4 Mose 21
1 Da hörte der Kanaaniter, König von Arad, der im Südland saß, daß Israel auf dem Weg der Kundschafter komme. Da griff er Israel an und nahm von ihm einige gefangen.
And whanne Chananei, the kyng of Arad, that dwellide at the south, hadde herd this, that is, that Israel cam bi the weye of aspieris, he fauyt ayens hem; and Chananei was ouercomere and ledde pray of Israel.
2 Da machte Israel dem Herrn ein Gelübde und sprach: "Gibst Du dies Volk in meine Hand, dann banne ich ihre Städte."
And Israel bounde hym sylf bi avow to the Lord, and seide, If thou schalt bitake this puple in myn hond, Y schal do awei `the citees therof.
3 Und der Herr erhörte Israel und gab den Kanaaniter preis. Und es bannte sie und ihre Städte. Die Stätte nannte man Chorma.
And the Lord herde the preieris of Israel, and bitook the Chananey; and Israel killid hym, and distruyede hise citees; and clepide the name of that place Horma, that is, cursyng, `ethir hangyng up.
4 Sie zogen nun vom Berge Hor den Weg zum Schilfmeer, das Land Edom zu umgehen. Aber das Volk ward der Wanderung überdrüssig.
`Forsothe thei yeden forth also fro the hil of Hor, bi the weie that ledith to the reed see, that thei schulden cumpasse the lond of Edom; and it bigan to anoye the puple, of the weie and trauel.
5 Und das Volk redete wider Gott und Moses: "Warum habt ihr uns aus Ägypten hergeführt, daß wir in der Wüste sterben? Kein Brot gibt es und kein Wasser. Wir sind der ärmlichen Kost überdrüssig."
And the puple spak ayens the Lord and Moises, and seide, Whi leddist thou vs out of Egipt, that we schulden die in wildirnesse? breed failith, watris ben not; oure soule wlatith now on this `meete moost liyt.
6 Da sandte der Herr gegen das Volk die Schlangen, Brandnattern. Sie bissen die Leute, und viel Volk starb aus Israel.
Wherfor the Lord sente `firid serpentis in to the puple; at the woundis of whiche serpentis, and the dethis of ful many men,
7 Da kam das Volk zu Moses und sprach: "Wir haben gesündigt, daß wir gegen den Herrn und dich geredet haben. Bete zum Herrn, daß er die Schlangen von uns nehme!" Da betete Moses für das Volk.
thei camen to Moyses, and seiden, We synneden, for we spaken ayens the Lord and thee; preie thou, that he take awey fro vs the serpentis.
8 Und der Herr sprach zu Moses: "Mach dir eine Brandnatter und hänge sie an eine Stange! Jeder Gebissene schaue sie an und bleibe am Leben!"
And Moises preiede for the puple; and the Lord seide to hym, Make thou a serpent of bras, and sette thou it for a signe; he that is smytun and biholdith it, schal lyue.
9 Da machte Moses eine eherne Schlange und hängte sie an die Stange. Bissen dann die Schlangen jemand, so blickte er auf die eherne Schlange und blieb am Leben.
Therfor Moyses made a serpent of bras, and settide for a signe; and men smytun and biholdynge it, weren heelid.
10 Die Israeliten zogen nun weiter und lagerten in Obot.
And the sones of Israel yeden forth,
11 Von Obot zogen sie weiter und lagerten in Ijje Haabarim in der Wüste, die östlich an Moab stößt, gegen Osten.
and settiden tentis in Oboth; fro whennus thei yeden forth, and settiden tentis in Neabarym, in the wildirnesse, that biholdith Moab, ayens the eest coost.
12 Von dort zogen sie weiter und lagerten sich im Bachtal Zared.
And thei moueden fro thennus, and camen to the stronde of Zareth;
13 Von da zogen sie weiter und lagerten jenseits des Arnon, der in der Wüste ist und aus dem Amoritergebiet kommt. Denn der Arnon ist die Grenze Moabs zwischen Moabitern und Amoritern.
which thei leften, and settiden tentis ayens Arnon, which is in the deseert, and apperith in the coostis of Amorrei. Forsothe Arnon is the terme of Moab, and departith Moabitis and Ammoreis.
14 Daher heißt es im Buche der Kriege des Herrn: "Waheb in Supha und die Bachtäler des Arnon
Wherfor it is seid in the book of batels of the Lord, As he dide in the reed see, so he schal do in the strondis of Arnon;
15 und der Bachtäler Abhang, der sich bis zur Gegend von Ar erstreckt und sich an Moabs Grenze lehnt."
the harde rochis of the strondis weren bowid, that tho schulen reste in Arnon, and schulden ligge in the coostis of Moabitis.
16 Von dort nach Beer, das ist der Brunnen, von dem der Herr zu Moses gesagt: "Hol das Volk her, damit ich ihm Wasser gebe!"
Fro that place the pit apperide, of which the Lord spak to Moyses, Gadere thou the puple, and Y schal yyue watir to it.
17 Damals sang Israel dies Lied und fiel mit dem Kehrvers "Aufspringe, Quell!" ein:
Thanne Israel soong this song, The pit stie;
18 "Du Brunnen, von Fürsten gegraben, gebohrt von des Volkes Edlen mit Zeptern, ihren Stäben." Aus der Wüste ging es nach Mattana,
thei sungen togidere, The pit which the princes diggiden, and the duykis of the multitude maden redi, in the yyuere of the lawe, and in her stauys. And thei yeden forth fro the wildirnesse to Mathana,
19 von Mattana nach Nachaliel, von Nachaliel nach Bamot,
fro Mathana to Naaliel, fro Naaliel in to Bamoth;
20 von Bamot nach dem Tale in Moabs Gefilde beim Gipfel des Pisga, der auf das Ödland herabschaut.
