Johannes 14
1 "Euer Herz sei nicht bange! Ihr glaubt an Gott, glaubt auch an mich!
“Do not let your (pl) heart be distressed; you believe into God and you believe into me.
2 Im Hause meines Vaters gibt es viele Wohnungen. Und wäre es nicht so, dann hätte ich es euch gesagt; ich gehe hin, euch eine Stätte zu bereiten.
In my Father's house are many dwellings (otherwise I would have told you). I am going away to prepare a place for you.
3 Wenn ich dann hingegangen bin und euch eine Stätte bereitet habe, dann komme ich wieder und hole euch zu mir, damit auch ihr da seid, wo ich bin.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and take you to myself, so that where I am you may be also.
4 Den Weg kennt ihr, wohin ich gehe."
Now you know where I am going, and you know the way.”
5 Da sagte Thomas zu ihm: , Herr, wir wissen nicht, wohin du gehst. Wie sollten wir da den Weg kennen?"
Thomas says to Him, “Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
6 Jesus sprach zu ihm: "Ich bin der Weg, die Wahrheit und das Leben. Niemand kommt zum Vater als durch mich.
Jesus says to him: “I am the Way and the Truth and the Life. No one goes to the Father except through me.
7 Wenn ihr mich kenntet, so würdet ihr auch meinen Vater kennen. Jedoch von nun an kennt ihr ihn, ihr habt ihn ja gesehen."
If you had known me, you would have known my Father as well; from now on you both know Him and have seen Him.”
8 Da sprach Philippus zu ihm: "Herr, zeige uns den Vater, und das ist uns genug."
Philip says to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.”
9 Und Jesus sprach zu ihm: "So lange schon bin ich bei euch, und du kennst mich immer noch nicht, Philippus? Wer mich gesehen hat, der hat auch den Vater gesehen. Wie kannst du sagen: 'Zeige uns den Vater?'
Jesus says to him: “Such a long time I have been with you, and you have not known me, Philip? He who has seen me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
10 Glaubst du denn nicht, daß ich im Vater bin und daß der Vater in mir ist? Die Worte, die ich zu euch rede, sage ich nicht aus mir selber; der Vater, der in mir bleibt, vollbringt die Werke selber.
Don't you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own; rather it is the Father who dwells in me who does the works.
11 Glaubt mir, daß ich im Vater bin und daß der Vater in mir ist. Wenn nicht, so glaubt wenigstens der Werke wegen.
Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or else, believe me because of the works themselves.
12 Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Wer an mich glaubt, der wird die Werke, die ich vollbringe, ebenso vollbringen; ja, noch größere wird er vollbringen; ich gehe ja zum Vater.
“Most assuredly I say to you, the one believing into me, he too will do the works that I do; in fact he will do greater works than these, because I am going to my Father.
13 Um was immer ihr in meinem Namen den Vater bitten werdet, das will ich tun, damit der Vater im Sohn verherrlicht werde.
Further, whatever you (pl) may ask in my name, that I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 Um was ihr mich in meinem Namen bitten werdet, das will ich tun.
If you ask anything in my name, I will do it!
15 Wenn ihr mich liebt, werdet ihr meine Gebote halten
If you love me, keep my commandments.
16 Ich will den Vater bitten, und er wird euch einen anderen Beistand verleihen, damit er in Ewigkeit bei euch bleibe: (aiōn g165)
Also, I will ask the Father and He will give you another Enabler, so that He may stay with you throughout the age (aiōn g165)
17 den Geist der Wahrheit. Die Welt kann ihn nicht empfangen, weil sie ihn weder sieht noch kennt. Ihr aber kennt ihn; er bleibt bei euch und wird in euch sein.
—the Spirit of the Truth, whom the world is unable to receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you do know Him, because He is staying with you and will be in you.
18 Ich lasse euch nicht als Waisen zurück; ich komme zu euch.
“I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you [shortly].
19 Nur noch eine kleine Weile, dann sieht die Welt mich nicht mehr; ihr aber seht mich, weil ich lebe und ihr leben werdet.
In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me. Because I live you also will live.
20 An jenem Tage werdet ihr verstehen, daß ich in meinem Vater bin und daß ihr in mir seid und ich in euch bin.
In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.
21 Wer meine Gebote hat und sie bewahrt, der ist es, der mich liebt. Wer mich liebt, der wird von meinem Vater geliebt werden, und auch ich will ihn lieben und mich ihm offenbaren."
The one who has my commandments and keeps them, he is the one who loves me. Now the one who loves me will be loved by my Father; and I will love him, and reveal myself to him.”
22 Da fragte ihn Judas, nicht der Iskariot: "Herr, wie kommt es denn, daß du dich uns und nicht der Welt offenbaren willst?"
Judas (not the Iscariot) says to Him, “Lord, just how is it that You are going to reveal Yourself to us and not to the world?”
23 Und Jesus sprach zu ihm: "Wer mich liebt, der wird mein Wort bewahren; ihn wird mein Vater lieben; zu diesem kommen wir und nehmen bei ihm Wohnung.
Jesus answered and said to him: “If anyone loves me he will keep my word. So my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.
24 Wer aber mich nicht liebt, bewahrt auch meine Worte nicht. Jedoch das Wort, das ihr vernehmt, ist nicht das meinige, vielmehr ist es das Wort dessen, der mich gesandt hat, des Vaters.
The one who does not love me does not keep my words; further, the word which you hear is not mine but the Father's who sent me.
25 Dies habe ich zu euch gesagt, da ich noch bei euch weile.
“I have spoken these things to you while being with you.
26 Jedoch der Heilige Geist, der Beistand, den der Vater in meinem Namen senden wird, wird euch alles lehren und euch an alles erinnern, was ich euch gesagt habe.
But the Enabler, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, He will teach you all things and remind you of everything I said to you.
27 Frieden hinterlasse ich euch, meinen Frieden gebe ich euch. Nicht wie die Welt gibt, gebe ich euch. Euer Herz sei nicht bange und verzage nicht.
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you; it is not like the world gives that I give to you. Do not let your heart be distressed or intimidated.
28 Ihr habt gehört, daß ich zu euch gesagt habe: Ich gehe, doch ich komme wiederum zu euch. Wenn ihr mich liebtet, so würdet ihr euch freuen, daß ich zum Vater gehe; denn der Vater ist größer als ich.
“You heard me say to you, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me you would have been glad that I said, ‘I am going to the Father,’ because my Father is greater than I.
29 Ich habe es euch jetzt gesagt, ehe es geschieht, damit ihr glaubt, sobald es einmal eingetroffen ist.
I have told you now, before it happens, so that when it does happen you may believe.
30 Ich werde nicht mehr vieles zu euch reden; denn es kommt der Fürst der Welt. Er hat zwar kein Anrecht an mich;
“I will no longer talk much with you, because the ruler of the world is approaching; actually, he has nothing in me.
31 die Welt jedoch soll erkennen, daß ich den Vater liebe und so handle, wie mir der Vater aufgetragen hat. Wohlan, laßt uns von hier weggehen!"
Rather, I habitually do just as the Father commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. “Get up, let us leave here.
