1 Samuel 6
1 Nachdem sich so die Lade Jahwes sieben Monate im Gebiete der Philister befunden hatte,
Now the ark of the Lord was in the country of the Philistines for seven months.
2 beriefen die Philister die Priester und Wahrsager und sprachen: Was sollen wir mit der Lade Jahwes anfangen? Thut uns kund, auf welche Weise wir sie an ihren Ort schaffen sollen!
And the Philistines sent for the priests and those who were wise in secret arts, and said to them, What are we to do with the ark of the Lord? How are we to send it away to its place?
3 Sie erwiderten: Wollt ihr die Lade des Gottes Israels fortschaffen, so laßt sie nicht ohne Entgelt von dannen gehn, sondern erstattet ihr ein Sühngeschenk. Dann werdet ihr heil, und es wird euch kund werden, weshalb seine Hand nicht von euch abläßt.
And they said, If you send away the ark of the God of Israel, do not send it without an offering, but send him a sin-offering with it: then you will have peace again, and it will be clear to you why the weight of his hand has not been lifted from you.
4 Da fragten sie: Was für ein Sühngeschenk sollen wir ihr erstatten? Sie antworteten: Entsprechend der Zahl der Fürsten der Philister fünf goldene Pestbeulen und fünf goldene Mäuse; denn dieselbe Plage trifft euch wie eure Fürsten.
Then they said, What sin-offering are we to send to him? And they said, Five gold images of the growths caused by your disease and five gold mice, one for every lord of the Philistines: for the same disease came on you and on your lords.
5 So verfertigt denn Bilder eurer Pestbeulen und Bilder eurer Mäuse, die das Land verheeren, und gebt dem Gott Israels die Ehre: vielleicht läßt er dann seine Hand nicht länger auf euch lasten, sowie auf eurem Gott und Land.
So make images of the growths caused by your disease and of the mice which are damaging your land; and give glory to the God of Israel: it may be that the weight of his hand will be lifted from you and from your gods and from your land.
6 Wozu solltet ihr euch verstockt zeigen, wie die Ägypter und der Pharao sich verstockt zeigten? Nicht wahr, als er seinen Spott mit ihnen trieb, da ließen sie sie ziehen?
Why do you make your hearts hard, like the hearts of Pharaoh and the Egyptians? When he had made sport of them, did they not let the people go, and they went away?
7 Nun denn, schafft das Nötige herbei und verfertigt einen neuen Wagen, dazu nehmt zwei säugende Kühe, auf die noch kein Joch gekommen ist, spannt die Kühe an den Wagen und bringt ihre Kälber von ihnen weg nach Hause zurück.
So now, take and make ready a new cart, and two cows which have never come under the yoke, and have the cows yoked to the cart, and take their young ones away from them:
8 Sodann nehmt die Lade Jahwes und stellt sie auf den Wagen; die goldenen Gegenstände aber, die ihr ihr als Sühngeschenk erstattet habt, legt in ein Kästchen an ihrer Seite; dann laßt sie ihres Weges ziehen.
And put the ark of the Lord on the cart, and the gold images which you are sending as a sin-offering in a chest by its side; and send it away so that it may go.
9 Seht aber zu: wenn sie den Heimweg antritt hinauf nach Bethsemes, dann hat er uns dieses große Unheil zugefügt; wenn nicht, so wissen wir dann, daß nicht seine Hand uns getroffen hat: auf einem Zufall beruhte, was uns widerfahren ist!
If it goes by the land of Israel to Beth-shemesh, then this great evil is his work; but if not, then we may be certain that the evil was not his doing, but was the working of chance.
10 Da thaten die Leute so, nahmen zwei säugende Kühe und spannten sie an den Wagen; ihre Kälber aber hielten sie zu Hause zurück.
And the men did so; they took two cows, yoking them to the cart and shutting up their young ones in their living-place:
11 Sodann stellten sie die Lade Jahwes auf den Wagen samt dem Kästchen mit den goldenen Mäusen und den Bildern ihrer Geschwülste.
And they put the ark of the Lord on the cart and the chest with the gold images.
