Josua 22

1 Damals berief Josue die Rubeniten, die Gaditen und den Halbstamm Manasse

Then Joshua called the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh,

2 und sprach zu ihnen: "Ihr habt alles befolgt, was euch des Herrn Diener, Moses, befohlen hat. Ihr gehorchtet meiner Stimme in allem, was ich euch geheißen.

and said to them, "You have kept all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, and have listened to my voice in all that I commanded you.

3 Ihr habt eure Brüder diese lange Zeit hindurch nicht verlassen. Bis auf diesen Tag beobachtet ihr treulich die gebieterische Verpflichtung des Herrn, eures Gottes.

You have not left your brothers these many days to this day, but have performed the duty of the commandment of the LORD your God.

4 Nun hat der Herr, euer Gott, euren Brüdern Ruhe verliehen, wie er ihnen verheißen hat. Kehrt nun heim, dahin, wo euer Erbbesitz liegt, den euch des Herrn Diener, Moses, jenseits des Jordan gegeben!

Now the LORD your God has given rest to your brothers, as he spoke to them. Therefore now return and go to your tents, to the land of your possession, which Moses the servant of the LORD gave you beyond the Jordan.

5 Nur seid bemüht, das Gebot und die Weisung zu tun, die euch des Herrn Diener, Moses, gegeben. Ihr sollt den Herrn, euren Gott, lieben, immer auf seinen Wegen wandeln, seine Gebote befolgen, ihm anhangen und ihm von ganzem Herzen und aus ganzer Seele dienen!"

Only take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law which Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, to love the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to keep his commandments, to hold fast to him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul."

6 Und Josue segnete und entließ sie. So kehrten sie heim.

So Joshua blessed them, and sent them away; and they went to their tents.

7 Der einen Hälfte des Manassestammes aber hatte Moses Besitz in Basan gegeben, der anderen Hälfte aber Josue bei ihren Brüdern westlich des Jordan. Auch sie hatte Josue mit Segenswünschen zu ihren Zelten entlassen.

Now to the one half-tribe of Manasseh Moses had given inheritance in Bashan; but to the other half gave Joshua among their brothers beyond the Jordan westward. Moreover when Joshua sent them away to their tents, he blessed them,

8 Er sprach zu ihnen: "Kehrt mit viel Schätzen zu euren Zelten zurück, mit sehr viel Herden, mit Silber und Gold, Kupfer und Eisen und Gewändern in großer Menge! Teilet die Beute eurer Feinde mit euren Brüdern!"

and spoke to them, saying, "Return with much wealth to your tents, with very much livestock, with silver, with gold, with bronze, with iron, and with very much clothing. Divide the spoil of your enemies with your brothers."

9 So kehrten die Rubeniten heim, die Gaditen und der Halbstamm Manasse, und zogen von den Israeliten weg aus Silo im Lande Kanaan. Sie wollten in das Gileadland ziehen, in ihr Erbbesitzland, wo sie nach dem Befehl des Herrn an Moses angesiedelt waren.

The descendants of Reuben and the descendants of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh returned, and departed from the children of Israel out of Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan, to go to the land of Gilead, to the land of their possession, which they owned, according to the commandment of the LORD by Moses.

10 So kamen sie am Jordan zu den Steinkreisen, die im Lande Kanaan waren. Da bauten dort die Rubeniten, Gaditen und der Halbstamm Manasse am Jordan einen weithin sichtbaren Altar.

When they came to the region about the Jordan, that is in the land of Canaan, the descendants of Reuben and the descendants of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh built there an altar by the Jordan, a great altar to look at.

11 Da hörten die Israeliten die Kunde, die Rubeniten, Gaditen und der Halbstamm Manasse hätten den Altar gebaut gegenüber dem Lande Kanaan an den Steinkreisen des Jordan jenseits der Söhne Israels.

The children of Israel heard this, "Look, the descendants of Reuben and the descendants of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh have built an altar in the forefront of the land of Canaan, in the region about the Jordan, on the side that pertains to the children of Israel."

12 Als die Israeliten dies hörten, versammelte sich die israelitische Gesamtgemeinde zu Silo, jene zu bekriegen.

When the children of Israel heard of it, the whole congregation of the children of Israel gathered themselves together at Shiloh, to go up against them to war.

