Jeremia 14
1 Was einst als Wort des Herrn an Jeremias der Dürre wegen erfolgte:
This is Yahweh’s word that came to Jeremiah concerning the drought:
2 "In Juda Trauer! Und öde seine Pforten! Am Boden trauernd liegen sie. Jerusalems Geschrei schallt in die Lüfte.
“Judah mourns, and its gates languish. They sit in black on the ground. The cry of Jerusalem goes up.
3 Die Großen senden ihre Knechte nach dem Wasser; sie kommen an die Brunnen, finden keins. Sie kehren leer zurück, bestürzt, enttäuscht, das Haupt verhüllt.
Their nobles send their little ones to the waters. They come to the cisterns, and find no water. They return with their vessels empty. They are disappointed and confounded, and cover their heads.
4 Dieweil zu Staub das Ackerland geworden - im Lande fällt kein Regen mehr -, drum lassen ihren Mut die Ackersleute mit verhülltem Haupte sinken.
Because of the ground which is cracked, because no rain has been in the land, the plowmen are disappointed. They cover their heads.
5 Sogar das Reh gebiert auf freiem Feld und geht davon; denn nirgends gibt's mehr Gras.
Yes, the doe in the field also calves and forsakes her young, because there is no grass.
6 Wildesel stehen auf den Höhen, nach Atem schnappend gleich den Drachen. Sie sehen sich die Augen aus; denn nirgends grünes Futter."
The wild donkeys stand on the bare heights. They pant for air like jackals. Their eyes fail, because there is no vegetation.
7 "Klagen uns an auch unsere Missetaten, so handle doch entsprechend Deiner Ehre, Herr! Zahlreich sind freilich unsere Übertretungen, durch die wir uns an Dir versündigt.
Though our iniquities testify against us, work for your name’s sake, Yahweh; for our rebellions are many. We have sinned against you.
8 Du Hoffnung Israels, sein Heiland in der Zeit der Not! Warum tust Du so fremd im Land, gleich einem Wandersmann, der nur zur Nachtzeit bleibt?
You hope of Israel, its Savior in the time of trouble, why should you be as a foreigner in the land, and as a wayfaring man who turns aside to stay for a night?
9 Warum gleichst Du jetzt einem Manne, der erschrocken, dem Schwächling, der nicht helfen kann? Und doch bist Du in unsrer Mitte, Herr. Wir sind Dein Eigentum. Laß uns nicht untergehen!"
Why should you be like a scared man, as a mighty man who can’t save? Yet you, Yahweh, are in the middle of us, and we are called by your name. Don’t leave us.
10 Von diesem Volke sprach der Herr: "So hin und her, das lieben sie und schonen ihre Füße nicht. An ihnen kann der Herr sich aber nicht erfreuen, und so gedenkt er ihrer Schuld und ahndet ihre Sünden."
Yahweh says to this people: “Even so they have loved to wander. They have not restrained their feet. Therefore Yahweh does not accept them. Now he will remember their iniquity, and punish them for their sins.”
11 Dann sprach der Herr zu mir: "Verrichte kein Gebet für dieses Volk um Heil! Selbst wenn sie fasten, hör ich nimmer auf ihr Flehn, und wenn sie Brand- und Speiseopfer bringen, nehme ich sie nicht zu Gnaden an.
Yahweh said to me, “Don’t pray for this people for their good.
12 Durch Schwert und Hunger und durch Pest, so räume ich gewaltig unter ihnen auf."
When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and meal offering, I will not accept them; but I will consume them by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence.”
13 Da sprach ich: "Herr, ach Herr! Propheten sagen ja zu ihnen: 'Von Schwertern werdet ihr nichts sehen, und Hungersnot kommt nicht zu euch. Nein, ich verleihe sichern Frieden euch an dieser Stätte hier.'"
Then I said, “Ah, Lord Yahweh! Behold, the prophets tell them, ‘You will not see the sword, neither will you have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place.’”
14 Da sprach der Herr zu mir: "Nur Lügen prophezein in meinem Namen die Propheten. Ich habe sie ja nicht gesandt und nicht geheißen und nie zu ihnen je gesprochen. Erlogene Gesichte, eitle Wahrsagung und selbsterdachten Trug, das prophezein sie euch."
Then Yahweh said to me, “The prophets prophesy lies in my name. I didn’t send them. I didn’t command them. I didn’t speak to them. They prophesy to you a lying vision, divination, and a thing of nothing, and the deceit of their own heart.
15 Deshalb spricht so der Herr: "Die Seher, die in meinem Namen prophezeien und die künden: 'Kein Schwert kommt in dies Land, kein Hunger', - obwohl ich sie doch nicht gesandt, - durch Schwert und Hunger enden diese Seher.
Therefore Yahweh says concerning the prophets who prophesy in my name, but I didn’t send them, yet they say, ‘Sword and famine will not be in this land.’ Those prophets will be consumed by sword and famine.
16 Die Leute aber, denen sie weissagen, liegen in den Gassen von Jerusalem am Boden, vom Hunger und vom Schwerte hingestreckt, und niemand ist, der sie bestatten könnte, sie selbst mit ihren Weibern, Söhnen, Töchtern. Ich gieße ihre Bosheit über sie.
The people to whom they prophesy will be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword. They will have no one to bury them—them, their wives, their sons, or their daughters, for I will pour their wickedness on them.
17 Das sag zu ihnen: 'Von Tränen rinnen meine Augen Tag und Nacht und werden nimmer trocken. Mit tiefen Wunden wird die Jungfrau, meines Volkes Tochter, ganz unheilbar geschlagen.
“You shall say this word to them: “‘Let my eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease; for the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breach, with a very grievous wound.
18 Wenn ich hinaus ins Freie gehe, da liegen Schwertdurchbohrte. Betrete ich die Stadt, da toben Hungersqualen. Propheten samt den Priestern wälzen sich besinnungslos am Boden.'"
If I go out into the field, then behold, the slain with the sword! If I enter into the city, then behold, those who are sick with famine! For both the prophet and the priest go about in the land, and have no knowledge.’”
19 Hast Du denn Juda ganz verworfen? Hast Du an Sion Ekel? Warum schlägst Du uns so, da uns die Mittel, uns zu heilen, fehlen? Genesung hoffen, ohne daß es besser wird! Statt Heilung Rückfall!
Have you utterly rejected Judah? Has your soul loathed Zion? Why have you struck us, and there is no healing for us? We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of healing, and behold, dismay!
20 Wir kennen unsern Frevel, Herr, und unserer Väter Schuld, daß wir an Dir gesündigt.
We acknowledge, Yahweh, our wickedness, and the iniquity of our fathers; for we have sinned against you.
21 Verschmäh doch nicht die Wohnstatt Deines Namens, entehre nicht den Thronsitz Deiner Herrlichkeit! An Deinen Bund mit uns erinnere Dich und kündige ihn nimmer auf!
Do not abhor us, for your name’s sake. Do not disgrace the throne of your glory. Remember, and don’t break your covenant with us.
22 Gibt's bei den Heidennichtsen Regenspender, und spendet denn der Himmel selber Regenschauer? Bist Du es nicht, Herr, unser Gott? So wollen wir auf Dich vertrauen; denn Du hast alles das gemacht.
Are there any among the vanities of the nations that can cause rain? Or can the sky give showers? Aren’t you he, Yahweh our God? Therefore we will wait for you; for you have made all these things.
