Matthaeus 23
1 Darauf sprach Jesus zu den Scharen und zu seinen Jüngern:
Then Jesus conversed with the multitude and with his disciples,
2 "Auf dem Stuhle des Moses sitzen die Schriftgelehrten und die Pharisäer.
and said to them: The Scribes and Pharisees sit in the seat of Moses.
3 Tut und haltet alles, was sie euch verkünden; jedoch nach ihren Werken dürft ihr euch nicht richten. Sie reden nämlich nur und handeln nicht danach.
Whatever therefore they tell you to observe, that observe and do. But according to their deeds, practise ye not: for they say, and do not.
4 Sie binden unerträglich schwere Lasten und legen sie den Menschen auf die Schultern; sie selber aber wollen nicht einmal mit ihrem Finger daran rühren.
They tie up heavy burdens, and lay them on men's shoulders; but will not themselves touch them with their finger.
5 Sie tun auch alle ihre Werke, um von den Menschen angestaunt zu werden. So machen sie ihre Gebetsriemen breit und ihre Kleiderquasten lang;
And all their works they do, to be seen of men: for they make their phylacteries broad, and extend the fringes of their garments.
6 bei den Mählern lieben sie die Ehrenplätze und die Ehrensitze in den Synagogen,
And they love the highest couches at suppers and the highest seats in the synagogues,
7 den Gruß auf den öffentlichen Plätzen und lassen von den Leuten gern sich 'Rabbi' heißen.
and the greeting in the market places, and to be addressed by men with Rabbi.
8 Ihr sollt euch nicht 'Rabbi' nennen lassen. Nur einer ist ja euer Lehrer, ihr aber seid alle Brüder.
But be not ye called Rabbi; for one is your Rabbi, and ye are all brethren.
9 Auch sollt ihr auf Erden keinen aus euch 'Vater' nennen. Nur einer ist euer Vater, der im Himmel.
And ye shall not call yourselves Father on earth; for one is your Father, who is in heaven.
10 Auch lasset euch nicht Lehrmeister nennen. Nur einer ist euer Lehrmeister: Christus.
And be ye not called guides; for one is your Guide, the Messiah.
11 Der größte unter euch sei euer Diener.
And the great one among you will be your servitor.
12 Denn wer sich selbst erhöht, wird erniedrigt werden, und wer sich selbst erniedrigt, wird erhöht werden.
For whoever shall exalt himself, will be abased: and whoever shall abase himself, will be exalted.
13 Wehe euch, ihr Schriftgelehrten und ihr Pharisäer! Heuchler! Ihr verschließt das Himmelreich den Menschen; ihr selber geht nicht hinein, noch laßt ihr die hineingehen, die gerne möchten.
Woe to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites: for ye devour the houses of widows, under the disguise of protracting your prayers. Therefore ye shall receive greater condemnation.
14 "Wehe euch, ihr Schriftgelehrten und ihr Pharisäer! Heuchler! Ihr verzehret die Häuser der Witwen und sagt dafür lange Gebete her. Ihr werdet dafür eine härtere Strafe erhalten."
Woe to you. Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites: for ye hold the kingdom of heaven closed before men; for ye enter not yourselves, and those that would enter ye suffer not to enter.
15 Wehe euch, ihr Schriftgelehrten und ihr Pharisäer! Heuchler! Ihr zieht über Land und Meer, um einen einzigen Proselyten zu gewinnen; und ist er es geworden, dann macht ihr ihn zum Sohn der Hölle, noch einmal so schlimm als ihr. (Geenna g1067)
Woe to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites: for ye traverse sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he is gained, ye make him a child of hell twofold more than yourselves. (Geenna g1067)
16 Wehe euch, ihr blinden Führer! Ihr sagt, wenn einer beim Tempel schwöre, das gelte nichts; wer aber bei dem Gold des Tempels schwört, der sei dadurch verpflichtet.
Woe to you, ye blind guides: for ye say, Whoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever shall swear by the gold that is in the temple, he is holden.
17 Ihr Toren und Blinde! Was ist denn wichtiger: das Gold oder der Tempel, der das Gold erst heiligt?
Ye fools, and blind: for which is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?
18 Dann sagt ihr, wenn einer beim Altare schwöre, das gelte nichts, wer aber bei der Opfergabe, die darauf liegt, schwört, der sei dadurch verpflichtet.
And, whoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing: but whoever shall swear by the oblation upon it, he is holden.
19 Ihr Blinden! Was ist wichtiger: die Opfergabe oder der Altar, der erst die Gabe heiligt?
Ye fools, and blind: for which is greater, the oblation, or the altar that sanctifieth the oblation?
20 Wer demnach beim Altare schwört, der schwört bei diesem und bei allem, was auf ihm liegt.
He therefore who sweareth by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all that is upon it.
