Jeremia 4

1 "Ja, wenn du umkehrst, Israel", ein Spruch des Herrn, "zu mir umkehrst, entfernst du meinetwegen deine Scheusale, ganz ohne Zaudern,

O Israel, if thou returne, returne vnto me, saith the Lord: and if thou put away thine abominations out of my sight, then shalt thou not remoue.

2 und wenn du schwörst den Schwur 'Beim Herrn!' aufrichtig, schlicht und rückhaltlos, dann segnen sich mit ihm die Heiden, sich seiner rühmend."

And thou shalt sweare, The Lord liueth in trueth, in iudgement, and in righteousnesse, and the nations shall be blessed in him, and shall glorie in him.

3 Nun also spricht der Herr zu Judas Männern und zu denen aus Jerusalem: "Brecht euch ein Neuland um und sät nicht unter Dornen!

For thus saith the Lord to the men of Iudah, and to Ierusalem,

4 Beschneidet euch dem Herrn zulieb! Weg mit der Vorhaut eures Herzens, ihr Männer Judas, ihr Bewohner von Jerusalem! - Sonst fährt mein Grimm wie Feuer aus und brennt, und niemand löscht, ob eurer Taten Schlechtigkeit!"

Breake vp your fallowe ground, and sowe not among the thornes: be circumcised to the Lord, and take away the foreskinnes of your hearts, ye men of Iudah, and inhabitants of Ierusalem, lest my wrath come foorth like fire, and burne, that none can quenche it, because of the wickednesse of your inuentions.

5 Verkündet es in Juda, und in Jerusalem ruft aus und redet, und bei Trompetenschall verkündigt es im Land und ruft aus vollem Hals und sprecht: "Zuhauf! Wir müssen in die festen Städte ziehen."

Declare in Iudah, and shewe forth in Ierusalem, and say, Blowe the trumpet in the lande: cry, and gather together, and say, Assemble your selues, and let vs goe into strong cities.

6 "Die Flagge schwinget gegen Sion hin! Fort! Bleibt nicht stehen! Denn Unheil bringe ich von Norden her, gewaltigen Niederbruch.

Set vp the standart in Zion: prepare to flee, and stay not: for I will bring a plague from the North, and a great destruction.

7 Aus seinem Dickicht steigt der Löwe, der Völkerwürger. Nun bricht er auf, läßt seine Stätte hinter sich. Dein Land macht er zur Wüstenei und deine Städte wüst und menschenleer.

The lyon is come vp from his denne, and the destroyer of the Gentiles is departed, and gone forth of his place to lay thy land waste, and thy cities shalbe destroyed without an inhabitant.

8 Legt deshalb Trauerkleider an! So klaget! Heult: 'Daß sich des Herren Zornesglut von uns nicht wendet!' -

Wherefore girde you with sackecloth: lament, and howle, for the fierce wrath of the Lord is not turned backe from vs.

9 An jenem Tage aber", ein Spruch des Herrn, "entsinkt das Herz dem König und den Fürsten. Die Priester sind verstört, entsetzt die Seher!"

And in that day, saith the Lord, the heart of the King shall perish, and the heart of the princes and the Priestes shall be astonished, and the Prophets shall wonder.

10 Ein Klagelied: "Ach Herr, o Herr! Gar gründlich hast Du dieses Volk getäuscht, mitsamt Jerusalem. Du sprachst: 'Der Friede wird euch sein!' Nun geht das Schwert an ihre Kehle."

Then saide I, Ah, Lord God, surely thou hast deceiued this people and Ierusalem, saying, Ye shall haue peace, and the sworde perceth vnto the heart.

11 "Zu jener Zeit wird für dies Volk und für Jerusalem, zur Tochter meines Volkes hin bestellt ein Sturmwind, der die Wüstenhöhen sengt, zum Worfeln nicht geeignet noch zum Säubern.

At that time shall it bee saide to this people and to Ierusalem, A dry winde in the hie places of the wildernes commeth towarde ye daughter of my people, but neither to fanne nor to clense.

12 Ein Wind, zu scharf dafür, erscheint auf mein Geheiß. Ich spreche jetzt das Urteil aber sie.

A mightie winde shall come vnto me from those places, and nowe will I also giue sentence vpon them.

13 Wie Meergewölk zieht es heran. Gleichwie ein Sturmgebrause sind seine Wagen, und seine Rosse schneller als der Aar: 'Ach wehe uns! Wir sind verloren.'"

Beholde, he shall come vp as the cloudes, and his charets shalbe as a tempest: his horses are lighter then eagles. Woe vnto vs, for wee are destroyed.

14 So wasche rein dein Herz von Missetat, Jerusalem, daß Heil dir werde! Wie lange haust in deiner Brust dein heillos Gieren?

O Ierusalem, wash thine heart from wickednes, that thou maiest be saued: how long shall thy wicked thoughtes remaine within thee?

15 Aus Dan, horch, eine Meldung! Ein Unheilsbote vom Gebirge Ephraim!

For a voyce declareth from Dan, and publisheth affliction from mount Ephraim.

