1 Da zogen alle Söhne Israels aus, und die Gemeinde sammelte sich wie ein Mann von Dan bis Beerseba, dazu das Land Gilead, vor dem Herrn auf der Mispa.
Then all the children of Israel went out, and the Congregation was gathered together as one man, from Dan to Beersheba, with the land of Gilead, vnto the Lord in Mizpeh.
2 Und die Vorkämpfer des ganzen Volkes, alle Stämme Israels, stellten sich ein in der Gemeinde des Gottesvolkes, 400.000 Mann zu Fuß, Schwertträger.
And the chiefe of all the people, and all the tribes of Israel assembled in the Congregation of the people of God foure hundreth thousand footemen that drewe sword.
3 Die Benjaminiten aber hörten, die Söhne Israels seien nach der Mispa gezogen. Die Söhne Israels hatten nämlich sagen lassen: "Sagt an! Wie ist diese schlimme Tat geschehen?"
(Now the children of Beniamin heard that the children of Israel were gone vp to Mizpeh) Then the children of Israel saide, Howe is this wickednesse committed?
4 Da antwortete der levitische Mann, der Mann des gemordeten Weibes, und sprach: "Ich bin mit meinem Nebenweibe nach Gibea in Benjamin gekommen zu übernachten.
And the same Leuite, the womans husband that was slaine, answered and saide, I came vnto Gibeah that is in Beniamin with my concubine to lodge,
5 Da erhoben sich Gibeas Bürger gegen mich und umringten meinetwegen nachts das Haus. Mich umzubringen, sind sie bedacht gewesen, und mein Nebenweib haben sie so vergewaltigt, daß es starb.
And the men of Gibeah arose against me, and beset the house round about vpon mee by night, thinking to haue slaine me, and haue forced my concubine that she is dead.
6 Da nahm ich mein Nebenweib, zerstückelte es und sandte es im ganzen Bereiche des israelitischen Eigenbesitzes umher. Denn sie haben in Israel Niedertracht und Schandtat begangen.
Then I tooke my concubine, and cut her in pieces, and sent her throughout all the countrey of the inheritance of Israel: for they haue committed abomination and villenie in Israel.
7 Wohlan! Ihr Söhne Israels insgesamt! Schafft hier Bescheid und Rat!"
Behold, ye are al children of Israel: giue your aduise, and counsell herein.
8 Da erhob sich das ganze Volk wie ein Mann und sprach: "Keiner gehe in sein Zelt! Keiner nach Hause!
Then all the people arose as one man, saying, There shall not a man of vs goe to his tent, neither any turne into his house.
9 Nun denn! Das ist es, was wir mit Gibea tun wollen: 'Nach dem Lose über sie her!'
But now this is that thing which we will do to Gibeah: we wil goe vp by lot against it,
10 Wir nehmen zehn Mann von hundert aus allen Stämmen Israels, hundert von tausend und tausend von zehntausend. Sie sollen Zehrung für das Kriegsvolk schaffen, auf daß das Volk gegen Gibea in Benjamin ziehe, nach der Schandtat, die es in Israel verübte!"
And we wil take ten men of the hundreth throughout al the tribes of Israel, and an hundreth of the thousand, and a thousand of ten thousand to bring vitaile for the people that they may do (when they come to Gibeah of Beniamin) according to all the villeny, that it hath done in Israel.
11 Da brachte alle Mannschaft Israels wie ein Mann Zehrung in die Stadt.
So all the men of Israel were gathered against the citie, knit together, as one man.
12 Dann sandten die Stämme Israels Männer zum ganzen Benjaminstamm mit der Botschaft: "Welch eine Untat ist bei euch geschehen?
And the tribes of Israel sent men through al the tribe of Beniamin, saying, What wickednesse is this that is committed among you?
13 Gebt die Männer heraus, die Teufelsbuben, in Gibea, daß wir sie töten und das Schlimme aus Israel tilgen!" Aber die Benjaminiten wollten nicht auf die Stimme ihrer israelitischen Brüder hören.
