1 Mose 24
1 Abraham aber war alt und hochbetagt geworden, und der Herr hatte Abraham in allem gesegnet.
And Abraham [is] old, he has entered into days, and YHWH has blessed Abraham in all [things];
2 Da sprach Abraham zu seinem Knecht, seinem Hausältesten, der über all seinem Eigentume waltete: "Lege deine Hand unter meine Lende!
and Abraham says to his servant, the eldest of his house, who is ruling over all that he has, “Please put your hand under my thigh,
3 Ich lasse dich schwören beim Herrn, dem Gott des Himmels und der Erde, daß du meinem Sohn kein Weib freiest von den Töchtern der Kanaaniter, in deren Mitte ich wohne.
and I cause you to swear by YHWH, God of the heavens and God of the earth, that you do not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanite, in the midst of whom I am dwelling;
4 Nein! Du ziehst in mein Land und zu meiner Verwandtschaft und freist für Isaak, meinen Sohn, ein Weib."
but to my land and to my family you go, and have taken a wife for my son, for Isaac.”
5 Da sprach der Knecht zu ihm: "Wenn mir aber das Weib in dies Land nicht folgen will? Soll ich dann deinen Sohn in jenes Land, aus dem du gezogen, wieder zurückbringen?"
And the servant says to him, “It may be the woman is not willing to come after me to this land; do I at all cause your son to return to the land from where you came out?”
6 Da sprach Abraham zu ihm: "Hüte dich, meinen Sohn dorthin zurückzubringen!
And Abraham says to him, “Take heed to yourself lest you cause my son to return there;
7 Der Herr, des Himmels Gott, der mich aus meinem Vaterhaus und meinem Heimatland geholt und der zu mir geredet und mir feierlich geschworen: 'Ich gebe deinem Stamme dies Land', derselbe sendet seinen Engel vor dir her, daß du ein Weib dorther für meinen Sohn freiest.
YHWH, God of the heavens, who has taken me from the house of my father, and from the land of my birth, and who has spoken to me, and who has sworn to me, saying, To your seed I give this land, He sends His messenger before you, and you have taken a wife for my son from there;
8 Und sollte dir das Weib nicht folgen, dann bist du dieses Eides ledig. Doch keinesfalls darfst du meinen Sohn dorthin verbringen."
and if the woman is not willing to come after you, then you have been acquitted from this my oath: only you do not cause my son to return there.”
9 Da legte der Knecht seine Hand unter die Lende seines Herrn Abraham und schwur ihm auf dies Wort.
And the servant puts his hand under the thigh of Abraham his lord, and swears to him concerning this matter.
10 Dann nahm der Knecht zehn Kamele von seines Herrn Kamelen und schickte sich zur Abreise an, im Besitz der Vollmacht über das ganze Vermögen seines Herrn. So brach er auf und zog nach Aram Naharaim, zu der Stadt Nachors.
And the servant takes ten camels of the camels of his lord and goes, also of all the goods of his lord in his hand, and he rises, and goes to Aram-Naharaim, to the city of Nahor;
11 Da ließ er die Kamele draußen vor der Stadt am Brunnen lagern, zur Abendzeit, um die Zeit, wann die Weiber zum Wasserholen herauskommen.
and he causes the camels to kneel at the outside of the city, at the well of water, at evening, at the time of the coming out of the women who draw water.
12 Er sprach: "Herr, du Gott Abrahams, meines Herrn! Laß es mir heute glücken und zeige dich gnädig gegen Abraham, meinen Herrn!
And he says, “YHWH, God of my lord Abraham, please cause to meet before me this day—(and do kindness with my lord Abraham;
13 Hier stehe ich am Wasserquell; der Stadtleute Töchter kommen jetzt zum Wasserschöpfen.
behold, I am standing by the fountain of water, and daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water;
14 Das Mädchen nun sei es, dem ich sage: 'Neige deinen Krug, auf daß ich trinke!' und das antwortet: 'Trink! Und auch deine Kamele will ich tränken.' Sie hast du für deinen Knecht Isaak bestimmt, und an ihr erkenne ich, daß du Huld an meinem Herrn geübt."
and it has been, the young person to whom I say, Please incline your pitcher and I drink, and she has said, Drink, and I also water your camels)—her [whom] You have decided for Your servant, for Isaac; and by it I know that You have done kindness with my lord.”
