Habakuk 1
1 Das Gesicht, das Habakuk, der Prophet, geschaut:
The burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see.
2 Wie lange rufe ich um Hilfe, Herr? Doch Du hörst nicht auf mich. Und schreie ich zu Dir: "Bedrückung!" Du aber rettest nicht.
O YHWH, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear! even cry out unto thee of violence, and thou wilt not save!
3 Warum läßt Du mich Unheil sehn und siehst dem Jammer zu? Warum steht Druck und Vergewaltigung mir vor den Augen? Warum erhebt sich Kampf und Krieg?
Why dost thou shew me iniquity, and cause me to behold grievance? for spoiling and violence are before me: and there are that raise up strife and contention.
4 Dadurch hört die Belehrung auf, und nimmer kommt das Glück zum Vorschein. Und weil ein Frevler den Gerechten umgarnt, drum kommt verkehrtes Recht heraus.
Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth.
5 Schaut auf die Heidenvölker! Blicket hin! Verwundert euch und staunt! In euren Tagen wirkt er eine Tat, die ihr nicht glaubtet, würde sie euch bloß berichtet.
Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvellously: for I will work a work in your days, which ye will not believe, though it be told you.
6 "Ich bin's, der die Chaldäer sich erheben läßt, das hitzige, das ungestüme Heidenvolk, das über Erdenweiten zieht, um fremde Wohnsitze sich zu erobern."
For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwellingplaces that are not theirs.
7 So schrecklich ist's, so fürchterlich; sein Urteil und sein Unheil stammt von ihm.
They are terrible and dreadful: their judgment and their dignity shall proceed of themselves.
8 Und schneller als die Panther seine Pferde, kühner als die Steppenwölfe, und stolzen Ganges seine Rosse, seine Reiter; aus weiter Ferne kommen sie; sie fliegen wie die Adler, die zum Fraße eilen.
Their horses also are swifter than the leopards, and are more fierce than the evening wolves: and their horsemen shall spread themselves, and their horsemen shall come from far; they shall fly as the eagle that hasteth to eat.
9 Sie alle gehen auf Gewalttat aus, und Gier belebt die Blicke ihnen; wie Sand, so sammelt es Gefangene.
They shall come all for violence: their faces shall sup up as the east wind, and they shall gather the captivity as the sand.
10 Und es verhöhnt die Könige, treibt Spott mit Fürsten. Es lacht auch aller Festungen; es schüttet einfach Erde auf und nimmt sie ein.
And they shall scoff at the kings, and the princes shall be a scorn unto them: they shall deride every strong hold; for they shall heap dust, and take it.
11 Dann greift es stürmisch an und zieht hinein und handelt ruchlos. So ist denn seine Macht sein Gott.
Then shall his mind change, and he shall pass over, and offend, imputing this his power unto his eloah.
12 Bist Du nicht, Herr, von alten Zeiten her mein heiliger Gott, der niemals stirbt? Du hast ihn zum Gerichte, Herr, bestimmt, Du Fels, zum Strafen ihn gebildet.
Art thou not from everlasting, O YHWH my Elohim, mine Holy One? we shall not die. O YHWH, thou hast ordained them for judgment; and, O mighty Elohim, thou hast established them for correction.
13 Zu rein sind deine Augen, Böses anzuschauen. Nichts Arges kannst Du sehen. Wie siehst Du nunmehr Räubern schweigend zu, wenn Frevler die Unschuldigen verschlingen?
Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he?
14 Wie machst Du Menschen Meeresfischen gleich und dem Gewürm, das keinen Herrn besitzt?
And makest men as the fishes of the sea, as the creeping things, that have no ruler over them?
15 Sie alle holt es mit den Angeln ein und lockt sie in sein Garn und rafft sie in sein Netz. Darüber freut es sich und jubelt.
They take up all of them with the angle, they catch them in their net, and gather them in their drag: therefore they rejoice and are glad.
16 Deswegen opfert es auch seinem Garn und räuchert seinem Netz. Denn fette Beute schaffen diese ihm und eine wohlbestellte Tafel.
Therefore they sacrifice unto their net, and burn incense unto their drag; because by them their portion is fat, and their meat plenteous.
17 Doch sollte es deshalb sein Garn entleeren, beständig Heidenvölker schonungslos abschlachten dürfen?
Shall they therefore empty their net, and not spare continually to slay the nations?