Nowe therefore deliuer vs those wicked men which are in Gibeah, that we may put them to death, and put away euill from Israel: but the children of Beniamin would not obey the voyce of their brethren the children of Israel.
14 Und die Benjaminiten aus den anderen Städten versammelten sich in Gibea, gegen die Israeliten in den Kampf zu ziehen.
But ye children of Beniamin gathered them selues together out of the cities vnto Gibeah, to come out and fight against the children of Israel.
15 Und die Benjaminiten aus den Städten wurden an jenem Tag gemustert, 26.000 Schwertbewaffnete, außer Gibeas Einwohnern. Dann wurden 700 Auserlesene gemustert.
And ye children of Beniamin were nombred at that time out of the cities sixe and twenty thousand men that drewe sworde, beside the inhabitants of Gibeah, which were nombred seuen hundreth chosen men.
16 Von all diesem Volk waren 700 Auserlesene linkshändig. Jeder von ihnen schleuderte mit Steinen haarscharf, ohne zu fehlen.
Of all this people were seuen hundreth chosen men, being left handed: all these could sling stones at an heare breadth, and not faile.
17 Auch Israels Mannschaft ward gemustert. Ohne Benjamin waren es 400.000 Schwertbewaffnete, lauter Kriegsleute.
Also the men of Israel, beside Beniamin, were nombred foure hundreth thousande men that drew sword, euen all men of warre.
18 Sie erhoben sich nun und zogen nach Betel hinauf und befragten Gott. Die Israeliten fragten: "Wer von uns zieht zuerst zum Kampfe wider die Benjaminiten hinauf?" Der Herr sprach: "Juda zuerst!"
And the children of Israel arose, and went vp to the house of God, and asked of God, saying, Which of vs shall goe vp first to fight against the children of Beniamin? And the Lord said, Iudah shalbe first.
19 Am Morgen erhoben sich die Israeliten und lagerten gegen Gibea.
Then the children of Israel arose vp earely and camped against Gibeah.
20 Da zog Israels Mannschaft zum Kampfe gegen Benjamin bei Gibea. Israels Mannschaft aber bot ihnen den Kampf an.
And the men of Israel went out to battell against Beniamin, and the men of Israel put themselues in aray to fight against the beside Gibeah.
21 Da rückten die Benjaminiten aus Gibea und streckten an jenem Tage von Israel 22.000 Mann nieder.
And the children of Beniamin came out of Gibeah, and slewe downe to the ground of the Israelites that day two and twentie thousand men.
22 Da ermannte sich das Kriegsvolk, Israels Mannschaft, und bot ihnen nochmals den Kampf an, am selben Platze, wo sie ihn am ersten Tage angeboten hatten.
And the people, the men of Israel plucked vp their hearts, and set their battel againe in aray in the place where they put them in aray the first day.
23 Dann gingen die Israeliten hinauf und weinten vor dem Herrn bis zum Abend. Dann befragten sie den Herrn und sprachen: "Soll ich noch einmal zum Kampf gegen meinen Bruder Benjamin ausrücken?" Der Herr sprach: "Zieht gegen sie!"
(For the children of Israel had gone vp and wept before the Lord vnto the euening, and had asked of the Lord, saying, Shall I goe againe to battel against the children of Beniamin my brethren? and the Lord said, Go vp against them)
24 Am zweiten Tage nun zogen die Israeliten gegen die Benjaminiten.
Then the children of Israel came neere against the children of Beniamin the second day.
25 Und am zweiten Tage zog ihnen Benjamin aus Gibea entgegen und streckte von den Israeliten abermals 18.000 Mann nieder, lauter Schwertbewaffnete.
Also the second day Beniamin came forth to meete them out of Gibeah, and slewe downe to the grounde of the children of Israel againe eighteene thousand men: all they could handle the sword.
26 Da gingen alle Israeliten, und zwar das gesamte Kriegsvolk, hinauf. Sie kamen nach Betel und weinten und saßen dort vor dem Herrn und fasteten an jenem Tage bis Abend. Dann brachten sie Brand- und Mahlopfer vor dem Herrn dar.
