4 Mose 14
1 Da erhob die ganze Gemeinde ihre Stimme und ließ sie erschallen. Und das Volk weinte in jener Nacht,
And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.
2 und alle Israeliten murrten wider Moses und Aaron, und die ganze Gemeinde sprach zu ihnen: "Wären wir doch im Ägypterlande oder in der Wüste hier gestorben!
And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would that we had died in this wilderness!
3 Warum bringt uns der Herr in dieses Land? Damit wir durch das Schwert fallen? Zur Beute werden unsere Weiber und unsere Kinder. Wäre es für uns nicht besser, nach Ägypten zurückzukehren?"
And wherefore doth Jehovah bring us unto this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will be a prey: were it not better for us to return into Egypt?
4 Und sie sprachen zueinander: "Laßt uns den Kopf daran setzen und kehren wir nach Ägypten zurück!"
And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.
5 Da fielen Moses und Aaron auf ihr Antlitz vor der ganzen versammelten israelitischen Gemeinde.
Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.
6 Josue aber, Nuns Sohn, und Jephunnes Sohn, Kaleb, die zu den Kundschaftern des Landes gehörten, hatten ihre Kleider zerrissen.
And Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were of them that spied out the land, rent their clothes:
7 Sie sprachen zur ganzen israelitischen Gemeinde also: "Das Land, das wir durchzogen, es auszuspähen, ist ein treffliches Land.
and they spake unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to spy it out, is an exceeding good land.
8 Ist uns der Herr geneigt, dann bringt er uns in dieses Land und gibt es uns, ein Land von Milch und Honig fließend.
If Jehovah delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it unto us; a land which floweth with milk and honey.
9 Empört euch doch nicht gegen den Herrn! Das Volk des Landes aber fürchtet nicht! Wir werden sie aufzehren. Von ihnen ist ihr Schutz gewichen; mit uns aber ist der Herr. Habt keine Furcht vor ihnen!"
Only rebel not against Jehovah, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is removed from over them, and Jehovah is with us: fear them not.
10 Aber die ganze Gemeinde besprach sich schon, sie zu steinigen. Da erschien des Herrn Herrlichkeit am Festgezelt allen Israeliten.
But all the congregation bade stone them with stones. And the glory of Jehovah appeared in the tent of meeting unto all the children of Israel.
11 Und der Herr sprach zu Moses: "Wie lange höhnt mich dieses Volk? Wie lange schenkt es mir keinen Glauben, trotz aller Zeichen, die ich unter ihm getan?
And Jehovah said unto Moses, How long will this people despise me? and how long will they not believe in me, for all the signs which I have wrought among them?
12 Ich schlage es mit der Pest und vertilge es. Dich aber mache ich zu einem Volke, größer und zahlreicher als jenes."
I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of thee a nation greater and mightier than they.
13 Da sprach Moses zum Herrn: "So? Daß Ägypten davon hört! Hast Du doch dieses Volk in Deiner Kraft aus seiner Mitte heraufgeführt!
And Moses said unto Jehovah, Then the Egyptians will hear it; for thou broughtest up this people in thy might from among them;
14 Daß dieses Landes Bewohner davon reden! Sie, die gehört, daß Du, der Herr, inmitten dieses Volkes weilst, daß Du Auge in Auge erscheinst und daß Deine Wolke über ihnen schwebt und daß Du in einer Wolkensäule vor ihnen herschreitest bei Tag und des Nachts in einer Feuersäule.
and they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land. They have heard that thou Jehovah art in the midst of this people; for thou Jehovah art seen face to face, and thy cloud standeth over them, and thou goest before them, in a pillar of cloud by day, and in a pillar of fire by night.
15 Tötest Du nun dies Volk wie einen Mann, so werden die Heiden die Kunde von Dir vernehmen und sagen:
Now if thou shalt kill this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying,
16 'Weil der Herr nicht mehr imstande ist, dies Volk in jenes Land zu bringen, das er ihnen zugeschworen, darum metzelt er sie in der Wüste hin.'
Because Jehovah was not able to bring this people into the land which he sware unto them, therefore he hath slain them in the wilderness.
17 Nun zeige sich groß, Herr, Deine Langmut, wie Du verheißen:
And now, I pray thee, let the power of the Lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying,
18 'Zum Zorne ist der Herr langsam, aber reich an Huld und verzeiht Missetat und Sünde; doch läßt er nicht ganz ungestraft. Er ahndet Väterschuld noch an den Kindern, am dritten und am vierten Gliede.'
Jehovah is slow to anger, and abundant in lovingkindness, forgiving iniquity and transgression; and that will by no means clear [the guilty], visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, upon the third and upon the fourth generation.
19 Vergib doch dieses Volkes Missetat nach der Größe Deiner Gnade! So, wie Du diesem Volke von Ägypten bis auf heute hast vergeben."
Pardon, I pray thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy lovingkindness, and according as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.
20 Da sprach der Herr: "Ich verzeihe nach deinem Worte.
And Jehovah said, I have pardoned according to thy word:
21 So wahr ich aber lebe! Die ganze Erde wird voll vom Ruhme des Herrn.
but in very deed, as I live, and as all the earth shall be filled with the glory of Jehovah;
22 Denn die Männer alle, die meinen Ruhm und meine Zeichen, die ich in Ägypten und in der Wüste gewirkt, geschaut und dennoch mich zehnmal versucht und nicht auf meine Stimme gehört haben,
because all those men that have seen my glory, and my signs, which I wrought in Egypt and in the wilderness, yet have tempted me these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;
23 werden nimmermehr das Land sehen, das ich euren Vätern zugeschworen. Nicht einer von all denen, die mich verhöhnt, soll es je schauen!
surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that despised me see it:
24 Doch meinen Diener Kaleb, mit dem ein anderer Geist gewesen und der mir Ehrfurcht zollte, bringe ich in das Land, in das er gekommen. Er soll es auf seine Nachkommen vererben!
but my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.
