1 Chronik 19

1 Darnach ereignete es sich, daß Nahas, der König der Ammoniter, starb, und sein Sohn Hanun an seiner Stelle zur Regierung kam.

And it came to pass after this that Nahash king of the children of Ammon died, and his son reigned in his stead.

2 David dachte: Ich will mich gegen Hanun, den Sohn des Nahas, freundlich erzeigen, da sich sein Vater mir gegenüber freundlich erzeigt hat. So schickte denn David Gesandte, um ihm wegen seines Vaters Trost zusprechen zu lassen. Als nun Davids Hofbeamte ins Land der Ammoniter zu Hanun kamen, um ihm Trost zuzusprechen,

And David said, I will shew kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, because his father shewed kindness to me. And David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. And David's servants came into the land of the children of Ammon to Hanun, to comfort him.

3 sagten die Fürsten der Ammoniter zu Hanun: Glaubst du denn, daß David, indem er dir Tröster zusendet, deinem Vater eine Ehre erzeigen will? Sicher sind seine Beamten nur deshalb zu dir gekommen, um die Stadt zu erforschen und zu zerstören und das Land auszukundschaften?

And the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun, Is it, in thine eyes, to honour thy father that David has sent comforters to thee? Is it not to search and overthrow, and to spy out the land that his servants are come to thee?

4 Da ließ Hanun die Beamten Davids ergreifen, ließ sie scheren und ihnen die Kleider halb abschneiden, bis ans Gesäß, und schickte sie dann fort.

And Hanun took David's servants, and had them shaved, and their raiment cut off in the midst, as far as the hip, and sent them away.

5 Als man nun hinging und David in betreff der Männer Meldung that, sandte er ihnen entgegen - denn die Männer waren schwer beschimpft - und der König ließ ihnen sagen: Bleibt in Jericho; erst wann euch der Bart wieder gewachsen ist, kommt zurück!

And [certain] went and told David concerning the men; and he sent to meet them, for the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said, Abide at Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.

6 Als nun die Ammoniter merkten, daß sie sich bei David verhaßt gemacht hatten, schickten Hanun und die Ammoniter tausend Talente Silber, um sich von den Aramäern in Mesopotamien und den Aramäern von Maacha und von Zoba Wagen und Reiter zu erkaufen.

And the children of Ammon saw that they had made themselves odious to David; and Hanun and the children of Ammon sent a thousand talents of silver to hire them chariots and horsemen out of Mesopotamia, and from the Syrians of Maacah, and from Zobah.

7 So erkauften sie sich 32000 Wagen und den König von Maacha mit seinen Truppen; die kamen und lagerten sich vor Medeba. Und die Ammoniter versammelten sich aus ihren Städten und rückten zum Kampfe aus.

And they hired thirty-two thousand chariots, and the king of Maacah and his people; and they came and encamped before Medeba. And the children of Ammon gathered together from their cities, and came to battle.

8 Als David davon hörte, schickte er Joab mit dem ganzen Heere der Gibborim hin.

And David heard [of it], and he sent Joab, and all the host, the mighty men.

9 Aber die Ammoriter rückten aus und stellten sich am Eingange der Stadt in Schlachtordnung auf, während die Könige, die herbeigekommen waren, für sich auf freiem Felde standen.

And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the entrance of the city; and the kings that had come were by themselves on the field.

10 Als nun Joab sah, daß ihm sowohl von vorn wie von hinten ein Angriff drohe, traf er eine Auswahl aus allen Erlesenen in Israel und stellte sich den Aramäern gegenüber.

And Joab saw that the front of the battle was against him before and behind; and he chose out of all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians;

11 Den Rest des Kriegsvolks hingegen übergab er der Führung seines Bruders Absai, damit sie sich den Ammonitern gegenüberstellten.

and the rest of the people he gave into the hand of Abishai his brother, and they set themselves in array against the children of Ammon.

12 Dabei ordnete er an: Wenn die Aramäer mir überlegen sind, so mußt du mir zu Hilfe kommen; sind aber die Ammoniter dir überlegen, so werde ich dir helfen.

And he said, If the Syrians be too strong for me, then thou shalt help me; and if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will help thee.

13 Sei mannhaft und laß uns mannhaft auftreten für unser Volk und für die Städte unseres Gottes - Jahwe aber möge thun, was ihm wohlgefällt!

Be strong, and let us shew ourselves valiant for our people, and for the cities of our God; and Jehovah will do what is good in his sight.

14 So rückte denn Joab mit den Truppen, die er bei sich hatte, zum Kampfe gegen die Aramäer vor, und sie flohen vor ihm.

And Joab and the people that were with him drew near in front of the Syrians to the battle; and they fled before him.

15 Als aber die Ammoniter bemerkten, daß die Aramäer vor Joab flohen, da flohen auch sie vor seinem Bruder Absai und zogen sich in die Stadt zurück. Joab aber kehrte nach Jerusalem zurück.

And when the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians fled, they likewise fled before Abishai his brother, and entered into the city. And Joab came to Jerusalem.

16 Als nun die Aramäer sahen, daß sie von den Israeliten geschlagen waren, sandten sie Boten und ließen die Aramäer von jenseits des Stromes ausrücken, und Sophach, der Feldherr Hadaresers, stand an ihrer Spitze.

And when the Syrians saw that they were routed before Israel, they sent messengers, and drew forth the Syrians that were beyond the river; and Shophach the captain of the host of Hadarezer [went] before them.

17 Als das David hinterbracht wurde, bot er ganz Israels auf, überschritt den Jordan, gelangte nach Helam und stellte sich gegen sie auf. Da stellten sich auch die Aramäer in Schlachtordnung gegen David auf und lieferten ihm eine Schlacht.

And it was told David; and he gathered all Israel, and passed over the Jordan, and came upon them, and set [the battle] in array against them. And David put the battle in array against the Syrians, and they fought with him.

18 Aber die Aramäer flohen vor den Israeliten, und David tötete den Aramäern 7000 Wagenpferde und 40000 Mann Fußvolk; auch Sophach, den Feldherrn, tötete er.

And the Syrians fled from before Israel; and David slew of the Syrians seven thousand [in] chariots, and forty thousand footmen, and slew Shophach the captain of the host.

19 Als aber die Unterthanen Hadaresers sahen, daß sie von den Israeliten geschlagen waren, schlossen sie Frieden mit David und unterwarfen sich ihm, und die Aramäer hatten keine Lust, den Ammonitern ferner noch Hilfe zu leisten.

And the servants of Hadarezer saw that they were routed before Israel, and they made peace with David, and became his servants. And the Syrians would no more help the children of Ammon.