15 Noch hatte er nicht ausgeredet, da kam Rebekka heraus, die dem Betuel, dem Sohne Milkas, des Weibes Nachors, Abrahams Bruders, geboren war, mit ihrem Krug auf der Schulter.
And it comes to pass, before he has finished speaking, that behold, Rebekah (who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, wife of Nahor, brother of Abraham) is coming out, and her pitcher on her shoulder,
16 Das Mädchen war überaus schön, eine Jungfrau, die noch keinen Mann erkannt hatte. Sie stieg zum Quell hinab, füllte ihren Krug und stieg heraus.
and the young person [is] of very good appearance, a virgin, and a man has not known her; and she goes down to the fountain, and fills her pitcher, and comes up.
17 Da lief ihr der Knecht entgegen und sprach: "Laß mich aus deinem Krug ein wenig Wasser schlürfen!"
And the servant runs to meet her and says, “Please let me swallow a little water from your pitcher”;
18 Sie sprach:"Trink, mein Herr!", und geschwind ließ sie den Krug auf die Hand nieder und gab ihm zu trinken.
and she says, “Drink, my lord”; and she hurries, and lets down her pitcher on her hand, and gives him drink.
19 Als sie ihn hatte genug trinken lassen, sprach sie: "Ich will auch deinen Kamelen schöpfen, bis sie sich satt getrunken haben."
And she finishes giving him drink and says, “Also for your camels I draw until they have finished drinking”;
20 Und eilends goß sie ihren Krug in die Tränkrinne, lief wieder zum Brunnen, Wasser zu schöpfen, und schöpfte so für alle seine Kamele.
and she hurries, and empties her pitcher into the drinking-trough, and runs again to the well to draw, and draws for all his camels.
21 Der Mann aber sah ihr zu, gespannt zu erfahren, ob der Herr ihm seine Reise habe glücken lassen oder nicht.
And the man, wondering at her, remains silent, to know whether YHWH has made his way prosperous or not.
22 Wie sich nun die Kamele sattgetrunken hatten, nahm der Mann einen goldenen Stirnring, einen halben Ring schwer, und legte zwei Armspangen an die Arme, zehn Ringe Goldes schwer.
And it comes to pass, when the camels have finished drinking, that the man takes a golden ring (whose weight [is] a bekah), and two bracelets for her hands (whose weight [is] ten [bekahs] of gold),
23 Und er sprach: "Wessen Tochter bist du? Sag mir's doch! Ist wohl Platz in deines Vaters Haus für uns zum Übemachten?"
and says, “Whose daughter [are] you? Please declare to me, is the house of your father a place for us to lodge in?”
24 Sie sprach zu ihm: "Ich bin die Tochter des Betuel, den Milka dem Nachor einst geboren hat."
And she says to him, “I [am] daughter of Bethuel, son of Milcah, whom she has borne to Nahor.”
25 Dann sprach sie zu ihm: "Stroh und Futter haben wir in Menge sowie Platz zum Übernachten."
She also says to him, “Both straw and provender [are] abundant with us, also a place to lodge in.”
26 Da neigte sich der Mann, warf sich vor dem Herrn nieder und sprach:
And the man bows, and pays respect to YHWH,
27 "Gepriesen sei der Herr, meines Herrn Abraham Gott, der seine Huld und Treue meinem Herrn nicht vorenthalten! Ich bin da auf dem rechten Wege; mich hat der Herr zum Haus der Brüder meines Herrn geführt."
and says, “Blessed [is] YHWH, God of my lord Abraham, who has not left off His kindness and His truth with my lord—I [being] in the way, YHWH has led me to the house of my lord’s brothers.”