16 "Heidnische Völker bietet auf und ruft sie gen Jerusalem zusammen! Aus fernem Lande kommen Krieger; ihr Kriegsgeschrei gilt Judas Städten.

Make ye mention of the heathen, and publish in Ierusalem, Beholde, the skoutes come from a farre countrey, and crie out against the cities of Iudah.

17 Wie Feldhüter umlagern sie es ganz. Es war ja widerspenstig gegen mich." Ein Spruch des Herrn.

They haue compassed her about as the watchmen of the fielde, because it hath prouoked me to wrath, saith the Lord.

18 Dein Wandel, deine Taten, die tragen dir dies ein. Das kommt von deiner Schlechtigkeit, daß es so bitter hart ans Herz dir greift.

Thy wayes and thine inuentions haue procured thee these things, such is thy wickednesse: therefore it shall be bitter, therefore it shall perce vnto thine heart.

19 Mein Inneres, mein Inneres! Ich muß mich krümmen. Ach, meines Herzens Kammern! Mein Herz! Es pocht; ich kann's nicht stillen. - Ich höre schon des Lärmhorns Schall - des Krieges Lärmgetümmel.

My bely, my bely, I am pained, euen at the very heart: mine heart is troubled within me: I cannot be still: for my soule hath heard the sounde of the trumpet, and the alarme of the battell.

20 Verheerung auf Verheerung wird gemeldet. Verloren ist das ganze Land, im Nu vernichtet mein Gezelt, im Augenblicke meine Hütte!

Destruction vpon destruction is cryed, for the whole lande is wasted: suddenly are my tents destroyed, and my curtaines in a moment.

21 Wie lange muß ich Kriegspaniere schauen, das Lärmhorn hören?

Howe long shall I see the standert, and heare the sounde of the trumpet?

22 "Ach, töricht ist mein Volk; sie wollen mich nicht kennen. Einfältige Kinder sind's, so unvernünftig, nur klug, um Schlechtes zu verüben. Dagegen schlicht zu handeln, das verstehn sie nicht."

For my people is foolish, they haue not knowen me: they are foolish children, and haue none vnderstanding: they are wise to doe euill, but to doe well they haue no knowledge.

23 Ich schaue auf die Erde hin; nur Irr- und Wirrsal. Empor zum Himmel blicke ich: Fort Ist sein Licht.

I haue looked vpon the earth, and loe, it was without forme and voide: and to the heauens, and they had no light.

24 Ich seh die Berge an: Sie zittern, und alle Hügel beben.

I behelde the mountaines: and loe, they trembled and all the hilles shooke.

25 Ich schaue hin: Da gibt es keine Menschen mehr, und alle Himmelsvögel sind davon.

I behelde, and loe, there was no man, and all the birdes of the heauen were departed.

26 Ich schaue hin: das Fruchtgefilde eine Wüste; verheert all seine Städte vor dem Herrn, vor seiner Zornesglut.

I behelde, and loe, the fruitfull place was a wildernesse, and all the cities thereof were broken downe at the presence of the Lord, and by his fierce wrath.

27 Denn also spricht der Herr: "Das ganze Land soll eine Wüste werden; nur ganz vernichten will ich's nicht.

For thus hath the Lord saide, The whole lande shall be desolate: yet will I not make a full ende.

28 Darüber trauere das Land! Der Himmel droben schwärze sich! Drum rede ich von meinem Plan und lasse ihn mich nicht gereuen; ich gehe nimmer davon ab." -

Therefore shall the earth mourne, and the heauens aboue shall be darkened, because I haue pronounced it: I haue thought it, and will not repent, neither will I turne backe from it.

29 Doch vor dem Rufe "Reiter! Schützen!" sind alle Städte auf der Flucht. Die schlüpfen in Gebüsche, und die erklettern Felsen; die Städte alle sind verlassen, und niemand siedelt mehr darin. -

The whole citie shall flee, for the noyse of the horsemen and bowemen: they shall goe into thickets, and clime vp vpon the rockes: euery citie shall be forsaken, and not a man dwell therein.

30 Du Elende, was willst du tun? Ob du dich auch in Scharlach kleidest, ob du dich schmückst mit goldnem Schmuck, ob du mit Bleiglanz deine Augen schminkst, du machst umsonst dich schön. Die Buhlen haben dich jetzt satt; nach deinem Leben trachten sie. -

And when thou shalt be destroyed, what wilt thou doe? Though thou clothest thy selfe with skarlet, though thou deckest thee with ornaments of golde, though thou paintest thy face with colours, yet shalt thou trimme thy selfe in vaine: for thy louers will abhorre thee and seeke thy life.

31 Ich höre Schreie wie von einer Kreißenden, Angstrufe wie von einer Erstgebärenden. Horch, wie die Sionstochter stöhnt und ihre Hände breitet: "O wehe mir! Dem Henkerstod bin ich verfallen."

For I haue heard a noyse as of a woman trauailing, or as one labouring of her first child, euen the voyce of the daughter Zion that sigheth and stretcheth out her handes: woe is me nowe: for my soule fainteth because of the murtherers.
