Psalm 18
1 Auf den Siegesspender, von des Herrn Knecht, von David, der dem Herrn zu Ehren dieses Lied gedichtet, als ihn der Herr aus der Gewalt aller seiner Feinde und besonders Sauls errettet hatte. Er sprach: "Ich liebe, Herr, Dich herzlich, meine Stärke." -
To him that excelleth. A Psalme of Dauid the seruant of the Lord, which spake unto the Lord the wordes of this song (in the day that the Lord delivered him for the hande of all this enemies, and form the and of saul) and sayd, I will loue thee dearely, O Lord my strength.
2 Der Herr ist mir ein Fels und eine Rettungsburg; mein Gott, mein Hort, wo ich mich berge, mein Schild, mein sieghaft Horn und meine Feste.
The Lord is my rocke, and my fortresse, and he that deliuereth me, my God and my strength: in him will I trust, my shield, the horne also of my saluation, and my refuge.
3 "Gepriesen sei der Herr!" darf ich nur rufen und bin von meinen Feinden schon erlöst.
I will call vpon the Lord, which is worthie to be praysed: so shall I be safe from mine enemies.
4 Schon hatten Todesfluten mich umgeben; mich schreckten des Verderbens Ströme.
The sorowes of death compassed me, and the floods of wickednes made me afraide.
The sorowes of the graue haue compassed me about: the snares of death ouertooke me. (Sheol h7585)
6 Da rief ich in der Not zum Herrn und schrie zu meinem Gott um Hilfe. Er hört in seinem Tempel meine Stimme, und mein Geschrei dringt ihm zu Ohren. -
But in my trouble did I call vpon the Lord, and cryed vnto my God: he heard my voyce out of his Temple, and my crye did come before him, euen into his eares.
7 Die Erde ward erschüttert und sie bebte; der Berge Festen zitterten; sie wankten. Denn er war ergrimmt.
Then the earth trembled, and quaked: the foundations also of the mountaines mooued and shooke, because he was angrie.
8 Aufquoll' aus seiner Nase Rauch; aus seinem Munde sprühte Feuer, und eine Glut ward von ihm ausgesprüht.
Smoke went out at his nostrels, and a consuming fire out of his mouth: coales were kindled thereat.
9 Den Himmel neigte er und fuhr hernieder, ein tiefes Dunkel unter seinen Füßen.
He bowed the heauens also and came downe, and darkenes was vnder his feete.
10 Er fuhr auf einem Cherub, flog einher, auf Windesflügeln schwebend.
And he rode vpon Cherub and did flie, and he came flying vpon the wings of the winde.
11 Zur Hülle nahm er Dunkel rings um sich und Wasserflut und dicht Gewölke.
He made darkenes his secrete place, and his pauilion round about him, euen darkenesse of waters, and cloudes of the ayre.
12 Am Glanze seiner Nähe haben seine Wolken entzündet Hagel, Feuerströme.
At the brightnes of his presence his clouds passed, haylestones and coles of fire.
13 Der Herr im Himmel donnerte; der Höchste ließ die Stimme dröhnen; da gab es Hagelschauer, Feuergluten.
The Lord also thundred in the heauen, and the Highest gaue his voyce, haylestones and coales of fire.
14 Und seine Pfeile schoß er ab nach allen Seiten und warf die Blitze hin in regelloser Wahl.
Then hee sent out his arrowes and scattred them, and he increased lightnings and destroyed them.
15 Und Wasserströme zeigten sich; der Erde Gründe wurden bloßgelegt vor Deinem Drohen, Herr, vor Deinem Zornesschnauben. -
And the chanels of waters were seene, and the foundations of the worlde were discouered at thy rebuking, O Lord, at the blasting of the breath of thy nostrels.
16 Mich aber griff er aus der Höhe, faßte mich, und zog mich aus den mächtigen Gewässern,
He hath sent downe from aboue and taken mee: hee hath drawen mee out of many waters.
17 entriß mich meinen argen Feinden und meinen überlegenen Hassern,
He hath deliuered mee from my strong enemie, and from them which hate me: for they were too strong for me.
18 die mich an meinem Unglückstage überfielen. So wurde mir der Herr zur Stütze.
They preuented me in the day of my calamitie: but the Lord was my stay.
19 Er führte mich ins Freie hin, befreite mich, weil er an mir Gefallen fand,
Hee brought mee foorth also into a large place: hee deliuered mee because hee fauoured me.
20 vergalt mir so nach meiner Rechtlichkeit und lohnte mir nach meiner Hände Reinheit.
The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousnes: according to the purenes of mine hands he recompensed me:
21 Denn immer habe ich des Herren Wege eingehalten und nimmer gegen meinen Gott gefrevelt,
Because I kept the wayes of the Lord, and did not wickedly against my God.
22 behielt ich doch vor Augen alle seine Rechte, und seine Satzungen ließ ich nie aus dem Sinn.
For all his Lawes were before mee, and I did not cast away his commandements from mee.
23 Ich hatte mich ganz ungeteilt ergeben und suchte mich vor meiner Lieblingssünde zu bewahren.
I was vpright also with him, and haue kept me from my wickednes.
