Hosea 4

1 Vernehmt das Wort des Herrn, ihr Söhne Israels: Zu rechten hat der Herr mit den Bewohnern dieses Landes; denn keine Treue, keine Frömmigkeit, keine Erkenntnis Gottes gibt es mehr im Land.

Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.

2 Das Schwören und Betrügen, Morden, Stehlen, Ehebrechen nimmt überhand; Bluttat reihet sich an Bluttat.

There is nought but swearing and breaking faith, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery; they break out, and blood toucheth blood.

3 Darüber steht das Land in Trauer, und was darinnen wohnt, verschwindet. Des Feldes Tiere und des Himmels Vögel, selbst des Meeres Fische schwinden hin.

Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field and the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.

4 "'Man rechte nicht! Man tadle nicht!' Dein Volk, du Priester, dein Volk ist solchen gleich, die mich angreifen.

Yet let no man strive, neither let any man reprove; for thy people are as they that strive with the priest.

5 Du gabst am Tage Anstoß deinem Volk und der Prophet zur Nachtzeit. Und ich vertilgte deine Ernte.

And thou shalt stumble in the day, and the prophet also shall stumble with thee in the night; and I will destroy thy mother.

6 Hinschwand mein Volk, weil ihm Erkenntnis mangelte. Du hast ja die Erkenntnis weggeworfen, und so verwerfe ich auch dich, daß du mir nimmer Priester seist. Du wolltest nichts von deines Gottes Lehre wissen, so weiß auch ich nichts mehr von deinen Söhnen.

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I also will forget thy children.

7 Je angesehener sie wurden, um so mehr verfehlten sie sich gegen mich; drum wandle ich in Schmach ihr Ansehen.

As they were multiplied, so they sinned against me: I will change their glory into shame.

8 Sie nähren sich von meines Volkes Sünde; nach seinen Missetaten hungern sie.

They feed on the sin of my people, and set their heart on their iniquity.

9 Drum wie dem Volke so dem Priester! Ich strafe seinen Wandel und vergelte ihm nach seinen Werken."

And it shall be, like people, like priest: and I will punish them for their ways, and will reward them their doings.

10 Sie essen, werden aber nimmer satt; sie buhlen, aber mehren sich nicht mehr, weil sie den Herrn verlassen, um sich der Unzucht zu ergeben.

And they shall eat, and not have enough; they shall commit whoredom, and shall not increase: because they have left off to take heed to the LORD.

11 "Der Wein und Most nimmt den Verstand gefangen.

Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the understanding.

12 Mein Volk befragt nur sein Stück Holz; sein Stab gibt ihm Bescheid." Ein buhlerischer Geist betört es ja, und sie entfernen buhlend sich von ihrem Gott.

My people ask counsel at their stock, and their staff declareth unto them: for the spirit of whoredom hath caused them to err, and they have gone a whoring from under their God.

13 "Auf Bergesgipfeln opfern sie; auf Hügeln bringen sie Brandopfer dar und unter Eichen, Pappeln, Terebinthen, weil so lieblich deren Schatten. Drum huren eure Töchter, und eure Bräute brechen hier die Treue.

They sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burn incense upon the hills, under oaks and poplars and terebinths, because the shadow thereof is good: therefore your daughters commit whoredom, and your brides commit adultery.

14 Soll ich an euren Töchtern nicht die Buhlerei bestrafen, an euren Bräuten nicht den Treuebruch? Sie selber haben sich den Buhlerinnen beigesellt und opfern mit geweihten Dirnen, und das gedankenlose Volk wird so geschändet."

I will not punish your daughters when they commit whoredom, nor your brides when they commit adultery; for they themselves go apart with whores, and they sacrifice with the harlots: and the people that doth not understand shall be overthrown.

15 Magst du auch buhlen, Israel, so möge Juda sich doch nicht versündigen! "Kommt nicht nach Gilgal! Wallfahrt nicht zum Götzenhaus! nicht 'Beim Herrn'!"

Though thou, Israel, play the harlot, yet let not Judah offend; and come not ye unto Gilgal, neither go ye up to Beth-aven, nor swear, As the LORD liveth.

16 Beträgt sich Israel wie eine widerspenstige Kuh, kann dann der Herr es weiden lassen auf weiter Flur gleich einem Lamm?

For Israel hath behaved himself stubbornly, like a stubborn heifer: now will the LORD feed them as a lamb in a large place.

17 Man bringt jetzt Ephraim ins Joch, zur Arbeit angebunden.

Ephraim is joined to idols; let him alone.

18 Ihr Weingelage schwindet hin, bei dem sie so gebuhlt und ihrer Berge Schmach geliebt.

Their drink is become sour: they commit whoredom continually; her rulers dearly love shame.

19 Der Atem macht ihm eng in seinen Flanken. Dann schämen sie sich ihrer Opfer.

The wind hath wrapped her up in its wings; and they shall be ashamed because of their sacrifices.
