Jesaja 40
1 "Nun tröstet, tröstet mir mein Volk!" so läßt sich euer Gott vernehmen.
Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.
2 Zu Herzen sprecht Jerusalem und ruft ihm zu, sein Sklavendienst sei aus und seine Schuld gebüßt! - Denn aus der Hand des Herrn hat es für seine Sünden insgesamt das Doppelte empfangen."
Speak to the heart of Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her time of suffering is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned; for she hath received of Jehovah's hand double for all her sins.
3 Horch! Einer ruft: "Bahnt in der Wüste einen Weg des Herrn! Für unsern Gott bereitet in der Steppe grade Straßen!
The voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare ye the way of Jehovah, make straight in the desert a highway for our God!
4 Erheben soll sich jedes Tal, und jeder Berg und Hügel soll sich senken! Das Krumme werd gerade und eben alles Höckerige!
Every valley shall be raised up, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places a plain.
5 Denn sichtbar werden will des Herren Lichter Glanz, und sehen soll ihn alle Welt zusammen! Der Mund des Herrn hat es gesprochen."
And the glory of Jehovah shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see [it] together: for the mouth of Jehovah hath spoken.
6 Horch! Einer spricht: "Verkünde!" "Was denn", fragt ein andrer, "soll ich künden?" "Die ganze Welt ist Gras, all ihre Pracht ist wie die Blume, des Feldes Blume.
A voice saith, Cry. And he saith, What shall I cry? — All flesh is grass, and all the comeliness thereof as the flower of the field.
7 Das Gras verdorrt, die Blume welkt, wenn sie der Hauch des Herren trifft. Wahrhaftig, Gras nur sind die Leute.
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth, for the breath of Jehovah bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.
8 Das Gras verdorrt: die Blume welkt. Doch unseres Gottes Wort besteht in Ewigkeit."
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth; but the word of our God abideth for ever.
9 Ersteige einen hohen Berg als Freudenbotin! Erhebe mächtig deine Stimme als Freudenbotin, du Jerusalem! Furchtlos erhebe sie und rufe Judas Städten zu: "Seht! Da ist euer Gott.
O Zion, that bringest glad tidings, get thee up into a high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest glad tidings, lift up thy voice with strength: lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God!
10 Der Herr, der Herr kommt als der Sieger; sein Arm allein hat ihm den Sieg erkämpft. Sein Sold ist auch bei ihm; sein Kampfpreis geht vor ihm einher.
Behold, the Lord Jehovah will come with might, and his arm shall rule for him; behold, his reward is with him, and his recompence before him.
11 Er weidet seine Herde wie ein Hirt; in seinen Arm nimmt er die Lämmer. An seinem Busen trägt er sie und leitet sanft die Mutterschafe."
He will feed his flock like a shepherd: he will gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom; he will gently lead those that give suck.
12 Wer mißt mit seiner Faust die Wasser und wer den Himmel mit der Spanne? Wer faßt denn in ein Drittelmaß der Erde Staub und wägt die Berge mit der Waage, in ihren Schalen ihre Hügel?
Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out the heavens with [his] span, and grasped the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in a balance, and the hills in scales?
13 Wer mißt den Geist des Herrn? Und wer ist sein Berater, der ihn unterwiesen
Who hath directed the Spirit of Jehovah, and, [as] his counsellor, hath taught him?
14 Wen zieht er je zu Rat, daß er ihn weise machte und ihn den Pfad der Ordnung lehrte und ihn in Einsicht weiterbrächte und ihm die Weisheitsbahn entdeckte?
With whom took he counsel, and [who] gave him intelligence, and instructed him in the path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and shewed him the way of understanding?
15 Die Heidenvölker sind ein Tropfen an dem Eimer und gelten, was ein Flöckchen an der Waage gilt. Die Inseln fallen ins Gewicht nur wie ein Stäubchen.
Behold, the nations are esteemed as a drop of the bucket, and as the fine dust on the scales; behold, he taketh up the isles as an atom.
