1 Zu seiner Zeit zog Nebukadnezar, der König von Babel, heran, und Jojakim ward ihm unterthan drei Jahre lang; dann aber fiel er wieder von ihm ab.

In his days Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up, and Jehoiakim became his servant three years. Then he turned and rebelled against him.

2 Da entsandte Jahwe wider ihn die Streifscharen der Chaldäer und die Streifscharen der Edomiter und die Streifscharen der Moabiter und die Streifscharen der Ammoniter; die entsandte er wider Juda, daß sie es zu Grunde richteten, nach dem Worte Jahwes, das er durch seine Knechte, die Propheten, geredet hatte.

The LORD sent against him bands of the Kasdim, bands of the Syrians, bands of the Moabites, and bands of the children of Ammon, and sent them against Judah to destroy it, according to the LORD’s word which he spoke by his servants the prophets.

3 Nur wegen des Zornes Jahwes erging es über Juda, daß er sie aus seiner Gegenwart entfernte, um der Sünden Manasses willen, gemäß allem, was er gethan hatte;

Surely at the commandment of the LORD this came on Judah, to remove them out of his sight for the sins of Manasseh, according to all that he did,

4 dazu das Blut der Unschuldigen, das er vergossen hatte, so daß er Jerusalem mit unschuldigem Blut erfüllte, - das wollte Jahwe nicht vergeben!

and also for the innocent blood that he shed; for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, and the LORD would not pardon.

5 Was aber sonst noch von Jojakim zu sagen ist und alles, was er ausgeführt hat, das ist ja aufgezeichnet im Buche der Geschichte der Könige von Juda.

Now the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim, and all that he did, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

6 Und Jojakim legte sich zu seinen Vätern, und sein Sohn Jojachin ward König an seiner Statt.

So Jehoiakim slept with his fathers, and Jehoiachin his son reigned in his place.

7 Der König von Ägypten aber zog fortan nicht mehr aus seinem Lande aus, denn der König von Babel hatte vom Bach Ägyptens an bis zum Euphratstrom alles erobert, was dem Könige von Ägypten gehört hatte.

The king of Egypt didn’t come out of his land any more; for the king of Babylon had taken, from the brook of Egypt to the river Euphrates, all that belonged to the king of Egypt.

8 Achtzehn Jahre war Jojachin alt, als er König ward, und drei Monate regierte er zu Jerusalem. Seine Mutter aber hieß Nehustha, die Tochter Elnathans, und stammte aus Jerusalem.

Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem three months. His mother’s name was Nehushta the daughter of Elnathan of Jerusalem.

9 Und er that, was Jahwe mißfiel, ganz wie sein Vater gethan hatte.

He did that which was evil in the LORD’s sight, according to all that his father had done.

10 Zu jener Zeit zogen die Diener Nebukadnezars, des Königs von Babel, gegen Jerusalem heran, und die Stadt geriet in Belagerung.

At that time the servants of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up to Jerusalem, and the city was besieged.

11 Als nun Nebukadnezar, der König von Babel, die Stadt angriff, während seine Diener sie belagerten,

Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to the city while his servants were besieging it,

12 begab sich Jojachin, der König von Juda, zum Könige von Babel hinaus, er und seine Mutter und seine Diener, sein Obersten und seine Kämmerer. Und so nahm ihn der König von Babel im achten Jahre seines Königtums gefangen.

and Jehoiachin the king of Judah went out to the king of Babylon—he, his mother, his servants, his princes, and his officers; and the king of Babylon captured him in the eighth year of his reign.

13 Und er führte alle Schätze des Tempels Jahwes und die Schätze des königlichen Palastes von dort hinweg und zerschlug alle die goldenen Gefäße, die Salomo, der König von Israel, für den Tempel Jahwes angefertigt, wie Jahwe gedroht hatte.

He carried out from there all the treasures of the LORD’s house and the treasures of the king’s house, and cut in pieces all the vessels of gold which Solomon king of Israel had made in the LORD’s temple, as the LORD had said.

14 Ganz Jerusalem aber und alle Obersten und alle wehrfähigen Männer, zehntausend an der Zahl, führte er fort als Gefangene, dazu alle Schmiede und Schlosser; nichts blieb zurück außer den geringen Leuten der Landbevölkerung.

He carried away all Jerusalem, and all the princes, and all the mighty men of valour, even ten thousand captives, and all the craftsmen and the smiths. No one remained except the poorest people of the land.

15 Und er führte den Jojachin hinweg nach Babel; auch die Mutter des Königs, sowie die Frauen des Königs und seine Kämmerer und die Vornehmen des Landes führte er als Gefangene von Jerusalem fort nach Babel.

He carried away Jehoiachin to Babylon, with the king’s mother, the king’s wives, his officers, and the chief men of the land. He carried them into captivity from Jerusalem to Babylon.

16 Dazu alle wehrfähigen Leute, siebentausend an der Zahl, und die Schmiede und Schlosser, tausend an der Zahl, lauter kriegstüchtige Männer, - die brachte der König von Babel als Gefangene nach Babel.

All the men of might, even seven thousand, and the craftsmen and the smiths one thousand, all of them strong and fit for war, even them the king of Babylon brought captive to Babylon.

17 Und der König von Babel machte seinen Oheim Matthanja an seiner Statt zum König und wandelte seinen Namen um in Zedekia.

The king of Babylon made Mattaniah, Jehoiachin’s father’s brother, king in his place, and changed his name to Zedekiah.

18 Einundzwanzig Jahre war Zedekia alt, als er König ward, und elf Jahre regierte er zu Jerusalem. Seine Mutter aber hieß Hamutal, die Tochter Jeremias, und stammte aus Libna.

Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.

19 Und er that, was Jahwe mißfiel, ganz wie Jojakim gethan hatte.

He did that which was evil in the LORD’s sight, according to all that Jehoiakim had done.

20 Denn wegen des Zornes Jahwes erging es über Jerusalem und Juda, bis er sie aus seiner Gegenwart verstoßen hatte. Zedekia aber ward abtrünnig vom Könige von Babel.

For through the anger of the LORD, this happened in Jerusalem and Judah, until he had cast them out from his presence. Then Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.
