1 "Bringt dich der Herr, dein Gott, in das Land, in das du zu seiner Besetzung kommst, und treibt er viele Völker vor dir aus: die Chittiter, Girgasiter, Amoriter, Kanaaniter, Periziter, Chiwiter und Jebusiter, sieben Völker, zahlreicher und mächtiger als du,
When the LORD your God brings you into the land that you are entering to possess, and He drives out before you many nations—the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, seven nations larger and stronger than you—
2 gibt der Herr, dein Gott, sie dir preis und schlägst du sie, dann sollst du sie bannen! Du sollst keinen Bund mit ihnen schließen! Du sollst keine Gnade an ihnen üben!
and when the LORD your God has delivered them over to you to defeat them, then you must devote them to complete destruction. Make no treaty with them and show them no mercy.
3 Du sollst dich nicht mit ihnen verschwägern! Du sollst deine Tochter keinem ihrer Söhne zum Weibe geben! Du sollst keine ihrer Töchter für deinen Sohn zum Weibe nehmen!
Do not intermarry with them. Do not give your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons,
4 Denn sie könnte deinen Sohn mir abspenstig machen, und er könnte anderen Göttern dienen. Dann aber zürnte der Herr über euch und tilgte dich schnell.
because they will turn your sons away from following Me to serve other gods. Then the anger of the LORD will burn against you, and He will swiftly destroy you.
5 Tut so mit ihnen: Ihre Altäre sollt ihr zerstören, zertrümmern ihre Steinmale, ihre heiligen Bäume fällen und ihre Gottesbilder verbrennen!
Instead, this is what you are to do to them: tear down their altars, smash their sacred pillars, cut down their Asherah poles, and burn their idols in the fire.
6 Denn ein heilig Volk bist du dem Herrn, deinem Gott. Dich hat der Herr, dein Gott, zum eigenen Volke erkoren aus allen Völkern auf dem Erdboden.
For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for His prized possession out of all peoples on the face of the earth.
7 Nicht weil ihr zahlreicher seid als die anderen Völker, hat euch der Herr begehrt, so daß er euch erkor; denn ihr seid das kleinste aller Völker,
The LORD did not set His affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than the other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples.
8 sondern weil der Herr euch liebt und den Schwur hält, den er euren Vätern geleistet hat. So hat euch der Herr mit starker Hand hinweggeführt und so befreite er dich aus dem Sklavenhaus, aus der Hand des Ägypterkönigs Pharao.
But because the LORD loved you and kept the oath He swore to your fathers, He brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
9 So wisse, daß der Herr, dein Gott, der Gott ist, der unvergängliche Gott. Er bewahrt den Bund und die Huld bis ins tausendste Geschlecht denen, die ihn lieben und seine Gebote halten.
Know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps His covenant of loving devotion for a thousand generations of those who love Him and keep His commandments.
10 Aber seinen Hassern vergilt er öffentlich durch Vernichtung. Er gibt seinem Hasser keinen Aufschub, sondern vergilt ihm öffentlich.
But those who hate Him He repays to their faces with destruction; He will not hesitate to repay to his face the one who hates Him.
11 Darum befolge das Gesetz, die Gebote und Gebräuche, die ich dir heute zu tun gebiete!
So keep the commandments and statutes and ordinances that I am giving you to follow this day.
12 Zum Lohne dafür, daß ihr diesen Vorschriften gehorchet, sie beobachtet und befolget, wahrt dir der Herr, dein Gott, den Bund und die Huld, die er deinen Vätern zugeschworen.
If you listen to these ordinances and keep them carefully, then the LORD your God will keep His covenant and the loving devotion that He swore to your fathers.
13 Er liebt dich, segnet dich und mehrt dich. Er segnet deine Leibesfrucht und deine Feldfrucht, dein Korn, deinen Wein und dein Öl, den Wurf deiner Rinder und die Zucht deiner Schafe in dem Land, das er deinen Vätern zugeschworen, dir zu geben.
