1 Samuel 13

1 Saul war....Jahre alt, als er König wurde, und herrschte....Jahre über Israel.

And Saul chooses for himself three thousand men of the men of Israel: and there were with Saul two thousand who were in Machmas, and in mount Baethel, and a thousand were with Jonathan in Gabaa of Benjamin: and he sent the rest of the people every man to his tent.

2 Saul wählte sich 3000 Mann aus Israel aus; davon waren 2000 bei Saul in Michmas und auf dem Gebirge von Bethel, 1000 aber bei Jonathan zu Gibea in Benjamin. Den Rest des Kriegsvolks entließ er, jedermann in seine Heimat.

3 Da zerschlug Jonathan die Säule der Philister, die in Geba stand. Da vernahmen die Philister die Kunde: die Hebräer sind abgefallen. Saul aber hatte inzwischen im ganzen Land umher die Posaune blasen lassen,

And Jonathan struck Nasib the Philistine that lived in the hill; and the Philistines hear of it, and Saul sounds the trumpet through all the land, saying, The servants have despised [us].

4 und ganz Israel hatte die Kunde vernommen: Saul hat die Säule der Philister zerschlagen, und nun ist Israel in Verruf geraten bei den Philistern. Und das Kriegsvolk wurde aufgeboten, Saul nach dem Gilgal zu folgen,

And all Israel heard say, Saul has struck Nasib the Philistine; now Israel had been put to shame before the Philistines; and the children of Israel went up after Saul in Galgala.

5 während sich die Philister schon zum Kriege mit Israel gesammelt hatten, 3000 Wagen und 6000 Reiter und Fußvolk so zahlreich wie der Sand am Ufer des Meers, und nun heranrückten und sich bei Michmas lagerten, gegenüber von Beth Aven.

And the Philistines gather together to war with Israel; and then come up against Israel thirty thousand chariots, and six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand by the seashore for multitude: and they come up, and encamp in Machmas, opposite Baethoron southward.

6 Als nun die israelitische Mannschaft sah, daß sie in die Enge geriet, weil sie bedrängt wurde, da verkroch sich das Volk in Höhlen, Erdlöchern, Felsspalten, Kellern und Gruben

And the men of Israel saw that they were in a strait so that they could not draw near, and the people hid themselves in caves, and sheepfolds, and rocks, and ditches, and pits.

7 und ging über die Jordanfurten ins Land Gad und Gilead. Saul jedoch war noch im Gilgal; alles Kriegsvolk aber hatte ihn aus Angst verlassen.

And they that went over went over Jordan to the land of Gad and Galaad: and Saul was yet in Galgala, and all the people followed after him in amazement.

8 Er wartete sieben Tage, bis zu dem Zeitpunkte, den Samuel bestimmt hatte; aber Samuel kam nicht nach dem Gilgal. Da sich aber die Leute von ihm verliefen,

And he continued seven days for the appointed testimony, as Samuel told him, and Samuel came not to Galgala, and his people were dispersed from him.

9 gebot Saul: Bringt mir das Brandopfer und die Heilsopfer her! und vollzog das Opfer.

And Saul said, Bring hither [victims], that I may offer whole burnt offerings and peace-offerings: and he offered the whole burnt offering.

10 Als er aber mit dem Darbringen des Opfers zu Ende war, da plötzlich erschien Samuel. Saul ging ihm entgegen, um ihn zu begrüßen.

And it came to pass when he had finished offering the whole burnt offering, that Samuel arrived, and Saul went out to meet him, [and] to bless him.

11 Samuel aber fragte: Was hast du gethan? Saul erwiderte: Ich sah, daß sich die Leute von mir verliefen; du aber trafst zur bestimmten Zeit nicht ein, obschon sich die Philister in Michmas versammelt hatten.

And Samuel said, What have you done? and Saul said, Because I saw how the people were scattered from me, and you was not present as you purposed according to the set time of the days, and the Philistines were gathered to Machmas.

12 Da dachte ich: Nun werden die Philister gegen mich ins Gilgal herabziehen, ehe ich noch Jahwe begütigt habe, und faßte mir ein Herz und vollzog das Opfer.