25 In der Niederung und auf dem Gebirge aber bleiben die Amalekiter und die Kanaaniter. Morgen wendet euch und zieht in die Wüste, dem Schilfmeer zu!"
Now the Amalekite and the Canaanite dwell in the valley: to-morrow turn ye, and get you into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea.
26 Und der Herr redete zu Moses und Aaron also:
And Jehovah spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,
27 "Wie lange soll dies der bösen Gemeinde eigen sein, daß sie gegen mich murrt? Der Israeliten Gemurr gegen mich habe ich vernommen.
How long [shall I bear] with this evil congregation, that murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.
28 Sage ihnen: 'So wahr ich lebe', ein Spruch des Herrn, 'wie ihr es laut vor mir ausgesprochen, so tue ich euch!
Say unto them, As I live, saith Jehovah, surely as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you:
29 Eure Leichname sollen in dieser Wüste niedersinken, alle eure Gemusterten, die ganze Zahl von zwanzig Jahren aufwärts, wie ihr mir gegenüber gemurrt habt!
your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, that have murmured against me,
30 Nie kommt ihr in das Land, das ich euch zum Wohnsitz eidlich angewiesen. Nur Kaleb, Jephunnes Sohn, und Josue, der Sohn des Nun!
surely ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I sware that I would make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.
31 Doch eure kleinen Kinder, von denen ihr gesagt, sie werden zur Beute, die bringe ich hinein. Sie werden das Land kennenlernen, das ihr verschmäht habt.
But your little ones, that ye said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have rejected.
32 Aber eure Leichen bleiben hier in dieser Wüste liegen.
But as for you, your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness.
33 Und eure Söhne werden in der Wüste vierzig Jahre lang weiden müssen und so für euer Murren büßen, bis eure Leiber in der Wüste aufgerieben sind,
And your children shall be wanderers in the wilderness forty years, and shall bear your whoredoms, until your dead bodies be consumed in the wilderness.
34 nach der Zahl jener vierzig Tage, da ihr das Land ausgespäht habt. Je einen Tag für ein Jahr sollt ihr eure Sünden vierzig Jahre lang büßen, daß ihr erfahret meine Entfremdung.
After the number of the days in which ye spied out the land, even forty days, for every day a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my alienation.
35 Ich sage es, der Herr: Ich tue wahrlich so mit dieser ganzen bösen Gemeinde, die sich gegen mich zusammengerottet. In dieser Wüste sollen sie hinschwinden! Hier sollen sie sterben!
I, Jehovah, have spoken, surely this will I do unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.
36 Und die Männer, die Moses zur Erkundung des Landes entsandt hatte und die nach der Rückkehr die ganze Gemeinde zum Murren wider ihn aufhetzten, da sie Schlimmes gegen das Land vorbrachten,
And the men, whom Moses sent to spy out the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up an evil report against the land,
37 diese Männer, die Schlimmes gegen das Land vorgebracht, werden vor dem Herrn am Schlage sterben.
even those men that did bring up an evil report of the land, died by the plague before Jehovah.
38 Josue, Nuns Sohn, aber und Jephunnes Sohn Kaleb, sollen von diesen Männern, die zur Erkundung des Landes ausgezogen, am Leben bleiben!'"
But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, remained alive of those men that went to spy out the land.
39 Als Moses alle diese Worte sämtlichen Israeliten verkündete, ward das Volk sehr traurig.
And Moses told these words unto all the children of Israel: and the people mourned greatly.
40 Und sie zogen am anderen Morgen in der Frühe auf den Kamm des Gebirges und sprachen: "Nun ziehen wir doch hinauf in das Gebiet, von dem der Herr geredet. Wir haben ja gesündigt."
And they rose up early in the morning, and gat them up to the top of the mountain, saying, Lo, we are here, and will go up unto the place which Jehovah hath promised: for we have sinned.
41 Da sprach Moses: "Warum wollt ihr des Herrn Befehl jetzt übertreten? Das kann nicht gelingen.
And Moses said, Wherefore now do ye transgress the commandment of Jehovah, seeing it shall not prosper?
42 Zieht nicht hinauf! Der Herr ist nicht in eurer Mitte. Ihr werdet sonst vor eure Feinde hingestoßen werden.
Go not up, for Jehovah is not among you; that ye be not smitten down before your enemies.
43 Dort stehen ja die Amalekiter und die Kanaaniter euch gegenüber. Ihr fallt durch das Schwert. Denn ihr habt euch vom Herrn abgewandt. Darum ist der Herr nicht mit euch."
For there the Amalekite and the Canaanite are before you, and ye shall fall by the sword: because ye are turned back from following Jehovah, therefore Jehovah will not be with you.
44 Doch sie vermaßen sich, zum Kamme des Gebirges zu ziehen. Aber die Bundeslade des Herrn und Moses waren nicht aus dem Lager gewichen.
But they presumed to go up to the top of the mountain: nevertheless the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, and Moses, departed not out of the camp.
45 Da stiegen die Amalekiter herab und die Kanaaniter, die auf jenem Gebirge saßen, schlugen sie und zersprengten sie bis Chorma.
Then the Amalekite came down, and the Canaanite who dwelt in that mountain, and smote them and beat them down, even unto Hormah.
