Philipper 2

1 Wenn ihr also auf christliche Ermahnung etwas haltet, auf liebevolles Zureden, auf die Gemeinschaft im Geist, auf herzliches Erbarmen,

IF there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,

2 so macht meine Freude voll und seid ein Herz in gleicher Liebe, im Sinnen und im Sorgen einig

Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.

3 und fern von Streit und eitler Ruhmsucht. In Demut achte jeder den anderen höher als sich selbst,

Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

4 keiner sei auf den eigenen Vorteil aus, vielmehr ein jeder auch auf den des Nächsten.

Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.

5 Hegt in euch dasselbe Sinnen, wie es Christus Jesus hatte.

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

6 Obwohl er sich in der Gestalt Gottes befand, wollte er dennoch nicht gewaltsam an seiner Gottesgleichheit festhalten,

Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

7 vielmehr entäußerte er sich, nahm Knechtsgestalt an und ward den Menschen ähnlich. Im Äußeren als Mensch erfunden,

But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

8 erniedrigte er sich selbst und ward gehorsam bis zum Tode, ja bis zum Tod am Kreuze.

And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

9 Darum hat ihn Gott auch so hoch erhoben und ihm den Namen gnädiglich verliehen, der über alle Namen ist:

Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

10 Im Namen Jesus sollen sich alle Knie beugen im Himmel, auf der Erde und in der Unterwelt,

That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

11 und jede Zunge soll laut bekennen zu Gottes, des Vaters, Herrlichkeit: Jesus Christus ist der Herr.

And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

12 Wohlan denn, meine Vielgeliebten! So wie ihr allezeit gehorsam waret, so wirkt nicht bloß, wenn ich zugegen bin, sondern noch viel mehr, solange ich fern bin, euer Heil mit Furcht und Zittern.

Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

13 Gott ist es ja, der in euch das Wollen und auch das Vollbringen zustande bringt nach seinem Wohlgefallen.

For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

14 Tut alles ohne Murren und Bedenken,

Do all things without murmurings and disputings:

15 damit ihr untadelig und unverdorben seid und Gotteskinder inmitten eines ganz verkehrten und verdorbenen Geschlechts, in dem ihr leuchtet wie die Sterne im Weltall.

That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

16 Haltet fest am Worte des Lebens, mir zum Ruhm am Tage Christi, damit ich nicht vergeblich gelaufen sei und mich nicht vergeblich abgemüht habe.

Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.

17 Doch wenn ich auch mein Blut vergießen muß zum Opfer und zur Weihe eures Glaubens, so bin ich dennoch froh und freue mich mit euch allen.

Yea, and if I be offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all.

18 Seid auch ihr darüber froh und freut euch mit mir!

For the same cause also do ye joy, and rejoice with me.

19 Im Herrn Jesus hoffe ich, daß ich euch den Timotheus bald senden kann. Dann werde ich wieder guten Mutes werden, sobald ich weiß, wie es um euch steht.

But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timotheus shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state.

20 Ich habe sonst keinen, der diesem gleichgesinnt und so aufrichtig für euch besorgt gewesen wäre.

For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state.

21 Alle anderen denken nur an sich und nicht an die Sache Christi Jesu.

For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ’s.

22 Ihr wisset, wie er sich bewährt hat; gleich wie ein Sohn dem Vater, so hat er mit mir dem Evangelium gedient.

But ye know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel.

23 Ihn also hoffe ich zu senden, sobald ich meine eigene Lage überschauen kann.

Him therefore I hope to send presently, so soon as I shall see how it will go with me.

24 Ich habe indessen die Zuversicht im Herrn, daß ich auch selbst bald kommen kann.

But I trust in the Lord that I also myself shall come shortly.

25 Doch hielt ich es für nötig, den Epaphroditus zu euch zu senden. Er ist mein Bruder, Mitarbeiter und mein Mitkämpfer; für euch ist er Apostel und Diener für alles, was ich brauche.

Yet I supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in labour, and fellowsoldier, but your messenger, and he that ministered to my wants.

26 Er war in Sehnsucht nach euch allen und in banger Sorge, weil ihr von seiner Krankheit gehört hattet.

For he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, because that ye had heard that he had been sick.

27 Er war tatsächlich todkrank; doch Gott erbarmte sich seiner, und nicht nur seiner, sondern auch meiner, damit ich nicht Trauer über Trauer hätte.

For indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.

28 Um so mehr beeile ich mich, ihn abzusenden, auf daß ihr die Freude des Wiedersehens habt und ich so einer Sorge ledig bin.

I sent him therefore the more carefully, that, when ye see him again, ye may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful.

29 So nehmt ihn denn im Herrn in aller Freude auf und haltet solche Männer wohl in Ehren.

Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness; and hold such in reputation:

30 Denn um des Werkes Christi willen kam er dem Tode nahe, und mutig wagte er sein Leben, um im Dienste für mich das zu ersetzen, was ihr nicht leisten konntet.

Because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.
