Psalm 20

1 Auf den Siegesspender, ein Lied, von David. Der Herr erhöre dich noch an dem Tag der Not! Des Gottes Jakobs Name schütze dich!

For the Leader. A Psalm of David. The LORD answer thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob set thee up on high;

2 Er sende aus dem Heiligtum dir Hilfe und stütze dich von Sion her!

Send forth thy help from the sanctuary, and support thee out of Zion;

3 Er nehme an all deine Opfergaben und freue sich an deinen Brandopfern! (Sela)

Receive the memorial of all thy meal-offerings, and accept the fat of thy burnt-sacrifice; (Selah)

4 Er gebe dir, was nur dein Herz begehrt; und lasse alle deine Pläne wohl gelingen!

Grant thee according to thine own heart, and fulfil all thy counsel.

5 Dann jauchzen wir ob deines Sieges und jubeln laut in unseres Gottes Namen. Der Herr erfülle dir die Wünsche all! -

We will shout for joy in thy victory, and in the name of our God we will set up our standards; the LORD fulfil all thy petitions.

6 jetzt weiß ich es: Der Herr hilft dem, den er gesalbt, erhört ihn von dem heiligen Himmel her mit hilfereichen Taten seiner Rechten.

Now know I that the LORD saveth His anointed; He will answer him from His holy heaven with the mighty acts of His saving right hand.

7 Sind jene noch so stolz auf Wagen und auf Rosse, wir sind es auf den Namen unsres Herrn und Gottes.

Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will make mention of the name of the LORD our God.

8 Sie krümmen sich und stürzen hin; wir aber stehen wieder auf.

They are bowed down and fallen; but we are risen, and stand upright.

9 Herr, hilf dem Königund höre uns, sooft wir rufen!

Save, LORD; let the King answer us in the day that we call.
