1 Thessalonicher 3

1 Darum, wie wir es nicht mehr aushielten, beschlossen wir in Athen allein zurückzubleiben,

Therefore, no longer covering over it, we preferred to be left behind in Athens alone.

2 und sandten den Timotheus, unseren Bruder und Gehilfen Gottes am Evangelium des Christus, euch zu befestigen und zu ermahnen von wegen eures Glaubens,

And we sent Timothy, our brother, and a helper of God, and our fellow workman in the good news of the Christ, in order to establish you and to encourage you about your faith,

3 auf daß keiner sich irre machen lasse unter diesen Drangsalen.

for no man to be disturbed by these afflictions. For ye yourselves know that we are set for this.

4 Wisset ihr doch selbst, daß wir dazu bestimmt sind; haben wir es doch auch, als wir bei euch waren, euch vorausgesagt, daß uns Drangsale bevorstehen, wie es denn auch gekommen und euch kund ist.

For also when we were with you we foretold you that we were going to be oppressed, just as it also happened, and ye know.

5 Darum eben hielt ich es nicht mehr aus und schickte hin um Kunde von eurem Glauben, ob euch nicht der Versucher versucht habe, und unsere Arbeit vergeblich geworden sei.

Because of this, I too, no longer covering over it, sent in order to know your faith, lest somehow he who tempts was tempting you, and our labor became in vain.

6 Nun aber, da Timotheus von euch zu uns gekommen ist, und gute Botschaft gebracht hat von eurem Glauben und eurer Liebe, und daß ihr uns allezeit in gutem Andenken habt, und Verlangen habt nach uns wie wir nach euch,

But now of Timothy, having come to us from you, and having proclaimed good news to us of your faith and love, and that ye always have a good recollection of us, longing to see us, just as we also you,

7 da, meine Brüder, ist uns an euch durch euren Glauben Trost geworden für alle unsere Not und Bedrängnis;

because of this, brothers, we were encouraged toward you in all our affliction and necessity through your faith.

8 denn nun leben wir, wenn ihr aufrecht stehet im Herrn.

Because now we live, if ye stand firm in the Lord.

9 Ja, wie sollen wir Gott Dank bringen euretwegen über all der Freude, die wir um euretwillen haben vor unserem Gotte,

For what thanks can we repay God about you, for all the joy in which we rejoiced because of you before our God,

10 da wir Tag und Nacht nur dringend bitten können, euch wiedersehen und an eurem Glauben, was noch fehlen mag, berichtigen zu dürfen?

praying night and day above extraordinary in order to see your face and to mend the deficiencies of your faith?

11 Er aber, Gott unser Vater, und unser Herr Jesus wolle uns den Weg bahnen zu euch;

Now may our God and Father himself, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way to you.

12 euch aber wolle der Herr wachsen und reich werden lassen an der Liebe zu einander und zu allen, wie auch wir sie haben zu euch,

And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love toward each other, and toward all men, just as also we toward you,

13 zur Befestigung eurer Herzen, daß sie seien tadellos in der Heiligkeit vor Gott unserem Vater bei der Ankunft unseres Herrn Jesus mit allen seinen Heiligen, Amen.

in order to establish your hearts unblameable in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his sanctified.