He will love you and bless you and multiply you. He will bless the fruit of your womb and the produce of your land—your grain, new wine, and oil, the young of your herds and the lambs of your flocks—in the land that He swore to your fathers to give you.
14 Gesegnet bist du dann vor allen Völkern. Bei dir ist nichts Unfruchtbares weder beim Manne noch beim Weibe noch beim Vieh.
You will be blessed above all peoples; among you there will be no barren man or woman or livestock.
15 Der Herr hält dir jede Krankheit fern und legt dir keine der bösen ägyptischen Seuchen auf, die du kennst. Er belegt damit alle deine Hasser.
And the LORD will remove from you all sickness. He will not lay upon you any of the terrible diseases you knew in Egypt, but He will inflict them on all who hate you.
16 Vertilge die Völker alle, die der Herr, dein Gott, dir preisgibt! Du sollst nicht auf sie schauen! Du sollst nicht ihren Göttern dienen! Denn das wäre dir ein Fallstrick.
You must destroy all the peoples the LORD your God will deliver to you. Do not look on them with pity. Do not worship their gods, for that will be a snare to you.
17 Denkst du aber: 'Diese Völker sind größer als ich, wie könnte ich sie besiegen?',
You may say in your heart, “These nations are greater than we are; how can we drive them out?”
18 so sollst du dich nicht vor ihnen fürchten! Du sollst bedenken, was der Herr, dein Gott, dem Pharao und ganz Ägypten getan,
But do not be afraid of them. Be sure to remember what the LORD your God did to Pharaoh and all Egypt:
19 die großen Proben, die du mit eigenen Augen gesehen, die Zeichen und Wunder, die starke Hand und den gereckten Arm, womit dich der Herr, dein Gott, befreit hat! Also wird der Herr, dein Gott, mit all den Völkern tun, vor denen du dich fürchtest.
the great trials that you saw, the signs and wonders, and the mighty hand and outstretched arm by which the LORD your God brought you out. The LORD your God will do the same to all the peoples you now fear.
20 Ja, selbst Hornissen sendet der Herr, dein Gott, wider sie, bis vernichtet sind die Übriggebliebenen, die sich vor dir versteckten.
Moreover, the LORD your God will send the hornet against them until even the survivors hiding from you have perished.
21 Du sollst dich nicht vor ihnen entsetzen! Denn der Herr, dein Gott, ist in deiner Mitte, ein Gott, groß und furchtbar.
Do not be terrified by them, for the LORD your God, who is among you, is a great and awesome God.
22 Der Herr, dein Gott, vertreibt diese Völker nur allmählich vor dir. Du darfst sie aber nicht zu rasch vertilgen, sonst wüchse über dich das Wild des Feldes.
The LORD your God will drive out these nations before you little by little. You will not be enabled to eliminate them all at once, or the wild animals would multiply around you.
23 Der Herr, dein Gott, gibt sie dir preis und setzt sie in gewaltigen Schrecken, bis sie vernichtet sind.
But the LORD your God will give them over to you and throw them into great confusion, until they are destroyed.
24 Er gibt auch ihre Könige in deine Hand, und du tilgst ihren Namen unterm Himmel. Niemand hält vor dir stand, bis du sie vertilgt hast.
He will hand their kings over to you, and you will wipe out their names from under heaven. No one will be able to stand against you; you will annihilate them.
25 Ihre Götterbilder sollt ihr verbrennen. Nach dem Silber und Gold daran soll dich nicht gelüsten; nimm es dir nicht! Sonst wirst du dadurch umgarnt. Denn das ist dem Herrn, deinem Gott, ein Greuel.
You must burn up the images of their gods; do not covet the silver and gold that is on them or take it for yourselves, or you will be ensnared by it; for it is detestable to the LORD your God.
26 Du sollst keinen Greuel in dein Haus bringen, daß du nicht gleich ihm gebannt würdest! Du sollst es verabscheuen und Grauen davor haben! Denn es ist gebannt."
And you must not bring any detestable thing into your house, or you, like it, will be set apart for destruction. You are to utterly detest and abhor it, because it is set apart for destruction.