Bamoth is a valey in the cuntrey of Moab, in the cop of Phasga, that biholdith ayens the deseert.
21 Da sandte Israel Boten zu dem Amoriterkönige Sichon und ließ sagen:
Forsothe Israel sente messangeris to Seon, kyng of Ammorreis, and seide,
22 "Ich möchte dein Land durchziehen. Wir wollen weder auf Felder noch in Weinberge abbiegen. Wir wollen kein Wasser aus den Brunnen trinken. Wir ziehen auf dem Königswege hin, bis wir dein Gebiet durchzogen haben."
Y biseche that it be leueful to me to passe thorou thi loond; we schulen not bowe in to the feeldis and vyneris; we schulen not drynke watris of pittis; we schulen go in the kyngis weie, til we passen thi termes.
23 Aber Sichon verweigerte Israel den Durchzug durch sein Gebiet; Sichon zog vielmehr sein ganzes Volk zusammen und rückte gegen Israel in die Wüste vor. So kam er nach Jahas und griff Israel an.
Which nolde graunte that Israel schulde passe thury hise coostis, but rather, whanne the oost was gaderid, he yede out ayens Israel, in to deseert. And he cam in to Yasa, and fauyt ayens Israel;
24 Israel aber schlug ihn mit dem Schwerte und eroberte sein Land vom Arnon bis zum Jabbok und bis zu den Ammonitern hin. Denn Jazer war die Grenze der Ammoniter.
of whom he was smytun in the scharpnesse of swerd, and his lond was weldid fro Arnon `til to Jeboth and `the sones of Amon; for the termes of Amonytis weren holdun bi strong help.
25 Israel nahm alle diese Städte ein. Und Israel besetzte alle Amoriterstädte, Chesbon und alle seine Tochterstädte.
Therfor Israel took alle `the citees of hym, and dwelliden in the citees of Amorrei, that is, in Esebon, and hise townes.
26 Chesbon aber war die Stadt des Amoriterkönigs Sichon. Dieser hatte mit dem früheren Moabiterkönig Krieg geführt; da nahm er ihm sein ganzes Land bis zum Arnon ab.
The citee of Esebon was Seons, kyng of Ammorei, which Seon fauyt ayens the kyng of Moab, and took al the lond that was of his lordschip, `til to Arnon.
27 Daher sagten die Spruchdichter: "Kommt nach Chesbon! Gebaut und wohlbefestigt werde Sichons Stadt!"
Therfor it is seid in prouerbe, Come ye in to Esebon, be it bildid, and maad the citee of Seon;
28 "Ein Feuer ging von Chesbon aus, aus Sichons Stadt die Lohe. Sie fraß bis Moab hin und glomm bis auf des Arnon Höhen."
fier yede out of Esebon, flawme yede out of the citee `ethir greet castel of Seon, and deuouryde Ar of Moabitis, and the dwelleris of the `hiye places of Arnon.
29 "Weh, Moab, dir! Du bist verloren, Volk des Kamos. Er läßt gefangennehmen seine Söhne, und seine Töchter werden Kriegsgefangene des Amoriterkönigs Sichon."
Moab, wo to thee! thou, puple of Chamos, perischidist; it yaf the sones therof in to fliyt, and the douytris in to caitifte to Seon, kyng of Ammoreis;
30 "Gerade sie beschossen wir. Zugrund ging Chesbon bis nach Dibon, und wir verwüsteten bis Nophach hin, bei Medeba."
the yok of hem perischide, fro Esebon `til to Dibon; the wery men camen in to Jophe, and `til to Medaba.
31 So besetzte Israel das Amoriterland.
And so Israel dwellide in the lond of Ammorrey.
32 Dann ließ Moses Jazer auskundschaften. Sie nahmen seine Tochterstädte, und man vertrieb die Amoriter darin.
And Moises sente men that schulden aspie Jaser, whos `townes thei token, and weldiden the dwelleris.
33 Dann wandten sie sich und zogen gen Basan hinauf. Da rückte Basans König Og mit seinem ganzen Volke ihnen bis Edreï entgegen zum Kampfe.
And thei turniden hem silf, and stieden bi the weie of Basan. And Og, the kyng of Basan, with al his puple cam ayens hem, to fiyte in Edray.
34 Der Herr aber sprach zu Moses: "Hab keine Furcht vor ihm! Ich gebe ihn und all sein Volk und Land in deine Hand. Tu mit ihm so, wie du mit dem Amoriterkönig Sichon getan, der zu Chesbon saß!"
And the Lord seide to Moises, Drede thou not hym, for Y haue bitake hym, and al his loond, and puple, in thin hoond; and thou schalt do to hym as thou didist to Seon, kyng of Ammorreis, the dwellere of Esebon.
35 Da schlugen sie ihn, seine Söhne und all sein Volk, daß kein Entronnener ihm blieb. Und sie besetzten sein Land.
Therfor thei smytiden `bothe hym with hise sones and al his puple, `til to deeth; and thei weldiden `the lond of hym.