Then al the children of Israel went vp and all the people came also vnto the house of God, and wept and sate there before the Lord and fasted that day vnto the euening, and offred burnt offrings and peace offrings before the Lord.
27 Darauf befragten die Israeliten den Herrn. Denn dort war zu jener Zeit die Bundeslade Gottes.
And the children of Israel asked the Lord (for there was the Arke of the couenat of God in those dayes,
28 Zu jener Zeit diente ihm Pinechas, Eleazars Sohn und Aarons Enkel. Sie sprachen: "Soll ich noch einmal zum Kampf gegen meinen Bruder Benjamin ziehen oder soll ich es lassen?" Der Herr sprach: "Zieht aus! Denn morgen gebe ich ihn in deine Hand."
And Phinehas the sonne of Eleazar, the sonne of Aaron stoode before it at that time) saying, Shall I yet goe anie more to battel against the children of Beniamin my brethren, or shall I cease? And the Lord said, Go vp: for to morowe I will deliuer them into your hand.
29 Nun legte Israel einen Hinterhalt rings um Gibea.
And Israel set men to lie in waite round about Gibeah.
30 Dann zogen die Israeliten gegen die Benjaminiten am dritten Tage und stellten sich wider Gibea wie die vorigen Male auf.
And the children of Israel went vp against the children of Beniamin the third day, and put theselues in aray against Gibeah, as at other times.
31 Da rückten die Benjaminiten dem Kriegsvolk entgegen. Sie ließen sich aber von der Stadt weglocken und begannen, wie die vorigen Male, einige vom Kriegsvolk zu erschlagen auf den Straßen, deren eine nach Betel und die andere nach Gibea führt, auf freiem Felde, gegen dreißig Mann von Israel.
Then the children of Beniamin comming out against the people, were drawen from the citie: and they began to smite of ye people and kill as at other times, euen by the wayes in the fielde (whereof one goeth vp to the house of God, and the other to Gibeah) vpon a thirtie men of Israel.
32 Da dachten die Benjaminiten: "Sie werden von uns geschlagen wie das erstemal." Die Israeliten aber hatten gesagt: "Laßt uns fliehen, daß wir sie von der Stadt nach den Straßen locken."
(For the children of Beniamin sayd, They are fallen before vs, as at the first. But the children of Israel saide, Let vs flee and plucke them away from the citie vnto the hie wayes)
33 Da erhob sich Israels ganze Mannschaft aus ihrem Ort und stellte sich bei Baal Tamar auf. Dann brach Israel aus seinem Standort im Hinterhalt hervor, aus einer Waldlichtung bei Geba.
And all the men of Israel rose vp out of their place, and put themselues in aray at Baal-tamar: and the men that lay in wayte of the Israelites came forth of their place, euen out of the medowes of Gibeah,
34 So kamen, Gibea gegenüber, 10.000 aus ganz Israel erlesene Männer heran. Und der Kampf ward heftig. Sie wußten aber nicht, daß das Verderben ihnen nahte.
And they came ouer against Gibeah, ten thousande chosen men of all Israel, and the battell was sore: for they knewe not that the euill was neere them.
35 So schlug der Herr durch Israel Benjamin. Und die Israeliten schlugen an jenem Tag von Benjamin 25.100 Mann, lauter Schwertbewaffnete.
And the Lord smote Beniamin before Israel, and the children of Israel destroyed of the Beniamites the same day fiue and twenty thousand and an hundreth men: all they could handle the sword.
36 Die Benjaminiten sahen nun, daß sie geschlagen waren. Israels Mannschaft aber gab Benjamin Raum, weil sie sich auf den Hinterhalt verließen, den sie bei Gibea gelegt hatten.
So the children of Beniamin sawe that they were striken downe: for the men of Israel gaue place to the Beniamites, because they trusted to the men that lay in waite, which they had laide beside Gibeah.
