1 Gerechtfertigt aus dem Glauben leben wir also mit Gott im Frieden durch unseren Herrn Jesus Christus.

2 Durch ihn haben wir kraft des Glaubens den Zutritt zu der großen Gnade erlangt, in der wir uns befinden, und rühmen uns der Hoffnung, die göttliche Verklärung zu erlangen.

3 Doch nicht darob allein wollen wir uns rühmen, nein, auch der Trübsal. Wir wissen: Die Trübsal macht starkmütig;

6 Ist doch Christus, weil wir kraftlos waren, für uns, die Gottlosen, zur rechten Zeit gestorben.

7 Kaum stirbt jemand für einen Gerechten; für einen Freund bringt man es vielleicht noch über sich zu sterben.

8 Gott aber zeigt uns seine Liebe dadurch, daß Christus für uns gestorben ist, da wir noch Sünder waren.

9 Wir werden demnach um so mehr, da wir in seinem Blute jetzt gerechtfertigt sind, durch ihn vor dem Zorne gerettet werden.

10 Denn wurden wir mit Gott durch den Tod seines Sohnes versöhnt, als wir noch Feinde waren, so werden wir noch viel mehr Rettung finden als Versöhnte in seinem Leben.

12 Wie also durch einen Menschen die Sünde in die Welt kam und durch die Sünde der Tod und so der Tod auf alle Menschen überging, weil alle ja gesündigt hatten, -

13 auch vor dem Gesetze gab es schon Sünde in der Welt; nur war die Sünde nicht angerechnet, als das Gesetz noch nicht gegeben war.

15 Jedoch verhält es sich mit der Begnadigung nicht so wie mit dem Sündenfall. - Wenn also durch den Fall des einen Menschen die vielen dem Tode verfallen waren, so ist viel mehr noch Gottes Gnade sowie die Gnadengabe des einen Menschen Jesus Christus vielen überreichlich zugeströmt.

16 Auch mit der Gnadengabe verhält es sich nicht so wie mit der Sünde, die von einem Menschen kommt. Denn das Gericht kam wegen einer Übertretung und führte zur Verdammung, die Begnadigung aber führte aus vielen Sünden zur Rechtfertigung.

17 Denn wenn durch die Sünde des einen der Tod eben wegen dieses einen herrschte, dann werden um so mehr die, die den Überfluß der Gnade und des Geschenkes der Gerechtigkeit empfangen, im Leben herrschen durch den einen Jesus Christus.

18 Wie also durch den Fall des einen über die gesamte Menschheit die Verdammung kam, so kommt auch durch die rechtfertigende Tat des "Einen" über die gesamte Menschheit die lebenspendende Rechtfertigung.

20 Das Gesetz kam nur deswegen dazu, damit sich die Sünde häufe. Doch als die Sünde sich gehäuft hatte, ward die Gnade noch viel mächtiger,
