Daniel 11

1 Im ersten Jahr des medischen Darius besaß ich schon das Amt, zu helfen und ihm beizustehen.

And I also, in the first year of Darius the Mede, stood up to confirm and strengthen him.

2 Nun will ich dir's im wesentlichen künden: Noch stehen drei Könige in Persien auf. Der vierte bringt noch größeren Reichtum als die andern all zusammen, und, im Vertraun auf seinen Reichtum, setzt er dem ganzen Griechenreiche zu.

And now I will tell thee what is true. Behold, there shall arise yet three kings in Persia, and the fourth shall be far richer than they all; and, relying upon his riches, he shall stir up all against the realm of Greece.

3 Dann steht ein großer König auf, beherrscht ein großes Reich und tut, was ihm gefällt.

But a mighty king shall arise, and rule with great dominion, and do according to his will.

4 Steht er auf seiner Höhe, wird sein Reich zertrümmert und nach vier Himmelswinden aufgeteilt, nicht aber unter seine Nachkommen und nicht mehr von der Macht, die er besessen. Wird doch sein Reich zerrissen und verteilt an andere als jene.

But when he shall have arisen, his kingdom shall be broken in pieces, and shall be divided toward the four winds of heaven; and not to his posterity, nor with the dominion with which he ruled; for his kingdom shall be plucked up, and divided amongst others besides those.

5 Und mächtig wird des Südens König. Von seinen Fürsten aber wird noch einer mächtiger als dieser. Er wird ein großes Reich beherrschen.

And the king of the South shall become strong; but one of his princes shall become stronger than he, and have dominion; his dominion shall be a great dominion.

6 Dann nach Verlauf von Jahren treten sie in engere Verbindung. Des Königs Tochter aus dem Süden kommt zum Könige des Nordens, um die Freundschaft zu festigen. Den starken Beistand wird sie nicht behalten; denn weder er noch seine Macht sind mehr von Dauer. So wird sie hingeopfert, sie und die sie hinbegleitet hatten, ihr Sohn und die ihr in Gefahren Hilfe leisten wollten.

And after some years they shall ally themselves with each other; and the daughter of the king of the South shall come to the king of the North, to make peace; but she shall not retain the power of giving aid; neither shall he stand, nor his aid; but she shall be given up, and they that caused her to go, and he that begat her, and he that received her in those times.

7 Aus ihrem Wurzelschoße steht an seiner Stelle einer auf. Er stellt sich an des Heeres Spitze, zieht gegen des Nordkönigs Festungen und greift sie an und überwältigt sie.

But from a shoot of her roots shall one arise in his place, who shall come to an army, and shall come against the fortresses of the king of the North, and shall deal with them according to his pleasure, and prevail against them.

8 Auch ihre Götter samt den Gußbildern, mitsamt den kostbaren Geräten, Gold und Silber bringt er dann als Beute nach Ägypten. Er ist dem Könige des Nordens während ein paar Jahren überlegen.

And their gods, with their molten images, and their precious vessels of silver and of gold, shall he carry into captivity into Egypt; then shall he stand away for many years from the king of the North;

9 Der kommt ins Reich des Königs in den Süden, kehrt dann aber heim.

and he shall come against the kingdom of the king of the South, but he shall return into his own land.

10 Doch seine Söhne werden kriegerischer sein und große Heere sammeln. Losbrechen wird der eine, überflutend kommen und bis zu seiner Festung wiederholt den Krieg vortragen.

But his sons shall be stirred up, and shall assemble a multitude of large forces; and one of them shall move onward, and overflow, and pass through, and shall again stir himself up to carry on the war even to his stronghold.

11 Erbittert zieht darauf des Südens König auch zu Feld, um mit des Nordens König nun zu kämpfen. Er wird ein großes Heer aufstellen, und dies wird seinem eigenen Befehle untergeben sein.

Then shall the king of the South be enraged, and shall come forth and fight with him, even with the king of the North; and shall lead forth a great multitude, and the multitude shall be given into his hand.

12 Das Heer, begeistert und voll hohen Muts, streckt Tausende zu Boden, und doch behält er nicht die Oberhand.

And the multitude shall be elated, and his heart shall be lifted up, and he shall cast down tens of thousands; but he shall not be strong.

13 Des Nordens König stellt ein größer Heer auf, als das erste je gewesen, und kommt nach Jahren dann mit einem großen Heer und vielem Kriegsgerät.

For the king of the North shall return and raise up against him a multitude greater than the former, and shall steadily come after certain years with a great army and with great riches.

14 In jenen Zeiten stehn Irrlehrer wider den König aus dem Süden auf. Aufrührer deines Volkes befördern voll Vermessenheit dann des Gesichts Erfüllung und ihr Ende.

And in those times many will stand up against the king of the South; and violent men of thy people shall exalt themselves, so as to establish the vision, and shall fall.

