1 Der König Ahasveros aber ließ vom Land und von des Meeres Inseln die Steuern wieder eintreiben.

King Ahasuerus imposed a tribute on the land and the coasts.

2 Sind alle die Erweise seiner Macht und Stärke und die genaueste Beschreibung jener hohen Würde Mordekais, zu der der König ihn erhob, nicht in dem Buche der Geschichte der Könige von Medien und Persien aufgezeichnet?

All the acts of his power and of his might, and the full account of the greatness of Mordecai to which the king advanced him, are they not recorded in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Media and Persia?

3 Denn Mordekai, der Jude, besaß den zweiten Rang nach König Ahasveros, und für die Juden war er gar bedeutungsvoll, beliebt bei seiner Brüder Masse, weil er seines Volkes Heil erstrebte und für sein ganzes Geschlecht zum Besten sprach.

For Mordecai the Jew was next in rank to King Ahasuerus, and great among the Jews, and loved by them all. He sought the good of his people and promoted the welfare of their descendants.