13 Und die Israeliten sandten an die Rubeniten, Gaditen und den Halbstamm Manasse in das Land Gilead den Sohn des Priesters Eleazar, Pinechas,

The children of Israel sent to the descendants of Reuben, and to the descendants of Gad, and to the half-tribe of Manasseh, into the land of Gilead, Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest,

14 nebst zehn Fürsten, je einen aus jedem Stamme Israels. Jeder war ein Oberhaupt israelitischer Stammesfamilien.

and with him ten princes, one prince of a fathers' house for each of the tribes of Israel; and every one of them heads of ancestral houses among the thousands of Israel.

15 So kamen sie zu den Rubeniten, Gaditen und dem Halbstamm Manasse ins Land Gilead und sprachen zu ihnen:

They came to the descendants of Reuben, and to the descendants of Gad, and to the half-tribe of Manasseh, to the land of Gilead, and they spoke with them, saying,

16 "So spricht die ganze Gemeinde des Herrn: 'Was bedeutet diese Untreue, die ihr am Gott Israels tut, euch heute vom Herrn abzuwenden, euch heute einen Altar zu bauen und so euch gegen den Herrn zu empören?

"Thus says the whole congregation of the LORD, 'What trespass is this that you have committed against the God of Israel, to turn away this day from following the LORD, in that you have built you an altar, to rebel this day against the LORD?

17 Ist uns der Peorfrevel zu gering? Davon haben wir uns bis heute noch nicht gereinigt, und deshalb kam über die Gemeinde des Herrn die Plage.

Is the iniquity of Peor too little for us, from which we have not cleansed ourselves to this day, although there came a plague on the congregation of the LORD,

18 Und ihr wendet euch heute vom Herrn ab? So ist es: Heute empört ihr euch gegen den Herrn, und Morgen entlädt sich sein Zorn über die ganze Gemeinde Israels.

that you must turn away this day from following the LORD? It will be, seeing that you rebel today against the LORD, that tomorrow he will be angry with the whole congregation of Israel.

19 Ist aber euer Erbbesitzland unrein, dann zieht in das Erbbesitzland des Herrn hinüber, wo des Herrn Wohnung aufgeschlagen ist, und laßt euch bei uns nieder! Doch empört euch nicht gegen den Herrn! Aber auch uns verwickelt nicht in eure Empörung, wenn ihr außer dem Altar des Herrn, unseres Gottes, noch einen anderen bauet!

However, if the land of your possession is unclean, then pass over to the land of the possession of the LORD, in which the LORD's tabernacle dwells, and take possession among us; but do not rebel against the LORD, nor rebel against us, in building an altar other than the altar of the LORD our God.

20 Ist nicht über die ganze Gemeinde ein Zorn gekommen, als sich Akan, Zerachs Sohn, am Banngut vergriffen hatte, und doch war er nur ein einzelner? Hat er nicht seiner Sünde wegen sterben müssen?'"

Did not Achan the son of Zerah commit a trespass in the devoted thing, and wrath fell on all the congregation of Israel? That man did not perish alone in his iniquity.'"

21 Da sprachen die Rubeniten, Gaditen und der Halbstamm Manasse zu den Stammeshäuptern Israels:

Then the descendants of Reuben and the descendants of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh answered, and spoke to the heads of the thousands of Israel,

22 "Beim Gott der Götter, dem Herrn! Der Götter Gott, der Herr, weiß es, und Israel selbst wisse es! Geschah es in Untreue und Empörung, dann hilf uns heute nicht!

"El, God, the LORD. El, God, the LORD. He knows; and Israel shall know. If it was in rebellion, or if in trespass against the LORD, do not save us this day,

23 Bauten wir einen Altar, um vom Herrn abzufallen und um darauf Brand- und Speiseopfer zu opfern und um darauf Mahlopfer zu machen, dann soll es der Herr selbst ahnden!

that we have built us an altar to turn away from following the LORD; or if to offer burnt offering or meal offering, or if to offer sacrifices of peace offerings, let the LORD himself require it.

24 Ob wir dies nicht aus Sorge vor etwas getan? Wir dachten nämlich, eure Söhne könnten später zu unseren Söhnen sprechen: 'Was geht euch der Herr, Israels Gott, an?

If we have not out of concern done this, and for a reason, saying, 'In time to come your descendants might speak to our descendants, saying, "What have you to do with the LORD, the God of Israel?

