Matthaeus 16
1 Die Pharisäer und die Sadduzäer traten zu ihm hin. Sie wollten ihn versuchen und verlangten von ihm, er solle sie ein Zeichen vom Himmel sehen lassen.
The Pharisees and Sadducees came to test Jesus, demanding that he show them a sign from heaven.
2 Er aber gab ihnen zur Antwort: "Am Abend sagt ihr: 'Es wird schön Wetter, denn der Himmel ist feuerrot.'
Jesus replied, “In the evening you say, ‘It'll be a fine day tomorrow, because the sky is red,’
3 Am Morgen: 'Heute gibt es Sturm, denn der Himmel ist trübrot.' Wie der Himmel aussieht, wisset ihr zu deuten, nicht aber könnt ihr es bei den Zeichen der Zeit.
while in the morning you say, ‘It'll be bad weather today, because the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to predict the weather by what the sky looks like, but you can't recognize the signs of the times!
4 Ein böses und ein ehebrecherisches Geschlecht verlangt ein Zeichen. Jedoch wird ihm kein anderes Zeichen gegeben werden, als das Zeichen des Jonas." Damit ließ er sie stehen und ging weg.
Evil people who don't trust in God are the ones who look for a miraculous sign, and no sign will be given to them except the sign of Jonah.” He left them and went away.
5 Seine Jünger langten am andern Ufer an; sie hatten aber vergessen, Brote mitzunehmen.
Going to the other side of the lake, the disciples forgot to bring bread with them.
6 Und Jesus sprach zu ihnen: "Hütet euch vor dem Sauerteig der Pharisäer und Sadduzäer."
“Watch out for the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees,” Jesus told them.
7 Sie dachten hin und her und sprachen schließlich: "Wir haben ja kein Brot bei uns."
The disciples started arguing among themselves. “He's saying that because we didn't bring any bread,” they concluded.
8 Jesus merkte dies und sprach: "Was denkt ihr da bei euch, Kleingläubige, daß ihr kein Brot mitgenommen habt?
Jesus knew what they were saying and said, “You have so little trust in me! Why are you arguing among yourselves about not having any bread?
9 Begreift ihr denn immer noch nicht? Erinnert ihr euch nicht mehr an die fünf Brote für die Fünftausend und wieviel Körbe ihr noch bekommen habt?
Haven't you worked it out yet? Don't you remember the five loaves that fed five thousand? How many baskets of leftovers did you collect?
10 Auch nicht mehr an die sieben Brote für die Viertausend und wieviel Körbe ihr noch bekommen habt?
And what about the seven loaves that fed the four thousand? How many baskets of leftovers did you collect?
11 Warum begreift ihr denn nicht, daß ich nicht von Broten zu euch gesprochen habe? Doch hütet euch vor dem Sauerteig der Pharisäer und Sadduzäer."
Haven't you worked it out yet that I wasn't talking to you about bread? Watch out for the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees!”
12 Nunmehr begriffen sie, daß er es nicht so gemeint hätte, als sollten sie sich vor dem Sauerteig des Brotes hüten, sondern vor der Lehre der Pharisäer und Sadduzäer.
Then they realized that he wasn't warning them to watch out for bread yeast, but about the teachings of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
13 Und Jesus kam in das Gebiet von Cäsarea Philippi. Er fragte seine Jünger: "Für wen halten die Leute den Menschensohn?"
When Jesus arrived in the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of man is?”
14 Sie sagte: "Die einen für Johannes den Täufer, andre für Elias, wieder andre für Jeremias oder für den Einen der Propheten."
“Some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets,” they replied.
15 Er fragte weiter: "Und ihr, für wen haltet ihr mich?"
“But what about you?” he asked them. “Who do you say I am?”
16 Da antwortete Simon Petrus: "Du bist der Christus, der Sohn des lebendigen Gottes."
“You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God,” Simon Peter replied.
17 Darauf sprach Jesus zu ihm: "Selig bist du, Simon, Sohn des Jonas. Nicht Fleisch und Blut hat dir das geoffenbart, sondern mein Vater, der in den Himmeln ist.
“You are truly blessed, Simon son of John,” Jesus told him. “For this wasn't revealed to you by human flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.
18 Ich sage dir: Du bist Petrus; auf diesen Felsen will ich meine Kirche bauen, und die Pforten der Hölle werden sie nicht überwältigen. (Hadēs g86)
I also tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church and the powers of death won't overcome it. (Hadēs g86)
19 Ich werde dir die Schlüssel des Himmelreiches geben; was immer du auf Erden binden wirst, das wird auch in den Himmeln gebunden sein, was immer du auf Erden lösen wirst, das wird auch in den Himmeln gelöst sein."
I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you ban on earth will be banned in heaven, and whatever you allow on earth will be allowed in heaven.”
20 Sodann gebot er seinen Jüngern, es niemandem zu sagen, daß er der Christus sei.
Then he warned his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.
21 Von jetzt an begann Jesus, seinen Jüngern klarzumachen, daß er nach Jerusalem gehen müsse und vieles leiden werde von den Ältesten, den Oberpriestern und den Schriftgelehrten, daß er getötet werde müsse, am dritten Tage aber wieder auferstehen werde.
From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he would have to go Jerusalem, and that he would suffer terribly at the hands of the elders, chief priests, and religious teachers; and that he would be killed, but he would rise again on the third day.
22 Da nahm Petrus ihn beiseite und wollte ihm ernstlich zureden: "Gott bewahre, Herr! Das sei ferne von dir!"
Peter took Jesus aside and started to tell him he shouldn't talk like that. “God forbid, Lord, that this would ever happen to you!” he said.
23 Da wandte er sich um und sprach zu Petrus: "Hinweg von mir, du Satan! Du bist für mich ein Ärgernis; du hast nicht Sinn für das Göttliche, sondern für das Menschliche."
Jesus turned to Peter, and told him, “Get away from me, Satan! You are a trap to trip me up, because you're thinking in a human way, and not as God thinks!”
24 Dann sprach Jesus zu seinen Jüngern: "Wer mir nachfolgen will, der verleugne sich selbst, nehme sein Kreuz auf sich und folge mir nach.
Then Jesus told his disciples, “If you want to be a follower of mine, you must deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow me.
25 Denn wer sein Leben sich erhalten will, der wird es verlieren, wer aber sein Leben meinetwegen verliert, der wird es erhalten.
For if you want to save your life you will lose it, and if you lose your life for my sake you will save it.
26 Was nützt es dem Menschen, wenn er die ganze Welt gewänne, dabei aber doch sein Leben verlieren würde. Oder was möchte auch einer geben als Kaufpreis für sein Leben?
What benefit is it for you to gain the whole world, yet lose your life? What would you give in exchange for your life?
27 Der Menschensohn wird in der Herrlichkeit seines Vaters erscheinen samt seinen Engeln; er wird dann jedem vergelten nach seinen Werken.
For the Son of man is going to come in his Father's glory, together with his angels. Then he will give everyone what they deserve according to what they've done.
28 Wahrlich, ich sage euch: Es stehen solche hier, die den Tod nicht kosten werden, bis sie den Menschensohn in seinem Reiche kommen sehen."
I tell you the truth, there are some standing here who won't die before they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.”