12 Die Kühe aber liefen geradeaus in der Richtung nach Bethsemes zu; immer gingen sie auf der gebahnten Straße, unaufhörlich brüllend, ohne nach rechts oder links abzubiegen. Die Fürsten der Philister aber folgten ihnen bis an das Gebiet von Bethsemes.
And the cows took the straight way, by the road to Beth-shemesh; they went by the highway, not turning to the right or to the left, and the sound of their voices was clear on the road; and the lords of the Philistines went after them as far as the edge of Beth-shemesh.
13 Die Leute von Bethsemes aber hielten eben die Weizenernte im Thalgrunde. Als sie nun aufsahen und die Lade erblickten, freuten sie sich ihrer Ankunft.
And the people of Beth-shemesh were cutting their grain in the valley, and lifting up their eyes they saw the ark and were full of joy when they saw it.
14 Als aber der Wagen zum Felde Josuas von Bethsemes gelangt war, blieb er dort stehen. Dort lag ein großer Stein. Da spalteten sie das Holz des Wagens und opferten die Kühe Jahwe als Brandopfer.
And the cart came into the field of Joshua the Beth-shemite, and came to a stop there by a great stone: and cutting up the wood of the cart they made a burned offering of the cows to the Lord.
15 Die Leviten aber nahmen die Lade Jahwes herab samt dem bei ihr befindlichen Kästchen, in welchem die goldenen Gegenstände lagen, und stellten sie auf den großen Stein. Die Leute von Bethsemes aber brachten Brandopfer und schlachteten Jahwe an jenem Tage Schlachtopfer.
Then the Levites took down the ark of the Lord and the chest in which were the gold images, and put them on the great stone: and the men of Beth-shemesh made burned offerings and gave worship that day before the Lord.
16 Und die fünf Fürsten der Philister sahen es mit an und kehrten sodann am gleichen Tage nach Ekron zurück.
And the five lords of the Philistines, having seen it, went back to Ekron the same day.
17 Folgendes sind die goldenen Pestbeulen, welche die Philister Jahwe als Sühngeschenk erstatteten: für Asdod eine, für Gaza eine, für Askalon eine, für Gath eine, für Ekron eine;
Now these are the gold images which the Philistines sent as a sin-offering to the Lord; one for Ashdod, one for Gaza, one for Ashkelon, one for Gath, one for Ekron;
18 dazu die goldenen Mäuse entsprechend der Zahl der Ortschaften der Philister unter den fünf Fürsten, sowohl der befestigten Städte, als der Bauerndörfer. Der große Stein, auf welchen sie die Lade Jahwes niedersetzten, ist bis auf den heutigen Tag Zeuge auf dem Felde Josuas von Bethsemes.
And the gold mice, one for every town of the Philistines, the property of the five lords, walled towns as well as country places: and the great stone where they put the ark of the Lord is still in the field of Joshua the Beth-shemite to this day.
19 Den Söhnen Jechonjas aber bekam es übel unter den Leuten von Bethsemes, daß sie sich die Lade Jahwes besehen hatten: er tötete von ihnen 70 Mann, 50000 Mann. Das Volk aber trauerte darüber, daß Jahwe unter dem Volk eine so große Niederlage angerichtet hatte.
But the Lord sent destruction on seventy men of the people of Beth-shemesh for looking into the ark of the Lord; and great was the sorrow of the people for the destruction which the Lord had sent on them.
20 Und die Leute von Bethsemes riefen aus: Wer vermag in der Nähe Jahwes, dieses heiligen Gottes, zu bestehen? Zu wem soll er nun von uns gehen?
And the men of Beth-shemesh said, Who is able to keep his place before the Lord, this holy God? and to whom may he go from us?
21 Da sandten sie Boten zu den Einwohnern von Kirjath Jearim und ließen ihnen sagen: Die Philister haben die Lade Jahwes zurückgebracht; kommt herab und holt sie zu euch herauf!
And they sent men to the people living in Kiriath-jearim, saying, The Philistines have sent back the ark of the Lord; come and take it up to your country.
