Titus 2
1 Du aber predige, was der gesunden Lehre entspricht:
You, however, must teach what is consistent with healthy beliefs.
2 Die alten Männer sollen nüchtern sein, ehrbar, besonnen, gesund im Glauben, an Liebe und Geduld.
Older men shouldn't drink; they should be respectable and sensible, with a healthy trust in God, loving and patient.
3 Desgleichen sollen alte Frauen sich ehrfürchtig benehmen, nicht verleumderisch und nicht dem Trunk ergeben sein, ein Muster alles Guten,
Similarly older women ought to behave in a way that shows they live their lives for God. They shouldn't destroy people's reputations by what they say, and they shouldn't be addicted to wine.
4 damit sie die jungen Frauen anleiten, die Männer und die Kinder zu lieben,
They should be teachers of what's good, teaching the young wives to love their husbands and their children.
5 sittsam zu sein und züchtig, häuslich und gütig, ihren Gatten untertan, damit nicht das Wort Gottes gelästert werde.
They are to be sensible and pure, working in their homes, doing good and listening to what their husbands tell them. In this way the word of God will not be spoken about badly.
6 Geradeso ermahne die jungen Männer, Selbstbeherrschung zu zeigen in jeder Hinsicht.
Likewise tell the young men to be sensible.
7 Sei ihnen selber ein Vorbild guter Sitten. Beim Lehren zeige Lauterkeit und Würde.
You should set an example of doing good in all areas of life: show integrity and seriousness in what you teach,
8 Deine Worte seien gesund und unangreifbar, damit der Gegner beschämt werde, wenn er nichts Böses nachsagen kann.
sharing healthy beliefs that can't be criticized. In this way those who are opposed will be ashamed of themselves and won't have anything bad to say about us.
9 Die Sklaven sollen ihren Herren in allem untertänig sein, gefällig, ohne Widerspruch.
Tell servants to always obey their masters. They should try to please them and not talk back to them.
10 Sie sollen nichts veruntreuen, vielmehr volle und gediegene Treue zeigen, damit sie der Lehre Gottes, unseres Heilandes, in allem Ehre machen.
They shouldn't steal things for themselves, but show they are completely trustworthy so that they may rightly represent the truth about God our Savior in every way.
11 Erschienen ist ja die Gnade Gottes, die allen Menschen Heil verleiht.
For God's grace has been revealed, bringing salvation to everyone.
12 Sie erzieht uns dazu, daß wir der Gottlosigkeit und den weltlichen Gelüsten entsagen, besonnen, gerecht und fromm in der jetzigen Welt leben. (aiōn g165)
It teaches us to reject a godless way of life with the desires of this world. Instead we should live thoughtful, self-controlled lives that are right before God in the present world (aiōn g165)
13 Dabei erwarten wir die beseligende Hoffnung und die Erscheinung der Herrlichkeit unseres großen Gottes und Heilandes Christus Jesus,
as we look for the wonderful hope of the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.
14 der sich selber für uns dahingegeben hat, um uns von aller Ungerechtigkeit zu erlösen und sich ein reines Volk als Eigentum zu schaffen, das voll Eifer ist zu guten Werken.
He gave himself for us, so that he could set us free from all our wickedness, and to make us clean for him—a people who belong to him, keen to do good.
15 So predige und mahne und weise zurecht mit aller Entschiedenheit. Niemand soll dich verachten.
This is what you should be teaching. You have the authority to encourage and to correct as necessary. Don't let anyone look down on you.
