5 Mose 13
1 Tritt bei dir ein Prophet auf oder einer, der Träume hat, und bietet dir ein Zeichen oder Wunder an,
Maybe a prophet or someone who has dreams about the future comes along and gives you a prediction you about some sign or miracle,
2 und das Zeichen oder Wunder trifft ein, das er dir vorausgesagt, und er spricht: 'Wir wollen anderen Göttern folgen, die du nicht kennst, und ihnen dienen',
and the sign or wonder does happens. If after that they tell you, “Let's follow other gods that you don't know, and let's worship them,”
3 so sollst du nicht auf die Worte jenes Propheten oder Träumers hören! Denn der Herr, euer Gott, versucht euch, um zu erkennen, ob ihr den Herrn, euren Gott, liebt von ganzem Herzen und aus ganzer Seele!
then you must not listen to what that prophet or dreamer has to say because the Lord your God is trying to find out whether you really love him with all your mind and with all your being.
4 Dem Herrn, eurem Gott, sollt ihr folgen! Ihn sollt ihr fürchten! Seine Gebote sollt ihr halten! Auf seine Stimme sollt ihr hören! Ihm sollt ihr dienen und ihm anhangen!
You are to follow the Lord your God and respect him. Keep his commandments and do what he says; worship him and hold onto him.
5 Jener Prophet oder Träumer soll des Todes sein! Denn geraten hat er zum Abfall vom Herrn, eurem Gott, der euch aus Ägypterland geführt und dich aus dem Sklavenhaus befreit. Er wollte dich vom Weg lenken, auf dem der Herr, dein Gott, dir zu wandeln geboten. So tilge den Bösen aus deiner Mitte!
These kinds of prophet or dreamer must be executed, because they have promoted rebellion against the Lord your God, who led you out of Egypt and rescued you from the prison-house of slavery. They have tried to lead you from the way that the Lord your God has ordered you to follow. You must eliminate the evil among you.
6 Will dein Bruder, deiner Mutter Sohn, dich heimlich bereden oder dein Sohn oder deine Tochter oder dein liebes Weib oder dein Freund, der dir ist wie dein Leben, mit den Worten: 'Laßt uns gehen und anderen Göttern dienen!', die dir und deinen Vätern unbekannt sind,
Even if your own brother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you love, or your best friend secretly encourages you, saying, “Let's go and worship other gods” unfamiliar to you and your forefathers,
7 von den Göttern der Völker rings um euch her, den dir nahen oder fernen, von einem Ende der Erde bis zum anderen,
the gods of your pagan nation neighbors, whether they love close by or far away in any direction,
8 so sollst du ihm nicht willfahren noch ihm Gehör geben! Du sollst keinen Blick des Mitleids für ihn haben, noch seiner schonen, noch seine Schuld verheimlichen!
don't give into them or listen to them. Show them no mercy. Don't spare them or protect them.
9 Nein! Du sollst ihn umbringen! Deine Hand soll zuerst gegen ihn sein, ihn zu töten, danach die Hand des ganzen Volkes!
No, you absolutely must kill them! You start killing them, and then have everyone else help.
10 Steinige ihn zu Tode! Denn er hat dich absprengen wollen vom Herrn, deinem Gott, der dich aus Ägypterland geführt, aus dem Sklavenhaus.
Stone the person to death for trying lead you away from the Lord your God, who led you out of Egypt, out of the prison-house of slavery.
11 Ganz Israel soll es hören und sich fürchten, daß niemand mehr solch Schlimmes tue in deiner Mitte!
Then every Israelite will hear about it and be afraid, and won't ever do such an evil thing among you.
12 Hörst du in einer deiner Städte, die dir der Herr, dein Gott, zur Siedlung gibt:
It may happen that once you're living in the towns the Lord your God is giving you, you hear
13 Nichtswürdige Leute sind in deiner Mitte aufgekommen und haben die Insassen ihrer Stadt verführt mit den Worten: 'Laßt uns gehen und anderen Göttern dienen!', die ihr nicht kennt,
that evil people have taken over in one of your towns and have led the people there astray, telling them, “Let's go and worship other gods” that you don't know.
14 dann untersuche, forsche und frage genau! Und ist es wahr, ist die Sache richtig, ist in deiner Mitte solcher Greuel verübt worden,
If this does happen you need to make a full investigation, inquiring about the facts and interrogating witnesses. If it's proved beyond doubt that this awful sin has actually been committed among you,
15 dann sollst du die Insassen jener Stadt mit des Schwertes Schärfe töten! Banne sie und alles darin und ihr Vieh mit des Schwertes Schärfe!
then you have to kill the people living in that town with the sword. Set apart for destruction its people and its livestock.
16 All ihren Plunder sollst du auf ihren Markt tragen! Verbrenne die Stadt samt all ihrem Plunder gänzlich, wegen des Herrn, deines Gottes! Sie bleibe ewig ein Schutthügel und soll nimmer aufgebaut werden!
You must pile up all the people's possessions in the middle of the public square, and completely burn the town and everything in it as a complete burnt offering to the Lord your God. The town must remain a heap of ruins forever. It must never be rebuilt.
17 Nichts von dem Banngut soll an deiner Hand kleben, auf daß der Herr von seinem grimmen Zorn lasse, dir Erbarmen spende und dich erbarmend mehre, wie er deinen Vätern zugeschworen,
Don't take for yourselves anything that has been set apart for destruction so that the Lord won't be angry any more. He will be merciful to you, showing you compassion, and giving you many descendants as he promised to your forefathers,
18 falls du auf des Herrn, deines Gottes, Stimme hörst, alle seine Gebote, die ich dir heute gebiete, hältst und tust, was recht ist in den Augen des Herrn, deines Gottes!"
because you are obeying the Lord your God, keeping all his commandments that I'm giving you today, and doing what is right in the sight of the Lord your God.
