Psalm 76
1 Auf den Siegesspender, mit Zithern, ein Lied, von Asaph, ein Gesang. Berühmt ist Juda Gottes wegen, und wegen Israels ist groß sein Name.
“For the leader of the music. Upon stringed instruments. A Psalm of Asaph.” In Judah is God known; Great is his name in Israel.
2 Zu Salem sein Gezelt, in Sion seine Thronstadt!
In Jerusalem is his tabernacle, And in Zion his dwelling-place.
3 Des Bogens Blitze ließ er hier zusammenbrechen, Schild, Schwert und andere Kriegerwaffen. (Sela)
There brake he the lightning of the bow, The shield, the sword, and all the weapons of battle.
4 Du bist so herrlich und so schrecklich auf zweigbedeckten Bergen.
More glorious and excellent art thou Than those mountains of robbers!
5 Zur Beute fielen Mutige, als ob sie schliefen, und all die tapferen Krieger fanden keine Kräfte mehr.
Spoiled are the stout-hearted; They sank into their sleep; The hands of the mighty were powerless.
6 Vor Deinem Drohen, Jakobs Gott, da werden die zu Wagen und zu Roß betäubt.
Before thy rebuke, O God of Jacob! Fell chariot and horseman into a deep sleep!
7 Du bist so furchtbar, Du. Zürnst Du, wer kann vor Dir bestehen?
Thou, thou, O God! art terrible! Who can stand before thee in thine anger?
8 Vom Himmel lässest Du Vergeltung künden; die Erde staunt und schweigt,
Thou didst cause judgment to be heard from heaven; The earth trembled and was still,
9 wenn Du Dich zum Gericht erhebst, o Gott, zu helfen allen Duldern in dem Lande. (Sela)
When God arose to judgment, To save all the oppressed of the earth!
10 Dich preist der Menschen Menge; der Massen Rest hüllt sich in Bußgewänder. -
The wrath of man shall praise thee, When thou girdest on the whole of thy wrath!
11 Gelobet nur und löst es ein, dem Herren, eurem Gott! Wer immer um ihn ist, soll Gaben ihm, dem Furchtbaren, darbringen.
Make and perform vows to Jehovah, your God! Let all that dwell around him bring gifts to the terrible One,
12 Er bricht der Fürsten Übermut, und fürchterlich ist er den Königen der Erde.
Who casteth down the pride of princes, Who is terrible to the kings of the earth!