16 Kein Libanon reicht hin zum Feuer, zum Opfer nicht sein Wild.
And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt-offering.
17 Die Heidenvölker alle sind wie nichts vor ihm, sind weniger als nichts in seinen Augen.
All the nations are as nothing before him; they are esteemed by him less than a cipher, and vanity.
18 Wem wollt ihr also Gott vergleichen und unter welchem Bild ihn darstellen?
To whom then will ye liken God? and what likeness will ye compare unto him?
19 Ein Götzenbild, das gießt der Künstler; der Goldschmied überzieht's mit Gold und schließt's mit Silberkettchen an.
The workman casteth a graven image, and the goldsmith spreadeth it over with gold, and casteth silver chains [for it].
20 Und wer zu arm für solche Stiftung, wählt ein Holz aus, das nicht fault. Dann sucht er einen guten Künstler, ein Götzenbild ihm anzufertigen, das nicht aus den Fugen geht.
He that is impoverished, so that he hath no offering, chooseth a tree that doth not rot; he seeketh unto him a skilled workman to prepare a graven image that shall not be moved.
21 Wißt ihr es nicht Wollt ihr's nicht hören? Ward's nicht schon längst euch kundgetan? Kennt ihr denn nicht der Erde Gründungsart?
— Do ye not know? Have ye not heard? Hath it not been told you from the beginning? Have ye not understood the foundation of the earth?
22 Er, der da thronet überm Erdenrund; seine Bewohner sind wie Heuschrecken. Er, der wie einen Flor den Himmel ausgebreitet und wie ein Wohngezelt ihn ausgespannt,
[It is] he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a gauze curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in;
23 er, der die Fürsten in ein Nichts verwandelt, der Erde Mächtige in leere Luft.
that bringeth the princes to nothing, that maketh the judges of the earth as vanity.
24 Kaum sind sie eingepflanzt, kaum ausgesät, kaum wurzelt ein ihr Stamm im Boden, da bläst er sie schon an, und sie verdorren, und fort trägt sie der Sturm wie Spreu.
Scarcely are they planted, scarcely are they sown, scarcely hath their stock taken root in the earth, but he also bloweth upon them and they wither, and the whirlwind taketh them away as stubble.
25 "Wem also wollt ihr mich vergleichen?" So fragt der Heilige.
To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.
26 Zur Höhe hebet eure Augen! Und haltet Umschau! Wer ist ihr Schöpfer? Wer führt ihr Heer gezählt hervor und ruft sie all mit Namen auf? Und vor dem Starken und dem Mächtigen bleibt nicht eines aus.
Lift up your eyes on high, and see! Who hath created these things, bringing out their host by number? He calleth them all by name; through the greatness of his might and strength of power, not one faileth.
27 Weswegen sagst du, Jakob, und sprichst du, Israel: "Mein Schicksal ist dem Herrn verborgen, und meinem Gott entgeht mein Recht"?
Why sayest thou, Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from Jehovah, and my right is passed away from my God?
28 Weißt du denn nicht? Hast du's nicht gehört? Ein ewiger Gott, das ist der Herr, und wandert er bis an der Erde Säume, wird er nicht müde und nicht matt, und sein Verstand ist unbegrenzt.
Dost thou not know, hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, Jehovah, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not nor tireth? There is no searching of his understanding.
29 Den Müden gibt er Stärke und den Erschöpften neue Kraft.
He giveth power to the faint; and to him that hath no might he increaseth strength.
30 Mag müd und matt die Jugend werden und mögen Rüstige zusammenbrechen,
Even the youths shall faint and shall tire, and the young men shall stumble and fall;
31 doch die des Herren harren, gewinnen neue Kraft; sie zeigen Schwingen gleich den Adlern. Sie laufen und ermüden nicht und gehn und werden nimmer matt.
but they that wait upon Jehovah shall renew [their] strength: they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not tire; they shall walk, and not faint.
