Richter 21
1 Israels Mannschaft aber hatte auf der Mispa geschworen: "Keiner von uns darf seine Tochter Benjamin zum Weibe geben."
Now the men of Israel had sworn in Mizpah, saying, "There shall not any of us give his daughter to Benjamin as wife."
2 Und das Volk kam nach Betel und saß dort bis zum Abend vor Gott. Und sie erhoben ihre Stimme, weinten laut und sprachen:
The people came to Bethel, and sat there until evening before God, and lifted up their voices, and wept severely.
3 "Warum, Herr, Gott Israels, ist dies in Israel geschehen, daß heute aus Israel ein Stamm vermißt wird?"
They said, "YHWH God of Israel, why has this happened in Israel, that there should be today one tribe lacking in Israel?"
4 Das Volk aber baute am anderen Morgen früh dort einen Altar und brachte Brand- und Dankopfer dar.
It happened on the next day that the people rose early, and built there an altar, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings.
5 Dann fragten die Israeliten: "Wer von allen Stämmen Israels ist es, der nicht mit der Gemeinde zum Herrn heraufgezogen ist?" Denn der große Schwur war gegen den ausgesprochen worden, der nicht zum Herrn nach der Mispa käme: "Er soll des Todes sterben!"
The children of Israel said, "Who is there among all the tribes of Israel who did not come up in the assembly to YHWH?" For they had made a great oath concerning anyone who did not come up to YHWH to Mizpah, saying, "He shall surely be put to death."
6 Da tat es den Israeliten leid um ihren Bruder Benjamin, und sie sprachen: "Heute ist ein Stamm aus Israel ausgerissen.
The children of Israel grieved for Benjamin their brother, and said, "There is one tribe cut off from Israel this day.
7 Wie können wir den Übriggebliebenen zu Weibern verhelfen? Wir haben ja beim Herrn geschworen, daß wir keine unserer Töchter an sie verheiraten wollen?"
How shall we do for wives for those who remain, seeing we have sworn by YHWH that we will not give them of our daughters to wives?"
8 Da sprachen sie: "Welcher von Israels Stämmen ist nicht zum Herrn nach der Mispa gezogen?" Da fand sich, daß aus Jabes in Gilead niemand ins Lager zur Versammlung gekommen war.
They said, "What one is there of the tribes of Israel who did not come up to YHWH to Mizpah?" Look, no one came to the camp from Jabesh Gilead to the assembly.
9 Da ward das Volk gemustert, und wirklich war aus Jabes in Gilead niemand da.
For when the people were numbered, look, there were none of the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead there.
10 Da sandte die Gemeinde 12.000 der tapfersten Männer dahin und befahl ihnen: "Geht hin und schlagt die Einwohner von Jabes in Gilead mit des Schwertes Schärfe, Weiber und Kinder!
The congregation sent there twelve thousand men of the most valiant, and commanded them, saying, "Go and strike the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead with the edge of the sword, with the women and the little ones.
11 Und so sollt ihr es machen: Bannt alle Mannsbilder und alle Weiber, die männliches Beilager erkannt!"
This is the thing that you shall do: you shall utterly destroy every male, and every woman who has slept with a man, but the virgins you are to keep alive." And they did so.
12 Da fanden sich unter den Einwohnern von Jabes in Gilead 400 jungfräuliche Mädchen, die noch keinen Mann in männlichem Beilager erkannt hatten. Diese brachten sie ins Lager zu Silo im Lande Kanaan.
They found among the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead four hundred young virgins who had never slept with a man; and they brought them to the camp to Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.
13 Dann sandte die ganze Gemeinde hin und verhandelte mit den Benjaminiten beim Rimmonsfelsen. Und sie entboten ihnen Frieden.
The whole congregation sent and spoke to the people of Benjamin who were in the rock of Rimmon, and proclaimed peace to them.
14 Da kehrten die Benjaminiten in jener Zeit zurück, und man gab ihnen Weiber, die man von den Weibern zu Jabes in Gilead am Leben gelassen hatte. Aber sie reichten ihnen nicht.
Benjamin returned at that time; and they gave them the women whom they had saved alive of the women of Jabesh Gilead: and yet so they weren't enough for them.
15 Da tat es dem Volk um Benjamin leid, daß der Herr einen Riß in die Stämme gemacht hatte.
The people grieved for Benjamin, because YHWH had made a gap in the tribes of Israel.
16 So sprachen die Ältesten der Gemeinde: "Wie können wir den Übriggebliebenen zu Weibern verhelfen? Sind doch aus Benjamin die Weiber ausgerottet!"
Then the elders of the congregation said, "How shall we provide wives for those who remain, since the women of Benjamin have been destroyed?"
17 Sie sprachen: "Eine Möglichkeit der Rettung gäbe es für Benjamin! Kein Stamm aus Israel darf doch getilgt werden.
They said, "How will an inheritance remain for the survivors of Benjamin, that a tribe not be blotted out from Israel.
18 Wir aber können ihnen keine Weiber aus unseren Töchtern geben; denn die Israeliten haben geschworen: 'Verflucht sei, wer Benjamin ein Weib gibt!'"
However we may not give them wives of our daughters, for the children of Israel had sworn, saying, 'Cursed is he who gives a wife to Benjamin.'"
19 Dann sprachen sie: "Das Fest des Herrn ist jedes Jahr zu Silo, nördlich von Betel, östlich der Straße von Betel nach Sichem und südlich von Lebona."
They said, "Look, there is a feast of YHWH from year to year in Shiloh, which is on the north of Bethel, on the east side of the highway that goes up from Bethel to Shechem, and on the south of Lebonah."
20 Sie rieten nun den Benjaminiten: "Geht und lauert in den Weinbergen!
They commanded the people of Benjamin, saying, "Go and lie in wait in the vineyards,
21 Seht ihr, daß Silos Töchter herauskommen, Reigen zu tanzen, dann brecht aus den Weinbergen hervor und raubt euch jeder aus Silos Töchtern ein Weib! Dann geht heim ins Land Benjamin!
and watch. If the daughters of Shiloh come out to dance in the dances, then come out of the vineyards, and each man catch his wife from the daughters of Shiloh, and go to the land of Benjamin.
22 Kommen dann ihre Väter oder Brüder, bei uns zu klagen, dann sagen wir ihnen: 'Seht es ihnen nach! Haben wir nicht im Krieg jeden seines Weibes beraubt? Hättet ihr sie ihnen gegeben, dann wäret ihr jetzt schuldig.'"
It shall be, when their fathers or their brothers come to complain to us, that we will say to them, 'Grant them graciously to us, because we didn't take wives for each man in battle, neither did you give them to them, otherwise you would now be guilty.'"
23 Die Benjaminiten taten so und holten sich aus den Tänzerinnen die nötige Zahl Weiber, die sie raubten. Dann kehrten sie in ihren Erbbesitz heim, bauten die Städte wieder auf und siedelten darin.
The people of Benjamin did so, and took them wives, according to their number, of those who danced, whom they carried off. They went and returned to their inheritance, built the cities, and lived in them.
24 Von dort gingen die Israeliten zu jener Zeit auseinander, jeder zu seinem Stamm und seiner Sippe. So zogen sie von dort ab, jeder in seinen Erbbesitz.
The children of Israel departed there at that time, every man to his tribe and to his family, and they went out from there every man to his inheritance.
25 Zu jener Zeit gab es in Israel keinen König, und jeder tat, was ihm gut dünkte.
In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.