24 Darum vergalt der Herr mir auch nach meiner Rechtlichkeit, nach der ihm wohlbekannten Reinheit meiner Hände. -
Therefore the Lord rewarded me according to my righteousnesse, and according to the purenes of mine hands in his sight.
25 Du bist dem Frommen hold, dem Treugesinnten treu gesinnt,
With the godly thou wilt shewe thy selfe godly: with the vpright man thou wilt shew thy selfe vpright.
26 verfährst mit Reinem rein, doch böse mit dem Bösen.
With the pure thou wilt shewe thy selfe pure, and with the froward thou wilt shewe thy selfe froward.
27 Dem armen Volke stehst Du bei, die stolzen Blicke schlägst Du nieder.
Thus thou wilt saue the poore people, and wilt cast downe the proude lookes.
28 Du lässest ja mein Lichtlein leuchten, Du Herr, mein Gott, der meine Finsternis erhellt.
Surely thou wilt light my candle: the Lord my God wil lighten my darkenes.
29 Mit Dir anrenne ich die Wälle; mit meinem Gotte überspringe ich die Mauern.
For by thee I haue broken through an hoste, and by my God I haue leaped ouer a wall.
30 Truglos ist Gottes Weg; geläutert ist das Wort des Herrn, ein Schild für alle, die zu ihm sich flüchten.
The way of God is vncorrupt: the worde of the Lord is tried in the fire: he is a shield to all that trust in him.
31 Denn wer ist Gott, wenn nicht der Herr? Wer sonst ein Hort als unser Gott?
For who is God besides the Lord? and who is mightie saue our God?
32 Der Gott, der mich mit Stärke gürtet und meinen Weg gefahrlos macht,
God girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way vpright.
33 der meine Füße macht wie die der Rehe, mich sicher stellt auf meinen Höhen,
He maketh my feete like hindes feete, and setteth me vpon mine high places.
34 der meine Hände kämpfen lehrt und meine Arme eherne Bogen spannen läßt.
He teacheth mine hands to fight: so that a bowe of brasse is broken with mine armes.
35 Du reichst mir Deinen Siegesschild, und Deine Rechte stützt mich, und Deine Stärkung macht mich kräftig.
Thou hast also giuen me the shield of thy saluation, and thy right hand hath stayed me, and thy louing kindenes hath caused me to increase.
36 Und meinen Schritten gibst Du weiten Raum, und meine Knöchel wanken nicht.
Thou hast enlarged my steps vnder mee, and mine heeles haue not slid.
37 Ich setze meinen Feinden nach und greife sie und kehre nicht zurück, bis daß ich sie vernichtet.
I haue pursued mine enemies, and taken them, and haue not turned againe till I had consumed them.
38 Ich schlage sie, daß sie sich nimmermehr erheben; sie liegen unter meinen Füßen.
I haue wounded them, that they were not able to rise: they are fallen vnder my feete.
39 Du gürtest mich mit Kraft zum Kampfe, und meine Gegner beugst Du unter mich.
For thou hast girded me with strength to battell: them, that rose against me, thou hast subdued vnder me.
40 Und meiner Feinde Rücken zeigst Du mir, daß ich vertilge meine Hasser.
And thou hast giuen me the neckes of mine enemies, that I might destroy them that hate me.
41 Sie rufen - niemand hilft - zum Herrn, er hört sie nicht.
They cryed but there was none to saue them, euen vnto the Lord, but hee answered them not.
42 Und ich zermalme sie wie Staub vorm Winde, zerstampfe sie gleich Gassenkot.
Then I did beate them small as the dust before the winde: I did treade them flat as the clay in the streetes.
43 Du rettest mich vor Tausenden von Kriegervölkern; zum Haupt von Heiden machst Du mich, mir unbekannte Leute dienen mir.
Thou hast deliuered me from the contentions of the people: thou hast made me the head of the heathen: a people, whom I haue not knowen, shall serue me.
44 Des Auslands Söhne schmeicheln mir; aufs Hörensagen leisten sie mir schon Gehorsam,
As soone as they heare, they shall obey me: the strangers shall be in subiection to me.
45 und andere Fremdlinge verschwinden und sitzen zitternd in Verstecken. -
Strangers shall shrinke away, and feare in their priuie chambers.
46 Lebendig ist der Herr und hochgepriesen als mein Hort, steht hoch da als mein hilfereicher Gott. -
Let the Lord liue, and blessed be my strength, and the God of my saluation be exalted.
47 Gott, der Du mir verhilfst zur Rache und Völker mir zu Füßen legst,
It is God that giueth me power to auenge me, and subdueth the people vnder me.
48 der Du vor meinen Feinden mich errettest, Du machst mich meinen Gegnern fürder unerreichbar und rettest mich vor Wüterichen.
O my deliuerer from mine enemies, euen thou hast set mee vp from them, that rose against me: thou hast deliuered mee from the cruell man.
49 Dafür lobpreise ich Dich bei den Heiden, Herr, und singe also Deinem Namen:
Therefore I will prayse thee, O Lord, among the nations, and wil sing vnto thy Name.
50 Heilvoller Turm für seinen König, der David, den er salbte, Huld erweist, und seinem Stamme ewiglich.
Great deliuerances giueth hee vnto his King, and sheweth mercie to his anoynted, euen to Dauid, and to his seede for euer.
