Hebraeer 4
1 So lasset uns denn ernstlich sorgen, daß keiner unter euch für säumig befunden werde; denn die Verheißung, in seine Ruhe einzugehen, steht noch aus.
We must, therefore, be very careful, though there is a promise still standing that we will enter upon God’s rest, that none of you even appear to have missed it.
2 Denn auch an uns, wie an jene, erging die frohe Botschaft. Doch jenen hat das Wort der Predigt nichts genützt, weil es nicht durch den Glauben mit den Hörern zusammenwuchs.
For we have had the good news told us just as they had. But the message which they heard did them no good, since they did not share the faith of those who were attentive to it.
3 Wir werden aber eingehen in seine Ruhe, weil wir gläubig wurden, wie er denn auch gesagt hat: "Wie ich schwur in meinem Zorne: 'Sie sollen nicht in meine Ruhe eingehen.'" Und doch sind die Werke seit der Welterschaffung abgeschlossen.
Upon that rest we who have believed are now entering. As God has said – ‘In my wrath I swore – “They will never enter upon my rest;”’ Although God’s work was finished at the creation of the world;
4 Es heißt ja irgendwo vom siebten Tag also: "Gott ruhte am siebten Tage von allen seinen Werken."
for, in a passage referring to the seventh day, you will find these words – ‘God rested on the seventh day after all his work.’
5 Und hier heißt es: "Sie sollen nicht in meine Ruhe eingehen."
On the other hand, we read in that passage – ‘They will never enter upon my rest.’
6 Es bleibt also dabei, daß manche in sie eingehen, doch auch, daß die, die zuerst die frohe Botschaft empfangen haben, wegen ihres Ungehorsams nicht hineingekommen sind.
Since, then, there is still a promise that some will enter upon this rest, and since those who were first told the good news did not enter upon it, because of their disbelief,
7 So bestimmt er wieder einen Tag, ein "Heute", wenn er nach so langer Zeit durch David sagen läßt, wie eben angeführt: "Heute, wenn ihr seine Stimme höret, verhärtet eure Herzen nicht."
again God fixed a day. ‘Today,’ he said, speaking after a long interval through the mouth of David, in the passage already quoted – ‘If today you hear God’s voice harden not your hearts.’
8 Denn hätte sie Josue zur Ruhe geführt, dann hätte er nicht nachher noch von einem anderen Tage geredet.
Now if Joshua had given ‘rest’ to the people, God would not have spoken of another and later day.
9 So bleibt dem Volke Gottes eine Sabbatruhe noch in Aussicht;
There is, then, a Sabbath rest still awaiting God’s people.
10 denn wer in seine Ruhe eingegangen ist, ruht von seinen Werken wie Gott von den seinen.
For the person who enters upon God’s rest do themselves rest after their work, just as God did.
11 So soll denn unser eifrigstes Bestreben sein, in diese Ruhe einzugehen, daß keiner durch Ungehorsam zu Falle komme, wie es eben an diesem Beispiel dargetan ward.
Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter upon that rest, so that none of us fall through such disbelief as that of which we have had an example.
12 Lebendig ist ja das Wort Gottes und wirksam und noch schärfer als jedes zweischneidige Messer. Es dringt hindurch, bis es Geist und Seele, Gelenk und Mark geschieden hat; es ist ein Richter über die Gedanken und Gesinnungen des Herzens.
God’s message is a living and active power, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing its way until it penetrates soul and spirit – not the joints only but the marrow – and detecting the inmost thoughts and purposes of the mind.
13 Und kein Geschöpf bleibt vor ihm verborgen; es liegt alles bloß und offen da vor den Augen dessen, dem wir Rechenschaft geben müssen.
There is no created thing that can hide itself from the sight of God. Everything is exposed and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we have to give account.
14 Da wir nun einen so großen Hohenpriester haben, der die Himmel durchschnitten hat, Jesus, den Gottessohn, so laßt uns am Bekenntnisse festhalten.
We have, then, in Jesus, the Son of God, a great high priest who has passed into the highest heaven; let us, therefore, hold fast to the faith which we have professed.
15 Wir haben ja nicht einen solchen Hohenpriester, der nicht mit unseren Schwächen mitfühlen könnte, sondern einen, der in allem versucht ward ebenso wie wir, nur daß es nicht zur Sünde kam.
Our high priest is not one unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has in every way been tempted, exactly as we have been, but without sinning.
16 So laßt uns denn mit Zuversicht dem Throne der Gnade nahen, damit wir Barmherzigkeit erlangen und Gnade finden für die Hilfe zur richtigen Zeit.
Therefore, let us draw near boldly to the throne of love, to find pity and love for the hour of need.