15 Des Nordens König zieht heran und kommt, er wirft dann Dämme auf und nimmt so eine feste Stadt. Des Südens Kräfte werden nichts vermögen, und auch das auserlesene Volk hat nicht die Kraft, sich zu behaupten.

And the king of the North shall come, and cast up a mound, and take a fortified city; and the arms of the South shall not withstand, neither his chosen men, neither shall there be any strength to withstand.

16 So tut, der gegen ihn gezogen, was er will, und niemand kann sich vor ihm halten. Dann rückt er in das Wunderland, und dies fällt ganz in seine Hände.

And he that cometh against him shall do according to his will, and none shall stand before him; and he shall stand in the beautiful land, and destruction shall be in his hand.

17 Dann faßt er den Entschluß, mit seines Reiches ganzer Macht zu kommen. Doch muß er mit ihm Frieden machen. Er gibt ihm eine Tochter, damit sie dort verderblich wirke. Doch kommt es nicht zustande, es gelingt ihm nicht.

And he shall set his face to come with the strength of his whole kingdom, and shall make pacification with him; and he shall give him his daughter in marriage, to ruin his dominion. But it shall not succeed, neither shall it be for him.

18 Nun wendet er sich nach den Küstenländern und erobert ihrer viele. Ein Fürst jedoch macht seinem Hohn ein Ende, ja, er gibt ihm seinen Hohn zurück.

After this he shall turn his face to the isles, and shall take many; but a commander shall put an end to his scorn; nay, shall cause his scorn to return upon himself.

19 Er wendet sich zu seines Landes festen Plätzen; dann aber strauchelt er und fällt und ist nicht mehr.

Then shall he turn his face to the strongholds of his own land; and he shall stumble, and fall, and shall not be found.

20 An seine Stelle tritt ein anderer, der Gelderpresser durch das herrlichste der Reiche schickt. Nach wenigen Tagen wird er dann vernichtet, doch nicht im Zorn und nicht im Kampf.

Then shall arise in his place one who shall send an exacter of tribute through the glory of his kingdom; but within few days shall he be destroyed, neither by anger nor by battle.

21 An seine Stelle setzt sich ein Verworfener, zur Königswürde nicht bestimmt. Er kommt voll List, und so bemächtigt er sich durch Betrug des Reiches.

And in his place shall arise a despised person, to whom they shall not give the honor of the kingdom; but in the midst of peace he shall come in and obtain the kingdom by flatteries.

22 Streitkräfte werden weggeschwemmt vor seinem Angesicht; mitsamt dem Bundesfürsten werden sie vernichtet.

And the forces of a flood shall be overwhelmed before him, and shall be broken in pieces; and even the prince that is allied with him.

23 Und hat er sich mit ihm verbündet, dann wird betrügerisch er handeln, mit wenig Kriegsvolk einen Angriff wagen und der Sieger sein.

For after making a league with him, he will practise deceit; for he will come up, and prevail with a small people.

24 In ein friedliches, reiches Land kommt er und tut dort, was die Väter seiner Väter nicht getan. Und Beute, Raub und Güter nimmt er ihnen und richtet auf die festen Plätze seine Pläne, jedoch nur für gewisse Zeit.

In the midst of security shall he come into the fattest provinces of the land, and he shall do what his fathers never did, nor his fathers' fathers; he shall scatter among them prey, and spoil, and riches; and he shall form his devices against the strongholds, even to a set time.

25 Dann stärkt er seine Kraft und seinen Mut zum Angriff auf des Südens König durch ein großes Heer. Den Kampf beginnt des Südens König mit großem und sehr starkem Heer. Doch hält er nimmer stand. Geschmiedet werden Ränke gegen ihn,

And he shall stir up his power and his courage against the king of the South, with a great army; and the king of the South shall be stirred up to battle with a very great and mighty army; but he shall not stand, for they shall form devices against him.

26 und seine Tischgenossen richten ihn zugrunde. Sein Heer wird alles überschwemmen, und fallen werden viele, die erschlagen.

Even they that eat of his own food shall destroy him; and his army shall overflow, and many shall fall down slain.

27 Es sinnen beide Könige auf Böses; an einer Tafel speisend, belügen sie sich gegenseitig. Doch nimmt's kein günstig Ende. Denn erst zu der bestimmten Zeit erfolgt das Ende.

And the hearts of both these kings shall be to do mischief; and at one table shall they speak lies; but it shall not prosper; for yet the end is for the appointed time.

28 Er kehrt nun in sein Land zurück mit großer Habe und richtet auf den heiligen Bund den Sinn. Er führt den Plan auch aus und kehrt dann in sein Land zurück.

Then shall he return into his land with great riches; and he will set his heart against the holy covenant, and he will execute his purposes, and return to his own land.

29 Zur festgesetzten Zeit zieht er aufs neue in den Süden. Doch ist's das zweitemal nicht so, wie bei dem erstenmal.

At the appointed time he shall again go against the South; but the second time it shall not be as at the first.

