Sprueche 25
1 Auch dies sind Sprüche Salomos, die aufgezeichnet von den Männern Hizkias, des Herrschers über Juda.
These [are] also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.
2 Für Gott ist's eine Ehre, geheimnisvolle Worte auszusprechen; dagegen ist es eine Ehre für die Könige, Befehle unzweideutig auszugeben.
[It is] the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honor of kings [is] to search out a matter.
3 Gleichwie des Himmels Höhe und der Erde Tiefe, so unerforschlich ist auch eines Königs Herz.
The heaven for hight, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings [is] unsearchable.
4 Entfernt man Schlacken aus dem Silber, dann gelingt dem Goldschmied ein Gefäß.
Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.
5 Entferne Frevler aus des Königs Dienst, dann hat sein Thron Bestand durch die Gerechtigkeit.
Take away the wicked [from] before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
6 Vor einem König prunke nicht! Tritt nimmer auf den Platz der Großen!
Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great [men]:
7 Weit besser, daß man zu dir sagt: "Rück doch herauf, hierher!", als daß man dich hinunterrücken läßt vor einem Vornehmern, wie du es selber schon gesehen haben magst.
For better [it is] that it be said to thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldst be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thy eyes have seen.
8 Voreilig fange keinen Streit an! Kannst du noch später etwas machen, wenn dich dein Freund beschämt?
Go not forth hastily to strive, lest [thou know not] what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbor hath put thee to shame.
9 Hast du mit deinem Freunde Streit, verrate niemals ein Geheimnis einem andern,
Debate thy cause with thy neighbor [himself]; and reveal not a secret to another:
10 daß er dich nicht verlästre, falls er's hört! Nicht kehrt ja deine üble Nachrede zurück.
Lest he that heareth [it] put thee to shame, and thy infamy turn not away.
11 Goldenen Äpfeln in Silberschalen gleicht ein Wort, zur rechten Zeit gesprochen.
A word fitly spoken [is like] apples of gold in pictures of silver.
12 Ein goldener Ring, ein Schmuck aus feinem Gold, das ist ein weiser Mahner für den aufmerksamen Hörer.
[As] an ear-ring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, [so is] a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.
13 Wie kühles Eis bei Erntehitze, so kann ein Bote, seinen Auftraggebern treu, das Leben seinem Herrn erhalten.
As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, [so is] a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.
14 Wie Wolken, Wind und doch kein Regen, so ist ein Mann, der mit Geschenken prahlt und sie nicht gibt.
Whoever boasteth himself of a false gift [is like] clouds and wind without rain.
15 Durch Milde wird ein Fürst begütigt; die sanfte Rede kann selbst Starres brechen.
By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.
16 Hast Honig du gefunden, iß soviel, wie du vertragen kannst! Sonst mußt du ihn erbrechen, hast du daran dich übersättigt.
Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled with it, and vomit it.
17 Laß deinen Fuß im Hause deines Nächsten selten sein, daß er nicht deiner überdrüssig werde und dich gleichgültig behandle!
Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbor's house; lest he be weary of thee, and [so] hate thee.
18 Was Keule und was Schwert und was ein scharfer Pfeil, das ist der Mensch, der gegen seinen Nächsten auftritt als ein falscher Zeuge.
A man that beareth false witness against his neighbor [is] a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.
19 Ein böser Zahn, ein kranker Fuß: das ist ein falscher Freund, auf den man sich verläßt am Tag der Not!
Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble [is like] a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.
20 Wie einer, der an kaltem Tag den Rock auszieht, wie Essig auf das Natron wirkt, ist einer, der mit Singenden bei traurigem Gemüte singt.
[As] he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, [and as] vinegar upon nitre; so [is] he that singeth songs to a heavy heart.
21 Wenn's deinen Hasser hungert, speise ihn mit Brot! Und wenn's ihn dürstet, tränke ihn mit Wasser!
If thy enemy shall hunger, give him bread to eat; and if he shall thirst, give him water to drink:
22 Denn damit scharrst du glühende Kohlen auf sein Haupt; der Herr vergilt es dir.
For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD will reward thee.
23 Der Nordwind hemmt den Regen, verdrießliches Gesicht die Zunge der Verleumdung.
The north wind driveth away rain: so [doth] an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.
24 Viel lieber in dem Winkel eines Daches ruhen, als ein gemeinsames Haus mit einem Weib, das zänkisch ist!
[It is] better to dwell in a corner of the house-top, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.
25 Was für die durstige Seele frisches Wasser, ist gute Nachricht aus der Ferne.
[As] cold waters to a thirsty soul, so [is] good news from a far country.
26 Getrübter Born, verderbte Quelle, das ist ein Frommer, der vor einem Frevler weicht.
A righteous man falling down before the wicked [is as] a turbid fountain, and a corrupt spring.
27 Nicht gut ist, zuviel Honig zu verzehren; in Menge davon zu erbrechen, eine Buße.
[It is] not good to eat much honey: so [for men] to search their own glory [is not] glory.
28 Was eine offne, mauerlose Stadt, das ist ein Mann, dem Selbstbeherrschung fehlt.
He that [hath] no rule over his own spirit [is like] a city [that is] broken down, [and] without walls.
