1 Die väterliche Mahnung, Söhne, hört! Merkt auf, damit ihr Einsicht kennenlernt!
Heare, O ye children, the instruction of a father, and giue eare to learne vnderstanding.
2 Denn gute Lehre geb ich euch. Laßt meine Unterweisung nimmer außer acht!
For I doe giue you a good doctrine: therefore forsake yee not my lawe.
3 Als Kind schon war ich meinem Vater teuer, ein Liebling meiner Mutter.
For I was my fathers sonne, tender and deare in the sight of my mother,
4 Er unterwies mich, sprach zu mir: "Halt fest dein Herz an meinen Worten! Behalt, was ich dich heiße! Und du wirst glücklich sein.
When he taught me, and sayde vnto me, Let thine heart holde fast my woordes: keepe my commandements, and thou shalt liue.
5 Einsicht und Weisheit zu erwerben, nicht vergiß! Weich nicht von meines Mundes Worten:
Get wisedom: get vnderstading: forget not, neither decline from the woordes of my mouth.
6 Laß sie nicht außer acht! Und sie behütet dich. Gewinne sie recht lieb! Sie schützt dich wohl.
Forsake her not, and shee shall keepe thee: loue her and shee shall preserue thee.
7 Der Weisheit bester Teil: Erkaufe Weisheit! Mit aller deiner Habe kauf dir Einsicht!
Wisedome is the beginning: get wisedome therefore: and aboue all thy possession get vnderstanding.
8 Halt dich an sie! Und sie erhöht dich, bringt zu Ehren dich, wenn du sie herzest.
Exalt her, and she shall exalt thee: she shall bring thee to honour, if thou embrace her.
9 Sie windet um dein Haupt der Anmut Kranz, beschert dir eine wunderschöne Krone."
She shall giue a comely ornamet vnto thine head, yea, she shall giue thee a crowne of glorie.
10 Mein Sohn! Horch auf! Nimm meine Worte an! Dann werden's deiner Lebensjahre viele.
Heare, my sonne, and receiue my wordes, and the yeeres of thy life shalbe many.
11 Ich lehre dich der Weisheit Weg und lasse dich auf graden Pfaden schreiten.
I haue taught thee in ye way of wisedom, and led thee in the pathes of righteousnesse.
12 Wenn du einherschreitest, ist nicht dein Schritt beengt; bist du im Lauf, dann stößest du nicht an.
Whe thou goest, thy gate shall not be strait, and when thou runnest, thou shalt not fall.
13 Halt fest an dieser Richtschnur! Laß sie nimmer los: Sie ist dein Leben.
Take holde of instruction, and leaue not: keepe her, for shee is thy life.
14 Nicht wandle auf der Frevler Pfad! Beschreite nicht der Bösen Weg!
Enter not into the way of the wicked, and walke not in the way of euill men.
15 Vermeide ihn! Begeh ihn nicht! Lenk von ihm weg! Und geh daran vorbei!
Auoide it, and goe not by it: turne from it, and passe by.
16 Sie können gar nicht einschlafen, falls sie zuvor nicht Böses schon getan; geraubt ist ihnen jeder Schlaf, falls sie nicht Ärgernis gegeben.
For they can not sleepe, except they haue done euill, and their sleepe departeth except they cause some to fall.
17 Sie nähren sich vom Brot der Gottlosigkeit und trinken der Gewalttat Wein.
For they eate the breade of wickednesse, and drinke the wine of violence.
18 Der Frommen Pfad gleicht lichtem Morgenglanz, der immer heller wird, bis daß es Tag geworden.
But the way of the righteous shineth as the light, that shineth more and more vnto the perfite day.
19 Der Frevlerweg ist wie das Dunkel: Sie merken nicht, was sie zu Falle bringt.
The way of the wicked is as the darkenes: they knowe not wherein they shall fall.
20 Mein Sohn, auf meine Worte merk, und meinen Reden neig dein Ohr!
My sonne, hearken vnto my wordes, incline thine eare vnto my sayings.
21 Laß sie nicht aus den Augen! Bewahre sie im Innersten des Herzens!
Let them not depart from thine eyes, but keepe them in the middes of thine heart.
22 Denn Leben sind sie ja für die, die sie zu schätzen wissen, für ihren ganzen Körper Arzenei.
For they are life vnto those that find them, and health vnto all their flesh.
23 Bewahr vor jeglicher Verstocktheit dir das Herz! Denn davon hängt das Leben ab.
Keepe thine heart with all diligence: for thereout commeth life.
24 Dein Mund soll niemals trügen, und deine Lippen seien keine Lügenlippen.
Put away from thee a froward mouth, and put wicked lippes farre from thee.
25 Dann kannst du deinem Gegenüber ruhig ins Auge sehn, ganz offen deinem Nächsten in das Auge blicken.
Let thine eyes beholde the right, and let thine eyelids direct thy way before thee.
26 Geh stets geradeaus! Auf deines Fußes Bahn hab acht! Sei deines Ziels gewiß! All deine Wege seien fest bestimmt!
Ponder the path of thy feete, and let all thy waies be ordred aright.
27 Bieg nicht zur rechten noch zur linken Seite ab! Halt fern vom Bösen deinen Fuß!
Turne not to the right hande, nor to the left, but remooue thy foote from euill.