21 Und wer beim Tempel schwört, der schwört bei diesem und bei dem, der darin wohnt.
And he who sweareth by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth in it.
22 Und wer beim Himmel schwört, der schwört beim Throne Gottes und bei dem, der darauf sitzt.
And he who sweareth by heaven, sweareth by throne of God, and by him that sitteth on it.
23 Wehe euch, ihr Schriftgelehrten und ihr Pharisäer! Heuchler! Ihr verzehntet Minze, Anis, Kümmel; die wichtigeren Gebote aber übersehet ihr: Gerechtigkeit, Güte, Treue. Das eine soll man tun, das andere jedoch nicht lassen.
Woe to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites: for ye tithe mint, and anise, and cummin, and omit the graver matters of the law, judgment, and mercy, and fidelity: these ought ye to do, and those not to omit.
24 Ihr blinden Führer! Ihr seiht Mücken und verschlingt Kamele.
Ye blind guides, who strain out gnats, and swallow down camels.
25 Wehe euch, ihr Schriftgelehrten und ihr Pharisäer! Heuchler! Ihr reinigt das Äußere des Bechers und der Schüssel, das Innere aber laßt ihr strotzen von Raub und Unersättlichkeit.
Woe to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites: for ye cleanse the outside of the cup and the dish, while within they are full of rapine and wickedness.
26 Du blinder Pharisäer! Mach doch zuerst den Becher und die Schüssel innen rein, dann wird ihre Außenseite gleichfalls rein.
Ye blind Pharisees, cleanse first the inside of the cup and dish, that their outside may be clean also.
27 Wehe euch, ihr Schriftgelehrten und ihr Pharisäer! Heuchler! Ihr gleicht übertünchten Gräbern, die nach außen hin zwar schön erscheinen, inwendig aber voll sind von Totenknochen und jedem anderen Unrat.
Woe to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites: for ye are like whited sepulchres, which appear comely without, but are within full of bones of the dead and all impurity.
28 So erscheint auch ihr nach außen hin den Menschen als gerecht; inwendig aber seid ihr voll von Heuchelei und Schlechtigkeit.
So ye also, outwardly, appear to men as righteous; but within, ye are full of iniquity and hypocrisy.
29 Wehe euch, ihr Schriftgelehrten und ihr Pharisäer! Heuchler! Ihr bauet den Propheten Grabdenkmäler und schmücket die Denkstätten der Gerechten.
Woe to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites: for ye build the tombs of the prophets and ye adorn the sepulchres of the righteous;
30 Ihr saget: 'Hätten wir zu Zeiten unserer Väter gelebt, wir hätten uns am Blute der Propheten nicht mitschuldig gemacht.'
and ye say: If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been participators with them in the blood of the prophets.
31 Nun, so bezeuget ihr euch selbst, daß ihr Söhne der Prophetenmörder seid.
Wherefore ye are witnesses, against yourselves, that ye are the children of them that killed the prophets.
32 Ihr macht das Maß eurer Väter voll
And as for you, fill ye up the measure of your fathers.
33 Schlangen! Natternbrut! Wie werdet ihr der Verdammung zur Hölle entfliehen können? (Geenna g1067)
Ye serpents, ye race of vipers: how can ye escape the condemnation of hell? (Geenna g1067)
34 Seht, gerade deshalb sende ich zu euch Propheten, Weisheitslehrer und Schriftgelehrte. Die einen werdet ihr ermorden und kreuzigen, die anderen in euren Synagogen geißeln und sie von Stadt zu Stadt hetzen,
Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes; some of whom ye will kill and crucify, and some of them ye will scourge in your synagogues, and will persecute them from city to city:
35 damit über euch all das unschuldige Blut komme, das je auf Erden vergossen ward, vom Blute des gerechten Abel an bis auf das Blut des Zacharias, des Sohnes des Barachias, den ihr zwischen Tempel und Altar ermordet habt.
so that on you may come all the blood of the righteous, which hath been shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zachariah, son of Barachiah, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.
36 Wahrlich, ich sage euch: Alles dies kommt über dieses Geschlecht.
Verily I say to you, that all these things will come upon this generation.
37 Jerusalem, Jerusalem, das du die Propheten mordest und jene steinigst, die zu dir gesandt wurden! Wie oft wollte ich deine Kinder sammeln, wie eine Henne ihre Küchlein unter ihre Flügel sammelt, allein, ihr habt nicht gewollt.
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent to thee: how often would I have gathered thy children, as a hen gathereth her young under her wings, and ye would not.
38 Seht, euer Haus wird euch verwüstet überlassen bleiben.
Behold, your house is left to you desolate!
39 Jedoch ich sage euch: Ihr werdet mich von jetzt an nicht mehr sehen, bis daß ihr sprechet: 'Gepriesen sei, der da kommt im Namen des Herrn!'"
For I say to you, That ye shall not see me henceforth, until ye shall say: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
