in the pot: and they could not eate thereof.
41 Er aber sprach: Bringt nur Mehl her! Und nachdem er es in den Topf geworfen hatte, befahl er: Schütte es den Leuten hin, daß sie essen! Da war nichts Schädliches mehr in dem Topfe.
Then he said, Bring meale. And hee cast it into the potte, and sayd, Powre out for the people, that they may eate: and there was none euill in the pot.
42 Es erschien aber ein Mann von Baal-Salisa und brachte dem Manne Gottes Erstlingsbrot, nämlich zwanzig Gerstenbrote und zerrstoßene Körner in seinem Quersack. Da befahl er: Gieb den Leuten, daß sie essen!
Then came a man from Baal-shalisha, and brought the man of God bread of the first fruits, euen twenty loaues of barley, and full eares of corne in the huske. And hee saide, Giue vnto the people, that they may eate.
43 Sein Diener erwiderte: Wie kann ich das hundert Männern vorlegen? Er aber sprach: Gieb den Leuten, daß sie essen! Denn so spricht Jahwe: Essen werden sie und noch übrig lassen!
And his seruant answered, How shoulde I set this before an hundreth men? He sayd againe, Giue it vnto the people, that they may eate: for thus sayth the Lord, They shall eate, and there shall remaine.
44 Da legte er ihnen vor, und sie aßen und ließen noch übrig, wie Jahwe verheißen hatte.
So he set it before them, and they did eate, and left ouer, according to the word of the Lord.