30 Aus Cypern kommen mit ihm Schiffe. Doch eingeschüchtert, läßt er seinen Grimm am heiligen Bunde wieder aus und schenkt Beachtung denen, die am heiligen Bund gefrevelt.

For the Chittaean ships shall come against him, and he shall be discouraged, and return, and be enraged against the holy covenant, and execute his purposes; and he shall again have an understanding with them that forsake the holy covenant.

31 Streitkräfte seines Heeres treten auf, und sie entweihn das Heiligtum, die Burg und schaffen ab das täglich Opfer und stellen dann das Götzenscheusal auf.

And forces shall be raised by him, which shall pollute the sanctuary, the stronghold, and take away the daily sacrifice, and set up the abomination of the destroyer.

32 Die an dem Bunde freveln, sucht er nun durch Schmeichelei'n zum Abfall zu verleiten. Das Volk jedoch, das seinen Gott noch anerkennt, wird sich zur Tat ermannen.

And such as do wickedly against the covenant will he lead to apostasy by flatteries; but the people that know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.

33 Des Volkes Weise werden viele recht belehren. Doch sind sie eine Zeit durch Schwert und Feuer und durch Gefangenschaft und Plünderungen unterlegen.

And they that have understanding among the people shall instruct many; but they shall fall by the sword, and by flame, by captivity, and by spoil, many days.

34 Wenn diese fallen, werden jene Rettung finden durch eine unscheinbare Hilfe. Dann aber schlagen sich zu ihnen viele auf heuchlerische Weise.

And whilst they fall they shall receive a little help, and many shall join themselves to them with flatteries.

35 Und von den Weisen fallen manche, um die anderen zu läutern und zu reinigen und fleckenlos zu machen bis auf die Zeit des Endes; denn eine Weile dauert's noch bis zu der festbestimmten Zeit.

And some of them of understanding shall fall, to try them, and to purify, and cleanse, even to the time of the end, for it is yet at the time appointed.

36 Was ihm beliebt, das tut der König und überhebt sich übermütig gegen jeden Gott; auch gegen Gott, der Götter Gott, führt er vermessene Reden. Er hat Gelingen nur, solange nicht der Zorn wird ausgelassen; denn, was beschlossen, muß geschehen.

And the king shall do according to his will; and he will exalt himself and magnify himself against every god, and he will speak horrible things against the God of gods, and he will prosper until the indignation be accomplished; for that which is determined shall be done.

37 Er achtet weder seiner Väter Götter, noch achtet er der schönen Weiber, noch irgendeines Gottes achtet er. Denn er erhebt sich gegen jeden.

Neither will he regard the god of his fathers, nor the desire of women; nor will he regard any god, but he will magnify himself against all.

38 Den Gott der Stärke, den wird er an seiner Statt verehren. Den Gott, den seine Väter nicht gekannt, ehrt er mit Gold und Silber, Edelstein und andern Kostbarkeiten.

But in their place will he honor the god of strongholds, even the god whom his fathers knew not shall he honor with gold, and with silver, and with precious stones, and with jewels.

39 In feste Stellungen bringt er das Volk des fremden Gottes. Und wer ihn anerkennt, den würdigt er gar großer Ehre. Er wird ihm Herrschaft über viele anvertrauen, und Land wird er zum Lohn verteilen.

And he shall do his will against fenced strongholds with a strange god; whoever acknowledge him, to them he will give great honor, and give them dominion over many, and divide the land amongst them for a reward.

40 Zur Zeit des Endes kämpft mit ihm des Südens König. Auf ihn stürmt ein des Nordens König mit Wagen, Rossen, vielen Schiffen, und überströmend, überschwemmend dringt er in die Länder.

But at the time of the end shall the king of the South push at him, and the king of the North shall rush against him like a whirlwind with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and overflow them, and pass over them.

41 Er kommt auch in das Wunderland, und viele kommen da zu Fall. Nur diese werden seiner Hand entgehen: Edom, Moab, der Söhne Ammons bester Teil.

He shall also enter into the beautiful land, and multitudes shall be overthrown; but these shall escape out of his hand, Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the sons of Ammon.

42 An Länder legt er seine Hand; auch das Ägypterland entgeht ihm nicht.

He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries, and the land of Egypt shall not escape.

43 Er wird der Gold- und Silberschätze sich bemächtigen und aller Kostbarkeiten von Ägypten, und die von Lub und Kusch führt er mit sich hinweg.

And he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt; and the Lybians and Ethiopians shall be in his train.

44 Dann schrecken ihn Gerüchte aus dem Osten und dem Norden. Er bricht mit großem Grimme auf, um viele zu vernichten und sie zu vertilgen.

But tidings out of the East and out of the North shall trouble him, and he shall go forth with great fury to destroy and utterly to take away many.

45 Er spannt sein Lagerzelt dann aus dort zwischen Meeren an dem heiligen, berühmten Berg. Hier findet er sein Ende, niemand wird ihm helfen.'

And he shall pitch his palace-tents between the sea and the beautiful holy mountain; but he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.