25 Hat doch der Herr den Jordan zur Grenze zwischen uns und euch gesetzt, ihr Rubeniten und Gaditen. Ihr habt am Herrn kein Teil.' So könnten eure Söhne die unsrigen so weit bringen, daß sie nicht mehr den Herrn fürchten.

For the LORD has made the Jordan a border between us and you, you descendants of Reuben and descendants of Gad. You have no portion in the LORD."' So your children might make our children cease from fearing the LORD.

26 Darum sagten wir: 'Wir wollen uns durch den Bau des Altares vorsehen. Nicht für Brand- und Schlachtopfer,

Therefore we said, 'Let's now prepare to build ourselves an altar, not for burnt offering, nor for sacrifice;

27 sondern zum Zeugen sei er uns und euch und unseren Nachkommen, daß wir vor ihm den Dienst des Herrn tun wollen durch unsere Brand-, Schlacht- und Dankopfer, und daß künftig nicht eure Söhne zu den unsrigen sprechen: "Ihr habt kein Teil am Herrn."'

but it will be a witness between us and you, and between our generations after us, that we may perform the service of the LORD before him with our burnt offerings, with our sacrifices, and with our peace offerings;' that your descendants may not tell our descendants in time to come, 'You have no portion in the LORD.'

28 Wir sagten: 'Sollten sie künftig so zu uns oder unseren Nachkommen sprechen, dann sagen wir: "Schaut die Bauart des Herrnaltares, den unsere Väter gebaut! Gemacht nicht für Brandopfer noch für Schlachtopfer, sondern nur zum Zeugen für uns und euch."

Therefore we said, 'It shall be, when they tell us or our generations this in time to come, that we shall say, "Look the pattern of the altar of the LORD, which our fathers made, not for burnt offering, nor for sacrifice; but it is a witness between us and you."'

29 Ferne sei es uns, gegen den Herrn uns zu empören und heute vom Herrn abzufallen und für Brand-, Speise- und Schlachtopfer vor seiner Wohnung noch einen anderen Altar zu bauen, außer des Herrn, unseres Gottes, Altar.'"

Far be it from us that we should rebel against the LORD, and turn away this day from following the LORD, to build an altar for burnt offering, for meal offering, or for sacrifice, besides the altar of the LORD our God that is before his tabernacle."

30 Als der Priester Pinechas und die Fürsten der Gemeinde, die Häupter der israelitischen Stämme bei ihm, die Worte hörten, die die Rubeniten, Gaditen und Manassiten redeten, gefiel es ihnen.

When Phinehas the priest, and the leaders of the congregation, even the heads of the thousands of Israel that were with him, heard the words that the descendants of Reuben and the descendants of Gad and the descendants of Manasseh spoke, it pleased them well.

31 Und Pinechas, der Sohn des Priesters Eleazar, sprach zu den Rubeniten, Gaditen und Manassiten: "Heute erfahren wir, daß der Herr in unserer Mitte weilt, weil ihr keine Untreue gegen den Herrn getan. Damit habt ihr die Israeliten vor der Hand des Herrn bewahrt."

Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest said to the descendants of Reuben, to the descendants of Gad, and to the descendants of Manasseh, "Today we know that the LORD is in the midst of us, because you have not committed this trespass against the LORD. Now you have delivered the children of Israel out of the hand of the LORD."

32 Dann kehrten Pinechas, der Sohn des Priesters Eleazar, und die Fürsten aus dem Lande Gilead von den Rubeniten und Gaditen ins Land Kanaan zu den Israeliten zurück und brachten ihnen Bescheid.

And Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, and the leaders, returned from the descendants of Reuben, and from the descendants of Gad, out of the land of Gilead, to the land of Canaan, to the children of Israel, and brought them word again.

33 Und die Sache gefiel den Israeliten. Da priesen die Israeliten Gott und dachten nicht mehr daran, sie zu bekriegen und das Land, in dem die Rubeniten und Gaditen saßen, zu verwüsten.

The thing pleased the children of Israel; and the children of Israel blessed God, and spoke no more of going up against them to war, to destroy the land in which the descendants of Reuben and the descendants of Gad lived.

34 Die Rubeniten und Gaditen aber rühmten von dem Altar: "Er ist unter uns Zeuge, daß der Herr Gott ist."

The descendants of Reuben and the descendants of Gad called the altar: "A witness between us that the LORD is God."
