4 Mose 25

1 Israel aber saß zu Sittim. Da befleckte sich das Volk durch Unzucht mit den Töchtern Moabs.

And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit incest with the daughters of Moab.

2 Diese luden das Volk zu ihren Götteropfern ein. Da aß das Volk und warf sich vor ihren Göttern nieder.

And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed themselves down to their gods.

3 Und Israel paarte sich zu Ehren des Baal Peor. Da ward der Herr über Israel zornig.

And Israel joined themselves unto Baal-peor; and the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel.

4 Und der Herr sprach zu Moses: "Nimm dieses Volkes Rädelsführer und setze sie dem Herrn, im Angesicht der Sonne, aus, daß die Zornesglut des Herrn von Israel lasse!"

And the Lord said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and [cause them to] hang the [guilty] up before the Lord, in the face of the sun, that the fierce anger of the Lord may be turned away from Israel.

5 Da sprach Moses zu den Stämmen Israels: "Töte jeder seine Leute, die sich zu Ehren Baal-Peors gepaart!"

And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his men that have been joined unto Baal-peor.

6 Da kam eben ein israelitischer Mann und führte seinen Stammesgenossen eine gewisse Midianiterin zu, unter den Augen des Moses und der ganzen israelitischen Gemeinde, die an ihren Zelttüren ohne Unterlaß weinten.

And, behold, one of the children of Israel came, and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman, before the eyes of Moses, and before the eyes of all the congregation of the children of Israel, and these were weeping by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

7 Dies sah Eleazars Sohn Pinechas, der Enkel des Priesters Aaron. Da trat er aus der Gemeinde hervor und nahm einen Speer.

And when Phinehas, the son of Elazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from the midst of the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand;

8 Dann ging er dem israelitischen Manne in das innere Gemach nach und durchstach beiden, dem israelitischen Mann und dem Weibe, den Unterleib. Da ward dem Blutbad unter den Israeliten Einhalt getan.

And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her body: and the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.

9 Die Zahl der im Blutbad Gefallenen betrug 24.000.

And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand.

10 Da sprach der Herr zu Moses also:

And the Lord spoke unto Moses, saying,

11 "Pinechas, der Sohn des Eleazar, des Priesters Aaron Enkel, hat von den Israeliten meinen Grimm gewendet, mit meinem Eifer unter ihnen eifernd. Und so habe ich die Israeliten nicht in meinem Eifer aufgerieben.

Phinehas, the son of Elazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned away my wrath from the children of Israel, while he was zealous in my stead in the midst of them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my indignation.

12 Darum künde! Ich nehme ihn nachträglich in meinen Bund auf.

Therefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace;

13 Ihm und seinem Stamme nach ihm soll Priesterrecht für alle Zeit gesichert sein, dafür, daß er für seinen Gott geeifert und den Israeliten Sühne verschafft hat!"

And it shall be unto him and unto his seed after him a covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.

14 Der getötete israelitische Mann aber, der mit der Midianiterin erschlagen worden war, hieß Zimri, der Sohn Salus, des Fürsten einer Familie der Simeoniten.

Now the name of the man of Israel that was slain, who was slain with the Midianitish woman, was Zimri, the son of Sahlu, a prince of a family division among the Simeonites.

15 Und das getötete midianitische Weib hieß Kozbi, die Tochter Surs, des Sippenhäuptlings einer midianitischen Familie.

And the name of the Midianitish woman that was slain was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur; he was head of tribes, of a family division in Midian.

16 Der Herr sprach zu Moses:

And the Lord spoke unto Moses, saying,

17 "Befehdet die Midianiter! Schlagt sie!

Attack the Midianites and smite them;

18 Denn sie befehden euch durch ihre Ränke, mit denen sie euch durch Peor umgarnt haben, und durch ihre Schwester Kozbi, diese midianitische Fürstentochter, die am Tage des Blutbades getötet ward, das wegen Peor angerichtet wurde." - Es war nach dem Blutbad.

For they are enemies unto you with their wiles, wherewith they have beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of a prince of Midian, their sister, who was slain on the day of the plague for the sake of Peor.