28 Das Mädchen aber lief und berichtete im Hause ihrer Mutter dies Begebnis.
And the young person runs, and declares to the house of her mother according to these words.
29 Rebekka aber hatte einen Bruder namens Laban; Laban lief nun zu dem Mann an den Quell hinaus.
And Rebekah has a brother, and his name [is] Laban, and Laban runs to the man who [is] outside, to the fountain;
30 Kaum hatte er aber den Stirnring und die Spangen an den Armen seiner Schwester gesehen und seiner Schwester Rebekka Bericht vernommen: "So hat der Mann zu mir gesprochen", kam er schon zu dem Manne, dieser aber stand noch bei den Kamelen an dem Quell.
indeed, it comes to pass, when he sees the ring, and the bracelets on the hands of his sister, and when he hears the words of his sister Rebekah, saying, “Thus has the man spoken to me,” that he comes to the man, and behold, he is standing by the camels by the fountain.
31 Er sprach: "Komm, du Gesegneter des Herrn! Warum stehst du da draußen? Habe ich doch das Haus aufgeräumt und Platz für die Kamele gemacht."
And he says, “Come in, O blessed one of YHWH! Why do you stand outside—and I have prepared the house and place for the camels?”
32 So brachte der Mann die Kamele ins Haus und schirrte sie ab; dann brachte jener Stroh und Futter für die Kamele und Wasser zum Füßewaschen für ihn und die Männer bei ihm.
And he brings in the man into the house, and looses the camels, and gives straw and provender for the camels, and water to wash his feet, and the feet of the men who [are] with him:
33 Dann setzte man ihm zu essen vor; er aber sprach: "Ich esse nicht eher, als bis ich meine Sache vorgebracht." Sie sagten: "So rede!"
and sets before him to eat; but he says, “I do not eat until I have spoken my word”; and he says, “Speak.”
34 Er sprach: "Ich bin Abrahams Knecht.
And he says, “I [am] Abraham’s servant;
35 Reich gesegnet hat der Herr meinen Herrn, daß er zu großem Wohlstande gelangte. Er hat ihm Schafe und Rinder, Silber und Gold geschenkt, Sklaven, Mägde, Kamele und Esel.
and YHWH has blessed my lord exceedingly, and he is great; and He gives to him flock, and herd, and silver, and gold, and menservants, and maidservants, and camels, and donkeys;
36 Nun gebar auch Sara, meines Herrn Weib, meinem Herrn einen Sohn noch nach ihrem Altern. Ihm übergab er seinen ganzen Besitz.
and Sarah, my lord’s wife, bears a son to my lord, after she has been aged, and he gives to him all that he has.
37 Nun ließ mich mein Herr also schwören: 'Du darfst für meinen Sohn kein Weib freien von den Töchtern der Kanaaniter, in deren Land ich wohne.
And my lord causes me to swear, saying, You do not take a wife to my son from the daughters of the Canaanite, in whose land I am dwelling.
38 Nein! Du ziehst zu meines Vaters Haus und zu meiner Sippe und freist meinem Sohne ein Weib.'
If not—to the house of my father you go, and to my family, and you have taken a wife for my son.
39 Da sprach ich zu meinem Herrn: 'Wenn aber das Weib mir nicht folgen will?'
And I say to my lord, It may be the woman does not come after me;
40 Da sagte er zu mir: 'Der Herr, vor dessen Antlitz ich gewandelt, wird seinen Engel mit dir senden; dann läßt er deine Reise wohl gelingen, und du freist meinem Sohne ein Weib aus meiner Sippe, und zwar aus meines Vaters Haus.
and he says to me, YHWH, before whom I have habitually walked, sends His messenger with you, and has prospered your way, and you have taken a wife for my son from my family, and from the house of my father;
41 Nur dann sollst du meines Eides ledig sein. Kommst du zu meiner Sippe und geben sie dir nichts, dann bist du meines Eides ledig.'
then you are acquitted from my oath, when you come to my family; and if they do not give [one] to you, then you have been acquitted from my oath.
