1 Auf den Siegesspender, für den öffentlichen Gottesdienst, ein Vortrag, von Asaph, ein Lied. Horch auf, Du Hirte Israels, der Du die Herde Josephs leitest und thronest über Cherubim! Erscheine!
For the chief musician, set to the Shoshannim Eduth style. A psalm of Asaph. Pay attention, Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock; you who sit above the cherubim, shine on us!
2 Vor Ephraim, Manasse, Benjamin entfalte Deine Macht! Komm uns zu Hilfe!
In the sight of Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh, stir up your power; come and save us.
3 Bereit uns Heimkehr, Gott, Dein Angesicht laß leuchten, damit Heil uns werde! -
God, restore us; make your face shine on us, and we will be saved.
4 Herr, Gott der Heeresscharen! Wie lange zürnst Du trotz dem Flehen Deines Volkes?
Yahweh God of hosts, how long will you be angry at your people when they pray?
5 Du speisest sie mit Tränenbrot und schenkst nur kärglich Maß in Tränen ihnen ein.
You have fed them with the bread of tears and given them tears to drink in great quantities.
6 Du gibst uns preis der Spottsucht unserer Nachbarn, und unsere Feinde spotten unter sich. -
You make us something for our neighbors to argue over, and our enemies laugh about us among themselves.
7 Herr, Gott der Heeresscharen! Führ uns heim und laß Dein Antlitz leuchten, auf daß Heil uns werde!
God of hosts, restore us; make your face shine on us, and we will be saved.
8 Du hobst Dir aus Ägypten einen Weinstock aus, vertriebest Heiden, pflanztest ihn an ihre Stätte.
You brought a vine out of Egypt; you drove out nations and transplanted it.
9 Du gabst ihm Raum, so daß er Wurzeln schlug und sich im Lande dehnte.
You cleared the land for it; it took root and filled the land.
10 Sein Schatten deckte Berge und sein Gezweig die Zedern Gottes.
The mountains were covered with its shade, the cedars of God by its branches.
11 Er dehnte seine Ranken bis ans Meer und seine Schößlinge bis zu dem Strom.
It sent out its branches as far as the sea and its shoots to the Euphrates River.
12 Warum reißt Du jetzt seine Zäune ein, daß ihn zerpflückt, was da vorüberzieht?
Why have you broken down its walls so that all who pass by along the road pluck its fruit?
13 Des Waldes Eber wühlt ihn durch; abweidet ihn das Wildschwein. -
The boars out of the forest ruin it, and the beasts of the field feed on it.
14 Halt ein, Du Gott der Heeresscharen! Blick nieder aus dem Himmel, sieh! Nach Deinem Weinstock schau!
Turn back, God of hosts; look down from heaven and take notice and take care of this vine.
15 Will sagen: nach dem Sprößlinge, den Deine Rechte eingepflanzt, und nach dem Sohn, den Du Dir aufgezogen! -
This is the root that your right hand planted, the shoot that you made to grow.
16 Er ist vom Feuer ganz verbrannt, zerwühlt; vom Dräuen Deines Angesichts kam das Verderben.
It has been burned and cut down; they perish because of your rebuke.
17 Auf diesem Manne ruhe Deine Hand und Deine Rechte auf dem Menschensohn, den Du Dir aufgezogen!
May your hand be on the man of your right hand, on the son of man whom you made strong for yourself.
18 Wir lassen nimmermehr von Dir. Erhalte uns am Leben! Und wir lobpreisen Deinen Namen.
Then we will not turn away from you; revive us, and we will call on your name.
19 Herr, Gott der Heeresscharen! Bereit uns Heimkehrund laß Dein Antlitz leuchten, auf daß Heil uns werde!