37 Nun brach plötzlich der Hinterhalt vor und schwärmte gegen Gibea aus. Und der Hinterhalt rückte vor und schlug die ganze Stadt mit des Schwertes Schärfe.
And they that lay in wait hasted, and brake forth toward Gibeah, and the ambushment drewe themselues along, and smote all the citie with the edge of the sword.
38 Die Mannschaft Israels aber hatte mit dem Hinterhalt, der einfallen sollte, eine Abmachung getroffen, er solle eine starke Rauchsäule aus der Stadt aufsteigen lassen.
Also the men of Israel had appoynted a certaine time with the ambushmentes, that they should make a great flame and smoke rise vp out of the citie.
39 Nun wandte Israels Mannschaft sich im Kampf, und Benjamin begann, schon etliche der Mannschaft Israels, etwa dreißig Mann, zu erschlagen; denn sie dachten: Sie erliegen uns wie in der ersten Schlacht.
And when the men of Israel retired in the battel, Beniamin began to smite and kill of the men of Israel about thirtie persons: for they said, Surely they are striken downe before vs, as in the first battell.
40 Da begann der Brand, und aus der Stadt stieg eine Rauchsäule auf. Als Benjamin zurückschaute, war die ganze Stadt himmelhoch in Flammen aufgegangen.
But when the flame bega to arise out of the citie, as a pillar of smoke, the Beniamites looked backe, and behold, the flame of the citie began to ascend vp to heauen.
41 Israels Mannschaft aber hatte kehrt gemacht; so ward Benjamins Mannschaft verwirrt. Denn sie sahen, daß sie das Verderben ereilt hatte.
Then the men of Israel turned againe, and the men of Beniamin were astonied: for they saw that euill was neere vnto them.
42 So wandten sie sich vor Israels Mannschaft auf den Weg zur Wüste. Der Kampf hatte sich an sie geheftet, und die aus der Vorhut setzten ihnen zu.
Therefore they fled before the men of Israel vnto the way of the wildernesse, but the battell ouertooke them: also they which came out of the cities, slew them among them.
43 Inzwischen hatten sie Benjamin umzingelt, verfolgt und mühelos niedergekämpft bis östlich Gibea gegenüber.
Thus they compassed the Beniamites about, and chased them at ease, and ouerranne them, euen ouer against Gibeah on the Eastside.
44 Dabei fielen von Benjamin 18.000 Mann, lauter tapfere Männer.
And there were slaine of Beniamin eyghteene thousad men, which were all men of warre.
45 Sie wandten sich zur Flucht nach der Wüste gegen den Rimmonfelsen hin. Jene aber hielten auf den Straßen unter ihnen eine Nachlese von fünftausend Mann und verfolgten sie bis zur Vernichtung und schlugen von ihnen noch zweitausend Mann.
And they turned and fled to the wildernes vnto the rocke of Rimmon: and the Israelites glayned of them by the way fiue thousand men, and pursued after them vnto Gidom, and slewe two thousand men of them,
46 So waren aus Benjamin an jenem Tag insgesamt 25.000 Schwertbewaffnete gefallen, lauter tapfere Männer.
So that all that were slayne that day of Beniamin, were fiue and twentie thousand men that drewe sword, which were all men of warre:
47 Sie wandten sich nun und flohen nach der Wüste gegen den Rimmonfelsen hin, sechshundert Mann. Und sie blieben beim Rimmonfelsen vier Monate.
But sixe hundreth men turned and fled to the wildernesse vnto the rocke of Rimmon, and abode in the rocke of Rimmon foure moneths.
48 Israels Mannschaft aber kehrte zu den anderen Benjaminiten zurück und schlug sie mit des Schwertes Schärfe, außerhalb der Städte, von den Männern bis zum Vieh, alles, was sich vorfand. Auch alle vorgefundenen Städte steckten sie in Brand.
Then the men of Israel returned vnto the children of Beniamin, and smote them with the edge of the sword from the men of the citie vnto the beasts, and all that came to hand: also they set on fire all the cities that they coulde come by.