42 Nun kam ich heute zum Quell; da sprach ich: Herr, Gott Abrahams, meines Herrn! Läßt du mir meine Reise, die ich unternommen, wohl gelingen?
And I come to the fountain today, and I say, YHWH, God of my lord Abraham, now if You are making prosperous my way in which I am going—
43 Hier stehe ich am Wasserquell. Nun sei es das junge Mädchen, das zum Schöpfen kommt und das ich anrede: 'Laß mich ein wenig Wasser aus deinem Kruge trinken!'
(behold, I am standing by the fountain of water), then the virgin is coming out to draw, and I have said to her, Please let me drink a little water from your pitcher,
44 und das mir sagt: 'Trink du selber! Und auch den Kamelen will ich schöpfen!' Sie ist das Weib, das der Herr dem Sohne meines Herrn bestimmt hat.
and she has said to me, Both drink, and I also draw for your camels—she is the woman whom YHWH has decided for my lord’s son.
45 Kaum hatte ich so bei mir geschlossen, da kam Rebekka heraus, den Krug auf der Schulter, stieg zum Quell hinab und schöpfte. Ich sprach zu ihr: 'Gib mir zu trinken!'
Before I finish speaking to my heart, then behold, Rebekah is coming out, and her pitcher [is] on her shoulder, and she goes down to the fountain and draws; and I say to her, Please let me drink,
46 Da ließ sie eilends ihren Krug herab und sprach: 'Da! Trink! Und auch deine Kamele will ich tränken.' Da trank ich, und da tränkte sie auch die Kamele.
and she hurries and lets down her pitcher from off her and says, Drink, and I also water your camels; and I drink, and she has also watered the camels.
47 Nun fragte ich sie und sprach: 'Wessen Tochter bist du?' Sie sprach: 'Die Tochter des Nachorsohnes Betuel, den jenem Milka einst geboren.' Da legte ich den Ring ihr an die Stirn und die Spangen an die Arme.
And I ask her, and say, Whose daughter [are] you? And she says, Daughter of Bethuel, son of Nahor, whom Milcah has borne to him, and I put the ring on her nose, and the bracelets on her hands,
48 Alsdann verneigte ich mich, warf mich vor dem Herrn nieder und pries den Herrn, meines Herrn Abraham Gott, der mich auf rechten Weg geführt, die Tochter eines Bruders meines Herrn für seinen Sohn zu freien.
and I bow, and pay respect before YHWH, and I bless YHWH, God of my lord Abraham, who has led me in the true way to receive the daughter of my lord’s brother for his son.
49 Wollt ihr nun Liebe und Treue meinem Herrn erweisen, so sagt es mir! Wo nicht, so sagt's mir auch, daß ich mich zur Rechten oder Linken wende!"
And now, if you are dealing kindly and truly with my lord, declare to me; and if not, declare to me; and I turn to the right or to the left.”
50 Da antworteten Laban und Betuel und sprachen: "Das kommt vom Herrn; wir können weder gut noch übel dich bescheiden.
And Laban answers—Bethuel also—and they say, “The thing has gone out from YHWH; we are not able to speak to you bad or good;
51 Rebekka steht dir zur Verfügung. Nimm sie und geh, daß sie dem Sohne deines Herrn zum Weibe werde, wie der Herr gesagt!"
behold, Rebekah [is] before you, take and go, and she is a wife to your lord’s son, as YHWH has spoken.”
52 Als Abrahams Knecht ihre Worte hörte, warf er sich vor dem Herrn auf die Erde nieder.
And it comes to pass, when the servant of Abraham has heard their words, that he bows himself toward the earth before YHWH;
53 Dann zog der Knecht silberne und goldene Geräte und Gewänder hervor und schenkte sie Rebekka; ihrem Bruder und ihrer Mutter gab er Kleinodien.
and the servant takes out vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and garments, and gives to Rebekah; precious things also he has given to her brother and to her mother.
