Job 21
1 Darauf erwidert Job und spricht:
But Job answered and said,
2 "Mögt ihr auf meine Rede nochmals hören, und wär's zu eurem Zeitvertreib!
Hear diligently my speech, and let this be your consolations.
3 Ertragt mich! Laßt mich, reden! Dann scheltet nur, wenn ich geredet!
Suffer me that I may speak; and after that I have spoken, mock on.
4 Erhebe ich denn gegen einen Menschen Klage? Oder - warum soll ich nicht ungeduldig werden dürfen?
As for me, [is] my complaint to man? and if [it were so], why should not my spirit be troubled?
5 Zu mir kehrt euch, erstarret! Die Hand legt auf den Mund!
Mark me, and be astonished, and lay [your] hand upon [your] mouth.
6 Ich werde ganz erschüttert, denke ich daran; an Leib und Seele zittere ich.
Even when I remember I am afraid, and trembling taketh hold on my flesh.
7 Wie kommt's, daß Frevler leben dürfen und alternd noch an Kräften wachsen?
Wherefore do the wicked live, become old, yea, are mighty in power?
8 Bei ihnen bleibt ihr Stamm, und er gedeiht, solang sie leben, und stets vor Augen bleiben ihnen ihre Sprößlinge.
Their seed is established in their sight with them, and their offspring before their eyes.
9 Und sicher vor Gefahr sind ihre Häuser; die Gottesrute trifft sie nicht.
Their houses [are] safe from fear, neither [is] the rod of God upon them.
10 Sein Stier bespringt und läßt es nicht entgleiten, und seine Kuh kalbt leicht und tut nicht eine Fehlgeburt.-
Their bull gendereth, and faileth not; their cow calveth, and casteth not her calf.
11 Gleich einer Herde lassen sie die Kinderschar hinaus, und munter hüpfen ihre Jungen.
They send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance.
12 Sie spielen froh zu Pauken und zu Zithern und freuen sich beim Flötenschalle.
They take the timbrel and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the organ.
They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave. (Sheol h7585)
14 und sagen doch zu Gott: 'Du bleib uns fern!' 'Wir wollen nichts von Deinen Wegen wissen!'
Therefore they say unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways.
15 'Was soll es, daß wir dem Allmächtigen dienen? Was nützt es uns, ihn bittend anzugehen?'
What [is] the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him?
16 Nun, läge nicht ihr Glück in ihrer Hand, dann wäre mir das Planen dieser Frevler unbegreiflich.
Lo, their good [is] not in their hand: the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
17 Wie oft erlischt der Frevler Leuchte und überfällt sie ihr Verderben? Wie oft teilt er in seinem Zorne Schmerzen aus? -
How oft is the candle of the wicked put out! and [how oft] cometh their destruction upon them! [God] distributeth sorrows in his anger.
18 Sie sollen werden wie das Stroh vorm Winde, wie Spreu, vom Sturm entführt!
They are as stubble before the wind, and as chaff that the storm carrieth away.
19 'Gott hat sein Unheil eben dessen Kindern aufgespart.' Er zahle ihm es heim, daß er es selber fühle!
God layeth up his iniquity for his children: he rewardeth him, and he shall know [it].
20 Er selber sollte seinen Becher kosten und von dem Grimm des Höchsten trinken müssen!
His eyes shall see his destruction, and he shall drink of the wrath of the Almighty.
21 Was braucht ihn denn zu kümmern, wie's seinem Haus nach seinem Tode geht, wenn seiner Monde Zahl zu Ende ist?
For what pleasure [hath] he in his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off in the midst?
22 Kann man denn Gott das Wissen lehren, da er doch von der Höhe aus verfügt?
Shall [any] teach God knowledge? seeing he judgeth those that are high.
23 Der eine stirbt in vollem Glücke, ganz ruhig, wohlgemut.
One dieth in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet.
24 Von Fett sind seine Lenden voll; sein Körper wird mit Mark getränkt.
His breasts are full of milk, and his bones are moistened with marrow.
25 Der andre stirbt verzweiflungsvoll, hat niemals von dem Glück gekostet.
And another dieth in the bitterness of his soul, and never eateth with pleasure.
26 Zusammen liegen sie im Staube; Gewürm deckt beide zu.
They shall lie down alike in the dust, and the worms shall cover them.
27 Ich kenne eure Meinung wohl; ihr ziehet an den Haaren Gründe gegen mich herbei.
Behold, I know your thoughts, and the devices [which] ye wrongfully imagine against me.
28 Ihr sagt: 'In welcher Lage ist das Haus des edlen Mannes?' 'In welcher ist das Wohngezelt der Frevler?'
For ye say, Where [is] the house of the prince? and where [are] the dwelling places of the wicked?
29 Befragt ihr nicht die Leute, die auf den Lauf der Welten achten? Und ihre Zeugnisse könnt ihr nicht ablehnen.
Have ye not asked them that go by the way? and do ye not know their tokens,
30 Der Frevler bleibt vom Unheilstag verschont, vom Tag, wo Steuern eingetrieben werden.
That the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.
31 Wer hält ihm seinen Wandel vor, und wer vergilt ihm, was er tat?
Who shall declare his way to his face? and who shall repay him [what] he hath done?
32 Er wird zu Grab getragen, und auf dem Grabespolster ruht er ungestört.
Yet shall he be brought to the grave, and shall remain in the tomb.
33 Des Grabes Schollen sind ihm süß. So lockt er alle Welt sich nach, und vor ihm schreiten Zahllose einher.
The clods of the valley shall be sweet unto him, and every man shall draw after him, as [there are] innumerable before him.
34 Wie leer ist euer Trost! Und eure Antworten sind unaufrichtig."
How then comfort ye me in vain, seeing in your answers there remaineth falsehood?
