Sprueche 14
1 Ein Haus baut sich Frau Weisheit; die Torheit reißt's mit ihrer Hand zusammen.
The wisdom of women buildeth their house; but folly plucketh it down with her hands.
2 Wer in Geradheit wandelt, der hat Furcht vorm Herrn; wer krumme Wege geht, verachtet ihn.
He that walketh in his uprightness feareth Jehovah; but he that is perverted in his ways despiseth him.
3 Im Torenmund liegt eine Angelrute; den Weisen dienen ihre Lippen zur Bewahrung.
In the fool's mouth is a rod of pride; but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.
4 Wenn keine Rinder da, so bleibt die Krippe sauber; doch durch der Stiere Kraft wird reichlicher Ertrag.
Where no oxen are, the crib is clean; but much increase is by the strength of the ox.
5 Nicht trügt der Wahrheit Zeuge; doch Lügen spricht der falsche Zeuge.
A faithful witness will not lie; but a false witness uttereth lies.
6 Nach Weisheit sucht der Spötter, doch vergeblich; Erkenntnis ist für Kluge etwas Leichtes.
A scorner seeketh wisdom, and there is none [for him]; but knowledge is easy unto the intelligent.
7 Geh aus dem Weg dem Toren! Dann mußt du nicht Bekanntschaft mit dem Anwalt machen.
Go from the presence of a foolish man, in whom thou perceivest not the lips of knowledge.
8 Des Klugen Vorsicht ist es, auf den Weg zu achten; der Toren Leichtsinn bringt Enttäuschung.
The wisdom of the prudent is to discern his way; but the folly of the foolish is deceit.
9 Die Schuld vermittelt zwischen Schurken, und zwischen Redlichen der gute Wille.
Fools make a mock at trespass; but for the upright there is favour.
10 Das Herz kennt seinen Seelenschmerz am besten; und auch in seine Freude kann ein Fremder sich nicht mischen.
The heart knoweth its own bitterness, and a stranger doth not intermeddle with its joy.
11 Das Haus der Frevler wird vertilgt; der Redlichen Gezelt erblüht.
The house of the wicked shall be overthrown; but the tent of the upright shall flourish.
12 Gar mancher Weg dünkt einem Mann gerade; doch schließlich sind es Todeswege.
There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof is the ways of death.
13 Sogar beim Lachen kann das Herz sich grämen; der Freude Ende ist oft Gram.
Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful, and the end of mirth is sadness.
14 Der Eingebildete wird satt von seinen Wegen, der Tüchtige von seinen Werken.
The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways, and the good man from what is in himself.
15 Der Törichte traut jedem Ding; ein kluger Mann geht einer Sache auf den Grund.
The simple believeth every word; but the prudent [man] heedeth his going.
16 Der Weise fürchtet sich und meidet die Gefahr; der Tor geht eine Wette mit ihr ein und fühlt sich sicher.
A wise [man] feareth and departeth from evil; but the foolish is overbearing and confident.
17 Der Ungeduldige macht Törichtes; ein ränkevoller Mensch wird nur gehaßt.
He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly, and a man of mischievous devices is hated.
18 Die Toren haben Torheit im Besitz; der Klugen Diadem ist Einsicht.
The simple inherit folly; but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.
19 Vor Gutem müssen sich die Schlechten beugen, und Frevler sitzen an des Frommen Türen.
The evil bow before the good, and the wicked at the gates of the righteous [man].
20 Selbst seinem Freunde ist der Arme widerwärtig; doch derer, die den Reichen lieben, sind es viele.
He that is poor is hated even of his own neighbour; but the rich hath many friends.
21 Wer seinen Nächsten nicht beachtet, der versündigt sich; wohl dem, der sich der Elenden erbarmt!
He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth; but he that is gracious to the afflicted, happy is he.
22 Die Böses planen, täuschen sich auch gegenseitig; doch Lieb und Treue herrscht bei denen, die da Gutes planen.
Do they not err that devise evil? but loving-kindness and truth are for those that devise good.
23 Durch Arbeit nur schafft man Gewinn, doch bloßes Reden führt zu nichts.
In all labour there is profit; but the talk of the lips [tendeth] only to want.
24 Der Klugen Diadem ist ihre Klugheit; der Toren Diadem ist Torheit.
The crown of the wise is their riches; the folly of the foolish is folly.
25 Ein Lebensretter ist der Wahrheit Zeuge; wer Lügen spricht, bewirkt Enttäuschung.
A true witness delivereth souls; but deceit uttereth lies.
26 An Gottesfurcht besitzt man eine starke Burg; so kann man Schutz den eigenen Kindern bieten.
In the fear of Jehovah is strong confidence, and his children shall have a place of refuge.
27 Die Furcht des Herrn - ein Lebensborn, daß man des Todes Stricke meide.
The fear of Jehovah is a fountain of life, to turn away from the snares of death.
28 Des Königs Ruhm besteht in seines Volkes Massen; vom Leutemangel kommt des Fürsten Sturz.
In the multitude of people is the king's glory; but in the lack of people is the ruin of a prince.
29 Wer langmütig, ist reich an Einsicht; wer ungeduldig, steigert seine Torheit.
He that is slow to anger is of great understanding; but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.
30 Des Leibes Leben ist gelassener Sinn; wie Wurmfraß im Gebein ist Leidenschaft.
A sound heart is the life of the flesh; but envy the rottenness of the bones.
31 Wer den Geringen drückt, der lästert dessen Schöpfer; doch wer des Armen sich erbarmt, der gibt ihm Ehre.
He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker; but he that honoureth Him is gracious to the needy.
32 Der Frevler wird durch seine Schlechtigkeit gestürzt; der Fromme hat bei seinem Tod noch Hoffnung.
The wicked is driven away by his evil-doing; but the righteous trusteth, [even] in his death.
33 In eines Klugen Herzen ruht die Weisheit stille; sie wird verurteilt bei den Toren.
Wisdom resteth in the heart of the intelligent [man]; but that which is in the foolish maketh itself known.
34 Die Tugend führt ein Volk zur Höhe; Krebsschaden der Nationen ist das Laster.
Righteousness exalteth a nation; but sin is a reproach to peoples.
35 Die Huld des Königs sollte einem tüchtigen Diener werden; sein Grimm den Unbrauchbaren treffen!
The king's favour is toward a wise servant; but his wrath is [against] him that causeth shame.