Then I said, Now will the Philistines come down to me to Galgala, and I have not sought the face of the Lord: so I forced myself and offered the whole burnt offering.

13 Da sprach Samuel zu Saul: Du warst ein Thor; du hast den Befehl, den dir Jahwe, dein Gott, gab, nicht befolgt; denn nun hätte Jahwe dein Königtum über Israel für immer bestätigt.

And Samuel said to Saul, You have done foolishly; for you have not kept my command, which the Lord commanded you, as now the Lord would have confirmed your kingdom over Israel for ever.

14 So aber wird dein Königtum keinen Bestand haben. Jahwe hat sich einen Mann nach seinem Herzen gesucht und hat ihn zum Fürsten über sein Volk bestellt. Denn du hast nicht befolgt, was dir Jahwe befohlen hatte!

But now your kingdom shall not stand to you, and the Lord shall seek for himself a man after his own heart; and the Lord shall appoint him to be a ruler over his people, because you have not kept all that the Lord commanded you.

15 Da machte sich Samuel auf, verließ das Gilgal und ging seines Wegs. Der Rest des Kriegsvolks aber zog hinter Saul her den Kriegern entgegen. Als sie aber vom Gilgal nach Gibea in Benjamin gekommen waren, da musterte Saul das Kriegsvolk, das ihm zu Gebote stand - etwa 600 Mann.

And Samuel arose, and departed from Galgala, and the remnant of the people went after Saul to meet [him] after the men of war, when they had come out of Galgala to Gabaa of Benjamin. And Saul numbered the people that were found with him, about six hundred men.

16 Saul und sein Sohn Jonathan verweilten mit den Leuten, die ihnen zu Gebote standen, zu Geba in Benjamin, während sich die Philister in Michmas gelagert hatten.

And Saul and Jonathan his son, and the people that were found with them, halted in Gabaa, of Benjamin; and they wept: and the Philistines had encamped in Machmas.

17 Da zog aus dem Lager der Philister eine plündernde Schar in drei Abteilungen aus:

And men came forth to destroy out of the land of the Philistines in three companies; one company turning by the way of Gophera towards the land of Sogal,

18 Die eine Abteilung schlug die Richtung gegen Ophra hin nach dem Lande Sual ein, die andere Abteilung schlug die Richtung nach Beth Horon ein, die dritte schlug die Richtung nach dem Hügel ein, der über dem Hyänenthal auf die Steppe hinabschaut.

and another company turning the way of Baethoron, and another company turning by the way of Gabae that turns aside to Gai of Sabim.

19 Ein Schmied aber fand sich im ganzen Lande Israel nicht (die Philister dachten nämlich: Die Hebräer möchten sich Schwerter oder Lanzen anfertigen!),

And there was not found a smith in all the land of Israel, for the Philistines said, Lest the Hebrews make themselves sword or spear.

20 vielmehr mußte aus ganz Israel jedermann zu den Philistern hinab, wenn er seine Pflugschar, seinen Karst, seine Axt und seinen Ochsenstachel schärfen lassen wollte,

And all Israel went down to the Land of the Philistines to forge every one his reaping-hook and his tool, and every one his axe and his sickle.

21 - mit den Pflugscharen und den Karsten und den dreizinkigen Gabeln und den Äxten, und um den Ochsenstachel gerade zu machen.

And it was near the time of vintage: and their tools were [valued at] three shekels for a ploughshare, and there was the same rate for the axe and the sickle.

22 So fand sich denn am Tage der Schlacht bei dem ganzen Kriegsvolke, das Saul und Jonathan bei sich hatten, weder Schwert noch Spieß vor; Saul aber und seinem Sohne Jonathan standen sie zu Gebote.

And it came to pass in the days of the war of Machmas, that there was not a sword or spear found in the hand of all the people, that were with Saul and Jonathan; but with Saul and Jonathan his son was there found.

23 Aber ein Posten der Philister rückte vor gegen den Paß von Michmas.

And there went out some from the camp of the Philistines to the place beyond Machmas.
