Kolosser 4

1 Ihr Herren, gewähret euren Sklaven, was recht und billig ist. Bedenkt, daß auch ihr einen Herrn im Himmel habt.

Masters, do what is right and fair by your slaves, for you know that you also have a Master – in heaven.

2 Seid beharrlich im Gebete; verbindet damit Wachsamkeit und Dankbarkeit.

Devote yourselves to prayer. Give your whole mind to it, and also offer thanksgiving;

3 Betet auch für uns, Gott möge unserer Predigt eine Tür auftun, damit ich das Geheimnis Christi künden könne, um dessentwillen ich gefangen liege,

and at the same time pray for us, so that God may give us an opening for our message, so that we may speak of the truths hidden in the Christ – the truths for which I am in chains!

4 daß ich es so kundtue, wie es mir die Pflicht gebietet.

Then I will make them known, as I ought to do.

5 Wandelt weise bei den Außenstehenden und kauft die Zeit gut aus.

Show tact in your behaviour to the outside world, making the most of every opportunity.

6 Allzeit sei eure Rede liebenswürdig, mit Salz gewürzt, so daß ihr wißt, was ihr einem jeden zur Antwort geben sollt.

Let your conversation always be kindly, but not bland, season it, as it were, with salt; be aware in each case of the answer you should be giving.

7 Wie es mir geht, wird euch Tychikus berichten, der vielgeliebte Bruder, treue Diener und Mitknecht im Herrn.

Our dear friend, Tychicus, will tell you all about me. He is a faithful minister, and a fellow servant in the Master’s cause.

8 Gerade deshalb schicke ich ihn ja zu euch, damit ihr erfahret, wie es mit uns steht, und er eure Herzen aufmuntere.

I send him to you expressly that you may learn our circumstances, and that he may give you encouragement.

9 Onesimus, der treue und geliebte Bruder, euer Landsmann, begleitet ihn. Sie werden euch alles von hier berichten.

With him will be Onesimus, our dear faithful friend, who is one of yourselves. They will tell you all that is going on here.

10 Es grüßt euch Aristarch, mein Mitgefangener, und Markus, der Vetter des Barnabas. Ihr habt ja über ihn schon Anweisung erhalten. Nehmt ihn auf, wenn er zu euch kommt.

My fellow prisoner, Aristarchus, sends you his greeting, and Barnabas’s cousin, Mark, sends his. (You have received directions about him. If he comes to you, make him welcome.)

11 Es grüßt euch ferner Jesus, mit dem Beinamen Justus. Das sind die einzigen aus der Beschneidung, die mir als Mitarbeiter am Reiche Gottes zum Troste geworden sind.

Joshua, who is called Justus, also sends his greeting. These are the only converts from Judaism who have worked with me for the kingdom of God; I have found them a great comfort.

12 Es grüßt euch euer Landsmann Epaphras, Knecht Christi Jesu. In seinem Beten ringt er allezeit für euch, daß ihr vollendet dastehen möget und durchaus das erfüllet, was Gottes Wille ist.

Epaphras, who is one of yourselves, sends you his greeting. He is a servant of Christ Jesus, and is always most earnest in your behalf in his prayers, praying that you may stand firm, with a matured faith and with a sure conviction of all that is in accordance with God’s will.

13 Ich kann es ihm bezeugen, daß er um euch und um die Brüder in Laodizea und um die in Hierapolis sich viele Mühe gibt.

I can bear testimony to the deep interest he takes in you, as well as in the followers at Laodicea and at Hierapolis.

14 Es grüßt euch Lukas, der geliebte Arzt, und Demas.

Luke, our dear doctor, sends you his greeting, and Demas sends his.

15 Grüßt die Brüder in Laodizea, besonders Nymphas und die Gemeinde in seinem Hause.

Give my greeting to the followers at Laodicea, and to Nymphe, and to the church that meets at her house.

16 Sobald dieser Brief bei euch vorgelesen ist, dann sorgt dafür, daß er in der Gemeinde von Laodizea gleichfalls vorgelesen werde und daß ihr den aus Laodizea auch zum Lesen bekommt.

And when this letter has been read to you, see that it is also read before the church at Laodicea, and that you yourselves read the letter which will be forwarded from there.

17 Sagt dem Archippus: Hab acht, daß du das Amt, das du vom Herrn erhalten hast, gut verwaltest.

Give this message to Archippus – “Take care to discharge to the best of your ability the office to which you were appointed in the Master’s cause.”

18 Mein eigenhändiger Gruß: Paulus. Seid meiner Bande eingedenk! Die Gnade sei mit euch!