54 Sie aßen nun und tranken, er und die Männer bei ihm und blieben über Nacht. Am anderen Morgen, als sie aufstanden, sprach er: "Entlaßt mich zu meinem Herrn!"
And they eat and drink, he and the men who [are] with him, and lodge all night; and they rise in the morning, and he says, “Send me to my lord”;
55 Da sprachen ihr Bruder und ihre Mutter: "Laß noch das Mädchen einige Tage oder doch wenigstens zehn bei uns! Dann mag sie ziehen."
and her brother says—her mother also, “Let the young person abide with us a week or ten days, afterward she goes.”
56 Da sprach er zu ihnen: "Haltet mich nicht auf! Der Herr hat meine Reise glücken lassen. Entlasset mich, daß ich zu meinem Herrn ziehe!"
And he says to them, “Do not delay me, seeing YHWH has prospered my way; send me away, and I go to my lord”;
57 Sie sprachen: "Wir wollen das Mädchen rufen und sie selbst befragen."
and they say, “Let us call for the young person, and inquire of her mouth”;
58 Da riefen sie Rebekka und sprachen zu ihr: "Willst du mit diesem Manne ziehen?" Sie sagte: "Ja!"
and they call for Rebekah, and say to her, “Do you go with this man?” And she says, “I go.”
59 Da ließen sie ihre Schwester Rebekka mit ihrer Amme ziehen, ebenso den Knecht Abrahams mit seinen Leuten.
And they send away their sister Rebekah, and her nurse, and Abraham’s servant, and his men;
60 Und sie segneten Rebekka und sprachen zu ihr: "Unsere Schwester, werde du zu ungezählten Tausenden! Mögen deine Nachkommen das Tor ihrer Hasser besetzen!"
and they bless Rebekah, and say to her, “You [are] our sister; become thousands of myriads, and your seed possesses the gate of those hating it.”
61 Dann brach Rebekka mit ihren Mägden auf; sie ritten auf den Kamelen und folgten dem Manne. So nahm der Knecht Rebekka und zog von dannen.
And Rebekah and her young women arise, and ride on the camels, and go after the man; and the servant takes Rebekah and goes.
62 Isaak aber war vom Brunnen Lachaj Roi hergekommen. Er wohnte nunmehr im Südland.
And Isaac has come in from the entrance of the Well of the Living One, my Beholder; and he is dwelling in the land of the south,
63 Nun ging Isaak zum Betrachten bei Abendanbruch aufs Feld hinaus. Wie er aber die Augen erhob, kamen Kamele daher.
and Isaac goes out to meditate in the field, at the turning of the evening, and he lifts up his eyes, and looks, and behold, camels are coming.
64 Auch Rebekka erhob ihre Augen und erblickte Isaak. Da beugte sie sich vom Kamele herab,
And Rebekah lifts up her eyes, and sees Isaac, and comes down off the camel;
65 und sprach zu dem Knechte: "Wer ist der Mann da drüben, der uns auf dem Felde entgegenkommt?" Der Knecht sprach: "Das ist mein Herr." Da nahm sie den Schleier und verhüllte sich.
and she says to the servant, “Who [is] this man who is walking in the field to meet us?” And the servant says, “It [is] my lord”; and she takes the veil, and covers herself.
66 Der Knecht aber erzählte dem Isaak alles, was er ausgerichtet hatte.
And the servant recounts to Isaac all the things that he has done,
67 Da führte Isaak sie in seiner Mutter Sara Zelt. Er freite Rebekka, und sie ward sein Weib, und er gewann sie lieb. So tröstete sich Isaak über seiner Mutter Verlust.
and Isaac brings her into the tent of his mother Sarah, and he takes Rebekah, and she becomes his wife, and he loves her, and Isaac is comforted after [the death of] his mother.
