1 Eben der Melchisedech war König von Salem und Priester des allerhöchsten Gottes. Er ging dem Abraham entgegen, als dieser von der Niederwerfung der Könige zurückkam, und gab ihm den Segen.
Now this Melchisedec was king of Salem, a priest of the most high God: and he met Abraham, when returning from the slaughter of the kings; and blessed him.
2 Dafür gab Abraham ihm den Zehnten von allem. Sein Name wird zunächst erklärt als "König der Gerechtigkeit", dann aber auch als "Salems König", das heißt "Friedenskönig".
And to him Abraham imparted tithes of all that he had with him. Moreover his name is interpreted king of righteousness; and again he is called King of Salem, that is King of Peace.
3 Er steht da ohne Vater, ohne Mutter, ohne Stammbaum, ohne Anfang seiner Tage, ohne Lebensende; ein treues Urbild des Gottessohnes, bleibt er Priester bis in Ewigkeit.
Of whom neither his father nor his mother are written in the genealogies; nor the commencement of his days, nor the end of his life; but, after the likeness of the Son of God, his priesthood remaineth for ever.
4 Bedenket nun, wie hoch der stehen muß, dem sogar Abraham, der Patriarch, den Zehnten von den besten Beutestücken gab.
And consider ye, how great he was; to whom the patriarch Abraham gave tithes and first-fruits.
5 Die, die aus dem Stamme Levi das Priesteramt erhalten haben, besitzen zwar nach dem Gesetze das Recht, vom Volke, also von ihren Brüdern, einen Zehnten zu erheben, obwohl auch sie von Abraham abstammen.
For they of the sons of Levi who received the priesthood, had a statute of the law, that they should take tithes from the people; they from their brethren, because they also are of the seed of Abraham.
6 Doch dieser, der nicht aus ihnen stammt, hat doch dem Abraham den Zehnten abgenommen und dann den Träger der Verheißungen gesegnet.
But this man, who is not enrolled in their genealogies, took tithes from Abraham; and blessed him who had received the promise.
7 Es unterliegt gar keinem Zweifel: Das Niedrige wird vom Höheren gesegnet.
But it is beyond controversy, that the inferior is blessed by his superior.
8 Ferner nehmen hier sterbliche Menschen den Zehnten entgegen, dort aber einer, von dem bezeugt ist, daß er lebt.
And here, men who die, receive the tithes; but there he of whom the scripture testifieth that he liveth.
9 Und weiter ward in Abraham auch sozusagen Levi, der selber doch den Zehnten fordert, mit dem Zehnten belegt;
And through Abraham, as one may say, even Levi who receiveth tithes, was himself tithed.
10 er war ja noch in der Lende seines Vaters, als ihm Melchisedech begegnete.
For he was yet in the loins of his father, when he met Melchisedec.
11 Wenn nun das levitische Priestertum, auf das das Volk gesetzlich festgelegt war, schon die Vollendung gebracht hätte, wäre es dann notwendig gewesen, noch einen andern nach der Ordnung des Melchisedech als Priester aufzustellen und davon zu reden, daß er es nicht nach der Ordnung Aarons sei?
If, therefore, perfection had been by means of the priesthood of the Levites, in which the law was enjoined on the people; why was another priest required, who should stand up after the likeness of Melchisedec? For it should have said, He shall be after the likeness of Aaron.
12 Und weiter: wenn das Priestertum wechselt, dann wechselt notwendig auch die Priesterordnung.
But as there is a change in the priesthood, so also is there a change in the law.
13 Denn der, auf den sich diese Aussage bezieht, gehört ja einem anderen Stamme an, aus dem noch keiner dem Altare gedient hat.
For he of whom these things were spoken, was born of another tribe, of which no one ever ministered at the altar.
14 Denn es ist allgemein bekannt, daß unser Herr aus Juda hervorgegangen ist, aus einem Stamme, von dem Moses nichts gesagt hatte, was sich auf Priester beziehen könnte.
For it is manifest that our Lord arose from Judah, from a tribe of which Moses said nothing concerning a priesthood.
15 Und vollends klar wird noch die Sache, wenn nach dem Ebenbild des Melchisedech ein anderer Priester eingesetzt wird,
And moreover this is further manifest, from his saying that another priest will stand up, after the likeness of Melchisedec,
16 der es nicht nach dem Gesetz eines fleischlichen Gebotes ward, vielmehr in der Kraft eines unvergänglichen Lebens.
who was not according to the law of corporeal injunctions, but according to the energy of an indissoluble life.
For he testified of him: Thou art a priest for ever, after the likeness of Melchisedec. (aiōn g165)
18 Ein bisher geltendes Gesetz wird aufgehoben dann, wenn es kraft- und nutzlos wird.
And the change which was made in the first statute, was on account of its impotency, and because their was no utility in it.
19 Das Gesetz hatte die Vollendung nicht gebracht; es war nur die Einleitung zu einer besseren Hoffnung, durch die wir uns Gott nahen.
For the law perfected nothing; but in the place of it there came in a hope, which is better than it, and by which we draw near to God.
20 Und in demselben Maße, wie er nicht ohne Eidschwur Priester ward - indessen jene ohne Eidschwur Priester wurden,
And he confirmed it to us by an oath.
21 ward er es durch einen Eidschwur dessen, der zu ihm sprach: "Geschworen hat der Herr; es wird ihn nicht gereuen, du bist Priester ewiglich" -, (aiōn g165)
For they became priests without an oath; but this man by an oath. As he said to him by David: The Lord hath sworn, and will not lie, Thou art a priest for ever, after the likeness of Melchisedec. (aiōn g165)
22 in eben diesem Maße wurde Jesus Bürge eines höheren Bundes.
By all this, is that a better covenant of which Jesus is the sponsor.
23 Diese wurden in größerer Anzahl Priester, weil sie durch den Tod verhindert wurden, im Amte zu bleiben;
And they as priests were numerous, because they were mortal, and were not permitted to continue:
but this man, because he standeth up for ever, his priesthood doth not pass away: (aiōn g165)
25 So kann er auch für alle Zeiten jene retten, die sich durch ihn Gott nahen, weil er immer lebt, um für sie einzutreten.
and he is able to vivify for ever, them who come to God by him; for he always liveth, and sendeth up prayers for them.
26 So mußte unser Hoherpriester ja auch sein: heilig, rein, unbefleckt, von den Sündern losgelöst und über alle Himmel hoch erhoben,
For, a priest like to him, was also suitable for us; one pure, and without evil and without stain; one separated from sins, and exalted higher than heaven;
27 der nicht wie die Hohenpriester täglich nötig hat, zuerst für seine eigenen Sünden Opfer darzubringen und alsdann für die des Volkes; denn dies hat er ein für allemal getan, indem er sich selber zum Opfer dargebracht hat.
and who is not obliged, every day, like the Aaronic high priest, to first offer sacrifices for his own sins, and then for the people; for this he did once, by offering up himself.
28 Also bestellt das Gesetz zu Hohenpriestern Menschen mit Schwachheit angetan, das Wort des Eidschwurs dagegen in der Zeit nach dem Gesetze den Sohn, der für alle Zeit vollendet ward. (aiōn g165)
For the law constituted feeble men priests; but the word of the oath, which was subsequent to the law constituted the Son perfect for ever. (aiōn g165)
