1 Thessalonicher 5
1 Ueber die Zeiten und Fristen aber, Brüder, habt ihr nicht nötig euch schreiben zu lassen;
But, brethren, you have no need that I write to you of the times and seasons;
2 ihr wisset selbst zu gut, daß der Tag des Herrn kommt, wie ein Dieb in der Nacht.
for you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night:
3 Wenn sie von Friede und Sicherheit reden, dann kommt das Verderben plötzlich über sie, wie die Wehen über die Schwangere; und sie können nicht entfliehen.
for when they shall say, Peace and safety, then sudden destruction comes upon them, as the pains of birth upon a woman with child, and they shall not escape.
4 Ihr aber, Brüder, seid nicht im Dunkeln, daß euch der Tag überfalle, wie der Dieb.
But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
5 Seid ihr doch allesamt Söhne des Lichtes, Söhne des Tages; nicht der Nacht gehören wir, nicht der Finsternis;
You are all sons of light, and sons of day: we are not of night, nor of darkness.
6 so lasset uns denn nicht schlafen, wie die anderen, sondern wachen und nüchtern sein.
Therefore, let us not sleep, as do others, but let us watch and be sober.
7 Die da schlafen, schlafen bei Nacht, und die da trunken sind, sind bei Nacht trunken;
For those who sleep, sleep in the night; and those who are drunken, are drunken in the night.
8 uns aber lasset nüchtern sein, weil wir dem Tag angehören, angethan mit dem Panzer des Glaubens und der Liebe und dem Helm der Heilshoffnung,
But let us, who are of the day, be sober, having on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet, the hope of salvation:
9 weil uns Gott nicht gesetzt hat zum Zorn, sondern zum Erwerbe des Heils durch unseren Herrn Jesus Christus,
for God has not appointed us to wrath, but to the obtaining of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
10 der für uns gestorben ist, auf daß wir, wir wachen oder schlafen, samt ihm leben.
who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we might live together with him.
11 Darum ermahnt euch unter einander, und erbaut einer den anderen; ihr thut es ja schon.
Wherefore, exhort one another, and edify one another, as you also do.
12 Wir bitten euch aber, Brüder, daß ihr anerkennet diejenigen, welche bei euch die Geschäfte besorgen, und euch vorstehen im Herrn, und euch ermahnen,
Now we beseech you, brethren, to have regard for those who labor among you, and preside over you in the Lord, and admonish you,
13 und sie recht hoch haltet in Liebe um ihres Werkes willen. Lebet im Frieden mit einander.
and that you esteem them very highly in love on account of their work. Be at peace among yourselves.
14 Euch aber, Brüder, mahnen wir: warnet die Unordentlichen, tröstet die Kleinmütigen, nehmt euch der Schwachen an, habt Geduld mit allen,
We exhort you, brethren, admonish the unruly, comfort the faint-hearted, earnestly care for the weak-minded, be of a long-suffering disposition toward all.
15 sehet zu, daß keiner Böses mit Bösem vergelte, trachtet vielmehr allezeit Gutes zu thun unter einander und gegen alle.
See that no one render evil for evil to any, but always pursue that which is good toward one another and toward all.
16 Freuet euch allezeit,
Rejoice always;
17 betet ohne Unterlaß,
pray without ceasing;
18 danksaget bei allem. Denn das ist Gottes Wille in Christus Jesus über euch.
in every thing give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
19 Löschet den Geist nicht,
Quench not the Spirit.
20 verachtet die Prophetie nicht.
Despise not prophesyings.
21 Prüfet alles, behaltet das Gute.
Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
22 Meidet alle böse Art.
Abstain from every appearance of evil.
23 Er aber, der Gott des Friedens, heilige euch durch und durch, und euer Geist unversehrt, und die Seele und der Leib werde bewahrt ohne Tadel bei der Ankunft unseres Herrn Jesus Christus.
Now the God of peace himself sanctify you wholly; and may your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 Treu ist der, der euch beruft; er wird es auch ausführen.
Faithful is he that calls you; and he will do what he has promised.
25 Betet für uns Brüder.
Brethren, pray for us.
26 Grüßet die Brüder alle mit dem heiligen Kuß.
Salute all the brethren with a holy kiss.
27 Ich beschwöre euch bei dem Herrn, diesen Brief den Brüdern allen vorlesen zu lassen.
I adjure you by the Lord, that this letter be read to all the holy brethren.
28 Die Gnade unseres Herrn Jesus Christus mit euch.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
