Hosea 8
1 Schrei laut, wie mit Trompetenton, dem Adler gleich, über dem Haus des Herrn! "Weil meinen Bund sie übertreten und über meine Lehre sich hinweggesetzt,
Set the cornet to thy mouth. [Let the enemy come] like the eagle against the house of the Lord: because they have transgressed my covenant, and against my law have they trespassed.
2 so sollen sie zu mir noch schreien: 'Wir kennen Dich, Gott Israels.'"
To me will they then cry, My God, we, Israel, know thee.
3 Vom Guten sagte Israel sich los; der Feind wird es verfolgen!
[But] Israel did reject the good; so let the enemy pursue him.
4 "Sie haben Könige berufen, aber ohne mich; sich Fürsten eingesetzt; ich wußte nichts davon. Sie bildeten aus ihrem Silber, ihrem Gold sich Götzenbilder, daß sie vernichtet werden."
They set up kings, but not my advice: they chose princes and I knew it not: of their silver and their gold have they made themselves idols so that they will be cut off.
5 Verwerflich ist dein Kalb, Samaria. "Mein Zorn ist gegen sie entbrannt. Wie lange können sie nicht Lauterkeit ertragen?"
Thy calf, O Samaria, hath caused thy rejection; my anger is kindled against them: how long will it be that they cannot cleanse themselves?
6 Denn welcher Stier wär Gott? Ein Künstler hat das Bild gemacht; ein Gott ist's nicht. Es kann in Stücke gehn, das Kalb Samarias.
For whom Israel did also that [idol] spring; an artisan made it, and no God is it: so then shall it become broken in splinters— that calf of Samaria.
7 "Sie säen Wind; deswegen ernten sie auch Sturm." Nicht sproßt ihm eine Saat. Was wächst, das gibt kein Mehl und würde es gedeihen, verzehrten es die Fremden.
For the wind do they sow, and the whirlwind shall they reap: [their seed] bringeth no standing corn; the plant yieldeth no meal; but should it yield it, strangers would swallow it up.
8 "Verschlungen wird so Israel. Sie gelten bei den Heiden jetzt als unnütz Ding."
Swallowed up is Israel: now are they among the nations as a vessel without any value.
9 Ja, hin nach Assur laufen sie, zum Wildesel, der nur bedacht auf seinen Nutzen; dort spendet Ephraim der Liebe Gaben.
For they are needs gone up to Assyria, they who like a wild ass should dwell alone: Ephraim spendeth lovers' gifts.
10 "Doch teilen sie auch solche bei den Heidenvölkern aus, ich lasse dennoch sie zusammenschrumpfen. Und schon beginnen sie, sich zu vermindern, beim Druck des Fürstenkönigs."
But even though they should spend gifts among the nations, now will I gather them: and they shall be humbled a little through the burden of the king of princes.
11 Zwar schafft sich Ephraim viele Altäre an zum Sündigen; doch werden die Altäre ihm zur Sünde werden.
Because Ephraim hath multiplied altars to sin, the altars have been unto him the means of sinning.
12 "Und habe ich ihm vielmals meine Lehre vorgeschrieben, sie achten sie wie fremde Lehre.
I ever wrote down for him the great things of my law; but as a strange thing are they accounted.
13 Die Opfer für mich ausgewählter Böcke mögen für sich selbst sie schlachten und auch das Fleisch verzehren!" Der Herr hat keine Freude dran; vielmehr gedenkt er ihrer Schuld, und ihre Sünden sucht er heim. Sie müssen wieder nach Ägypten ziehen.
My sacrificial offerings they slay as common flesh that they may eat it; the Lord accepteth them not in favor: now will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sins; they shall indeed return to Egypt.
14 Nichts wissen will von seinem Schöpfer Israel; Paläste baut es sich. - Auch Juda legte viele feste Städte an. "Ich aber sandte Feuer wider seine Städte, und dies verzehrte seine Burgen."
For Israel forgot his Maker, and built palaces; and Judah multiplied fortified cities; but I will send a fire among his cities, and it shall devour their fine edifices.
