4 Mose 20

1 Und die Söhne Israels, die ganze Gemeinde, kamen am ersten Neumond in die Wüste Sin. Und das Volk blieb in Kades. Hier starb Mirjam und ward hier begraben.

The children of Israel, even the whole congregation, came into the wilderness of Zin in the first month. The people stayed in Kadesh. Miriam died there, and was buried there.

2 Die Gemeinde aber hatte kein Wasser. Da rotteten sie sich wider Moses und Aaron zusammen.

There was no water for the congregation; and they assembled themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.

3 Und das Volk haderte mit Moses und schrie: "Ach, wären wir auch umgekommen, als unsere Brüder vor dem Herrn umkamen!

The people quarrelled with Moses, and spoke, saying, “We wish that we had died when our brothers died before the LORD!

4 Warum habt ihr des Herrn Gemeinde in diese Wüste geführt, hier mit unserem Vieh zu sterben?

Why have you brought the LORD’s assembly into this wilderness, that we should die there, we and our animals?

5 Warum habt ihr aus Ägypten uns geführt, uns an diesen schlimmen Ort zu bringen, an einen Ort, wo es nicht Korn, noch Feige, noch Weinstock, noch Granatapfel, noch Trinkwasser gibt?"

Why have you made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in to this evil place? It is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink.”

6 Da kamen Moses und Aaron von der Gemeinde zu der Pforte des Festgezeltes und fielen auf ihr Antlitz. Da erschien ihnen die Herrlichkeit des Herrn.

Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly to the door of the Tent of Meeting, and fell on their faces. The LORD’s glory appeared to them.

7 Und der Herr sprach zu Moses:

The LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

8 "Hol den Stab, versammle die Gemeinde, du und dein Bruder Aaron, und redet vor ihren Augen mit dem Felsen, daß er sein Wasser hergebe! Laß für sie Wasser aus dem Felsen sprudeln und tränke die Gemeinde und ihr Vieh!"

“Take the rod, and assemble the congregation, you, and Aaron your brother, and speak to the rock before their eyes, that it pour out its water. You shall bring water to them out of the rock; so you shall give the congregation and their livestock drink.”

9 Da holte Moses den Stab vom Herrn, wie ihm der Herr befohlen.

Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him.

10 Dann versammelten Moses und Aaron die Gemeinde vor dem Felsen. Er sprach zu ihnen: "Hört, ihr Widerspenstigen! Vermögen wir aus diesem Felsen Wasser für euch zu locken?"

Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock, and he said to them, “Hear now, you rebels! Shall we bring water out of this rock for you?”

11 Dann hob Moses seine Hand und schlug zweimal an den Felsen mit seinem Stabe. Da kam viel Wasser heraus, und die Gemeinde trank samt ihrem Vieh.

Moses lifted up his hand, and struck the rock with his rod twice, and water came out abundantly. The congregation and their livestock drank.

12 Der Herr aber sprach zu Moses und Aaron: "Weil ihr mir nicht geglaubt und mich vor den Israeliten nicht gerechtfertigt habt, darum dürft ihr diese Gemeinde nicht in das Land führen, das ich ihnen gegeben habe."

The LORD said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you didn’t believe in me, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them.”

13 Das ist das Zweifelwasser, wo die Israeliten am Herrn zweifelten und er sich ihnen gegenüber rechtfertigte.

These are the waters of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with the LORD, and he was sanctified in them.

14 Und Moses sandte Boten von Kades zum König von Edom. "So spricht dein Bruder Israel: 'Du kennst all das Ungemach, das uns betroffen,

Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom, saying: “Your brother Israel says: You know all the travail that has happened to us;

15 wie unsere Väter nach Ägypten zogen und wir lange in Ägypten saßen, wie die Ägypter uns und unsere Väter hart bedrückten,

how our fathers went down into Egypt, and we lived in Egypt a long time. The Egyptians mistreated us and our fathers.

16 wie wir zum Herrn schrien und er unser Flehen erhörte und einen Engel sandte und uns aus Ägypten führte. Jetzt sind wir in Kades, einer Stadt an deines Reiches Grenze.

When we cried to the LORD, he heard our voice, sent an angel, and brought us out of Egypt. Behold, we are in Kadesh, a city in the edge of your border.

17 Laß uns doch durch dein Land ziehen! Wir wollen nicht durch Feld und Weinberg ziehen. Wir wollen kein Wasser aus den Brunnen trinken. Wir ziehen auf dem Königsweg und biegen weder rechts noch links ab, bis daß wir dein Gebiet durchzogen haben.'"

“Please let us pass through your land. We will not pass through field or through vineyard, neither will we drink from the water of the wells. We will go along the king’s highway. We will not turn away to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed your border.”

18 Da ließ ihm Edom sagen: "Du darfst bei mir nicht durchziehen; sonst trete ich dir mit dem Schwert entgegen."

Edom said to him, “You shall not pass through me, lest I come out with the sword against you.”

19 Da ließ ihm Israel sagen: "Auf der Straße wollen wir hinziehen. Trinken wir deine Wasser, ich und meine Herden, dann bezahle ich es; ich will nichts weiter, als einfach durchziehen."

The children of Israel said to him, “We will go up by the highway; and if we drink your water, I and my livestock, then I will give its price. Only let me, without doing anything else, pass through on my feet.”

20 Da ließ er sagen: "Du darfst es nicht." Und Edom zog ihm mit zahlreichem Kriegsvolk und bewaffneter Hand entgegen.

He said, “You shall not pass through.” Edom came out against him with many people, and with a strong hand.

21 So verweigerte Edom den Durchzug Israels durch sein Gebiet. Und Israel bog von ihm seitwärts ab.

Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border, so Israel turned away from him.

22 Dann brachen sie von Kades auf, und so kamen die Israeliten, die ganze Gemeinde, zum Berge Hor.

They travelled from Kadesh, and the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, came to Mount Hor.

23 Da sprach der Herr zu Moses und Aaron am Berge Hor, an der Grenze des Landes Edom:

The LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron in Mount Hor, by the border of the land of Edom, saying,

24 "Aaron soll zu seinen Stammesgenossen aufgenommen werden! Er darf das Land, das ich den Israeliten gebe, nicht betreten, weil ihr am Zweifelwasser widerstrebt habt dem, was ich befohlen.

“Aaron shall be gathered to his people; for he shall not enter into the land which I have given to the children of Israel, because you rebelled against my word at the waters of Meribah.

25 Nimm Aaron und Eleazar, seinen Sohn, und fahre sie auf den Berg Hor!

Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up to Mount Hor;

26 Dann nimm dem Aaron seine Kleider ab und bekleide damit seinen Sohn Eleazar! Dann wird Aaron weggenommen und dort sterben."

and strip Aaron of his garments, and put them on Eleazar his son. Aaron shall be gathered, and shall die there.”

27 Und Moses tat, wie ihm der Herr befohlen. Sie stiegen auf den Berg Hor vor den Augen der ganzen Gemeinde.

Moses did as the LORD commanded. They went up onto Mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation.

28 Dann nahm Moses Aaron seine Gewänder ab und bekleidete damit seinen Sohn Eleazar. Dann starb Aaron dort auf der Spitze des Berges. Hernach stiegen Moses und Eleazar den Berg hinab.

Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them on Eleazar his son. Aaron died there on the top of the mountain, and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain.

29 Da sah die ganze Gemeinde, daß Aaron verschieden war, und das ganze Haus Israel beweinte Aaron dreißig Tage.

When all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they wept for Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.
